Tony, who stood in a corner, watched as Mr. Singers raised his gun, aimed it at Agatha, and felt a sharp pain in his heart.
Acting on impulse, he dashed forward and positioned himself in front of Agatha, using his body as a shield.
Tony couldn't bring himself to meet Mr. Singers' gaze; the man had let him down too many times. With a heavy heart, Tony spoke softly, "Mr. Singers, please... spare her. If you need to take out your anger on someone, let it be me."
Upon hearing Tony's resolute plea to protect Agatha, Mr. Singers' expression darkened. The two individuals he trusted the most had both turned against him. Veins bulging with rage on his forehead, he asked Tony menacingly, "Are you truly willing to sacrifice yourself for someone who doesn't appreciate you? How long will you continue to offer your love to someone who will never reciprocate it?"
Tony lifted his gaze, his face a canvas of raw emotion. Though deeply wounded, his response was unwavering. "I love her. I can't help it. Whether she reciprocates or not, my love for her is all that matters to me."
His eyes welled up, turning a bloodshot hue as tears brimmed and began their descent. In a tone of resignation, he continued, "Mr. Singers, I know I've let you down. I am undeserving and ungrateful. If it's Agatha's life you seek, you may take mine. I cannot bear to witness her harm."
Mr. Singers' grip on the gun quivered, his fury palpable. His face flushed with anger, his gaze piercing and vengeful.
Through clenched teeth, he spat out, "Tony, you've made your choice."
As he squeezed the trigger, the bullet from the gun streaked towards the ceiling above their heads. His expression was one of profound disappointment as he gazed at them.
In the end, he found himself unable to carry out the act of killing the two individuals he had come to consider his foster children.
"Agatha, you must leave Sunshine City within two hours and never return. The moment you set foot in Sunshine City again, it will spell the end for you," Mr. Singers stated firmly. Turning to Tony, his lips trembling, he continued, "Tony, you are now a man who must forge his own path. You are no longer under my employ. As of today, we sever all ties."
Concealing the gun, Mr. Singers turned away and departed with his associates, his shoulders slumped under the weight of tumultuous emotions and the burning fury within him.
Agatha watched Tony's figure, standing as a shield between her and Mr. Singers' intended bullet. Her eyes betrayed a complex swirl of emotions.
"Tony," she began tentatively, her voice faltering as she reached out to him.
As Tony silently made his way to the door, he paused and cast a pained glance back at Agatha. With a heavy heart, he spoke softly, "Agatha, please don't blame yourself. Even if I had the chance to start over, I would make the same choices again and again. Do you know why?"
Agatha's eyes welled up with tears upon hearing Tony's words, realizing the depth of his unrequited love for her.
"I love you, Agatha. My heart is yours, no matter what. I wish you nothing but a brighter future beyond Sunshine City," Tony confessed before turning away and leaving the room.
Left alone, Agatha crumbled to the floor, overcome with emotion, until a sudden resolve overtook her. She clenched her fists, steadied her trembling body, and reached for her phone to dial a number.
"Hello," a deep voice answered on the other end of the line.
"I'm ready to join you," Agatha declared firmly.
Mr. Singers, deep in thought during the car ride to the hospital where Andrea had been admitted, was unaware of Agatha's call. Upon arriving, he headed straight to Andrea's ward and found her soundly asleep. Deciding to seek answers, he walked over to speak with Doctor Sam.
"Mr. Singers," Doctor Sam said, gesturing forcefully towards a chair.
"Thank you," Mr. Singers replied calmly, taking a seat as Doctor Sam fixed him with a penetrating gaze.
"Is there any discord between you and your wife?" Doctor Sam inquired cautiously.
"No," Mr. Singers shook his head in response.
Doctor Sam's brow furrowed as he pressed on, "Do you not wish to welcome your unborn child?"
A wave of anxiety washed over Mr. Singers at the mention of his first grandchild. Doctor Sam's circling questions had already put him on edge. "Doctor Sam, can you please just tell me what's going on?" Mr. Singers asked, his voice deep and his expression serious.
Doctor Sam sighed deeply before addressing Mr. Singers, "Mr. Singers, if you persist in subjecting your pregnant wife to distress and mistreatment, she may go into premature labor, placing the unborn child at significant risk. While we were able to intervene today, there are no guarantees for the future."
Mr. Singers' expression darkened as he realized the consequences of his neglect. He understood that his failure to protect Andrea from his adversaries had led to this situation.
Determined to rectify his mistakes, he resolved to assign his most trusted aides to ensure Andrea's safety. "Thank you, Doctor Sam," he said earnestly, reaching out his hand for a handshake.
However, Doctor Sam ignored the gesture and simply responded, "I am just fulfilling my duty."
Doctor Sam harbored a strong disdain for those who abused their spouses, as he had witnessed domestic violence firsthand while growing up. His father, an alcoholic, would return home inebriated and unleash his anger on his mother, ultimately leading to her tragic demise.
If he had been able to confront Mr. Singers, he would have assisted Andrea and freed her from his grasp.
Unaware that he had already been branded a wife beater, Mr. Singers withdrew his hand offered for a handshake, sensing Doctor Sam's disapproval.
He walked out of his office and headed back to Andrea's ward, where he found Tony engaging her in conversation, causing Andrea to laugh.
Mr. Singers frowned and squinted as he observed the scene.
