"Just shut up and listen!" I scold angrily and she shuts up. "Is that how low you think of me?"
"What do you expect me to think?, You didn't show up at our lunch date, didn't take your calls and now you are back home looking all shabby and missing some clothes, tell me what do you expect me to think?"
"Anything but cheating Sophia, anything but that" I say calmly and she bows down her head in guilt as she plays with her fingers. "All of this has to do with a girl though" I confess and she looks up at me abruptly.
"You mean you were with a girl all day?"
"Yeah"
"Can you please tell me what's going on?"
"Remember that high school reunion party you missed?"
"Yeah, I traveled to Paris for a photoshoot"
"We had a misunderstanding and took a break"
"Yeah we did"
"So I met this girl at the party and we shared a drink in my car, one thing led to the other and we ended up spending the night together"
"As in you two had sex?"
"Yeah, we did have sex"
Amazing sex if I may add. Tss, Sophia will rip my head off if I say that.
"Wow... That's really heartbreaking, ``she says sadly. "So why were you with her today?"
"I bumped into her at the hospital when I went for check up and found out that she is pregnant, for me"
"What?" She asks aghast.
"She is pregnant with my child"
"She told you that?"
"Yeah"
"And you believed her?"
"Why not?, We had unprotected sex"
"Jesus Christ Ace are you that delusional?, She could be lying. What makes you think she is telling the truth?".
"Because she is not the type to lie about such an issue"
"She is probably one of these gold digging bitches who is trying to have a rich guy for herself" She rants and I shake my head.
"Luna is not a gold digger, so stop calling her that"
"So now you are going to side with her?"
"I'm not taking sides Sophia, you are the one who is being unreasonable"
"Really, am I?. I just found out that my fiancé got another girl pregnant and I'm supposed to be cool with it?You cheated on me!"
"I know that okay and I'm sorry, but as it is now we can't reverse what has happened and all I ask is for you to understand me"
"I don't want to, I refuse to understand such a situation. Some random girl cooks up a pregnancy saga just because you both had a one night stand and you believe her, are you this gullible?" She spits about angrily and I just stand there confused and frustrated. This conversation is going nowhere.
I understand her reason for overreacting, like damn!, I will get mad if she gets pregnant for another man. She has every right to feel the way she does right now but I hope she will calm down so we could try to sort things out.
"Babe" I call as I walk close to her.
"Don't touch me" She pushes my hand away as I try to hold her.
"Babe I understand how you feel and I am deeply sorry for hurting you. Trust me this was purely unintentional. Luna and I just met at the party and everything went so fast, besides I was mad at you and needed a distraction, I didn't know it was going to turn out this way. I just want to let you know that nothing will change between us. You are still the only girl I love, the girl I have chosen, my fiancé and we are going to get married, we are going to have that beautiful family we have always talked about. All I want is to be there for the child, nothing else" I say as I kiss her hands but she pulls away and walks over to the bed where she carries her handbag. "Babe come on, don't go. Please"
"I'm going to tell my mother about that Luna girl... wait, could it be Luna Ramora Angelis we are talking about here?"
"Yeah, Kyle's younger sister"
"Karma really is a bitch!" With that, she furiously storms out of my bedroom and I don't try to stop her. I want nothing but a cool head tonight. I take off my shirt and the thought of calling Luna crosses my mind and I don't hesitate to do so , I pick up my phone from the table and dial her number. She picks on the fourth ring.
"Hello Ace" Her soothing voice comes through and for some reason I do not know, my heart skips a beat.
"How do you know it's Ace?"
"Instincts" She says calmly and I feel her smile over the phone.
"Sharp ones you've got there"
"You can say that again"
"So how are you doing?"
"Not bad, just that I keep vomiting but the doctor said it's normal"
"Are you sure you are okay?" I ask, concerned.
"Yeah, I promise I'm fine"
"I'm going to take your word for it. Are you already at Asher's?"
"Yeah, we just had dinner and about to watch a movie now"
"Cool, what kind of movie?" I ask, smiling.
"Well, any movie except horror though" She says with a light giggle.
"Yeah, you should avoid such, I don't want you having nightmares"
"I won't," She says with a light chuckle. I close my eyes in silence and listen to her gentle breath over the phone. I wish I could see her right now like I will cuddle her all night, kiss her tummy and have a hilarious conversation with my baby.
I am already getting so attached to them that I can't help it.
"Are you there?" She asks calmly, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, I am. Where is Asher?"
"He went to get some milk... Oh he's here.... Thanks Ash" The way she calls him "Ash" makes my heart sting a bit. They seem really close.
"Can I talk with him?, Please"
"O...Kay. Here Ash, Ace wants to speak with you" I hear crackling sounds and a few moments later, he speaks.
"Ace" His deep male voice calls.
"Hello Asher"
"It's been quite a while"
Indeed it has been, ever since we graduated from college, we have never really met again. What am I even saying, Asher and I were never close back then.
"Yeah, indeed. So how have you been?" I ask.
"Busy, very busy"
"Same here, very busy"
"I see..."
"Seems like you and Luna are quite close"
"Yes, we are"
"Wow, so I can be rest assured that she is in good hands"
"Absolutely"
Asher and his brief replies.
"Thanks man, I really do appreciate you looking after her"
"You don't have to thank me, Luna is my number one priority and I will risk everything for her safety and well being"
He says firmly and I realize that Asher hasn't changed one bit. He has always been a guy of few words with very deep meanings. Any reasonable human being will understand the statement he just made, he is in love with Luna and he is letting me know that she is his territory, nothing can convince me otherwise.
"Alright then thanks for your time"
"I'm handing over the phone"
The same low crackling sounds come again and then Luna speaks.
"That was one tense dialogue"
"Forget about it. I will pass by at your place tomorrow by midday to check on you, hope you will at home"
"Yes, I will"
"Cool, I will leave you for now, good night Luna"
"Good night Ace" She says and I wait for her to hang up but she doesn't. "Aren't you going to hang up?" She asks with a gentle laugh.
"I want you to hang up"
"Sure?"
"Yeah"
"Good night once more"
"Good night Luna and tell our little angel I send hugs and cuddles and kisses"
She laughs shyly and I can't help but smile.
"I will" Then the line goes dead, then I feel emptiness creep into my soul again. I feel like I'm going to have a very long night and I have got to prepare to face my parents tomorrow.
Sophia must have already spread the good news by now.
