Chapter 39: Meeting A Betrayal

Ch. 39 / 153 Dec 06, 2025

After Mr. Singers finished listening to Tate, he retreated to his room where he swiftly changed into nondescript street clothes and sweatpants. With a facemask obscuring his features, he emerged looking like a different person. Stepping out of his quarters, he spotted Tate awaiting him by the door.

"Stay behind, Tate," Mr. Singers instructed, his tone firm.

"I will, Mr. Singers," Tate responded, his gaze unwavering as he watched Mr. Singers' silhouette disappear.

Making his way to the waiting truck, Mr. Singers settled into the passenger seat beside the driver.

"Mr. Singers, we have a special delivery to make before heading to the next city to shake off our trackers. Here are the details about my partner you'll be taking over from, along with his ID card. The ship's boarding was all under his name, and he will be in hiding until you depart the country. This report contains everything you need to know about my partner," the truck driver explained, handing a stack of leaflets to Mr. Singers.

"Thank you," Mr. Singers acknowledged as he received the leaflets and began skimming through them. The face depicted on the leaflets bore a striking resemblance to the face mask he was wearing.

The truck proceeded towards the neighbouring city, eventually reaching the signpost marking the entrance to the next city.

The truck driver muttered with suspicion, "Mr. Singers, the journey has been unusually smooth so far. It seems like no one is following us."

Mr. Singers furrowed his brow thoughtfully but signalled for the driver to continue. They made their way directly to the seaport.

Upon arrival at the seaport, Mr. Singers disembarked from the truck and confidently strode towards a ship that was anchored nearby.

As he boarded the ship, the captain and a few crew members approached him, offering a respectful greeting, "Welcome aboard, sir."

"Instruct the crew to set sail," Mr. Singers commanded before making his way to his cabin below deck.

The ship's crew sprang into action, swiftly hoisting up the anchor before setting sail with a resounding blast of the horn to signal their departure.

As Mr. Singers entered his private cabin, he flicked on the light only to discover a man seated on the bed, a gun trained on him.

"Well, well, if it isn't Code S, Singers Pedro. You're still up to your old tricks," remarked the man, a mix of admiration and frustration evident in his voice. He had been pursuing Mr. Singers for a decade without success.

Unfazed by the gun pointed at him, Mr. Singers remained composed. Closing the cabin door behind him, he removed his face-mask and calmly took a seat across from the man, pouring himself a glass of whiskey.

"Where is she?" inquired Mr. Singers nonchalantly.

The man with the gun let out a chuckle before replying, "As expected of Code S, your deductive skills are as keen as ever."

"I am no longer Code S Banito," Mr. Singers declared, his expression somber. "I have changed my ways and distanced myself from the organization."

Banito, the man brandishing a gun, responded with a sinister laugh. Just then, Agatha emerged from her hiding spot, a sight that didn't surprise Mr. Singers in the least; he had been anticipating her arrival.

"Code S, you've grown soft, allowing a woman driven by jealousy to roam free. Your biggest mistake was letting such a self-serving lover like her run wild," Banito remarked, shaking his head in disappointment. Despite Mr. Singers' skillful and flawless deception, Agatha's assistance had facilitated his capture.

Banito's disappointment stemmed from Mr. Singers' compassionate nature and his deep concern for humanity. If not for his kind heart, Mr. Singers might still have been aligned with them.

"Banito, I have never regretted any of my decisions. If given another opportunity, I would make the same choices," Mr. Singers responded calmly, his face betraying no emotion.

"Mr. Singers, it's been a few days since I last saw you, and you look more handsome than ever. I... I'm sorry for collaborating with your enemies, but I had no other option. Banito promised me that we could be together forever if you handed over the code they were after," Agatha said nervously.

Mr. Singers gazed at Agatha, who seemed like a girl in love, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of pity. Speaking softly, he revealed, "Agatha, Andrea is my daughter."

Agatha's eyes widened in shock, unable to believe what she had just heard. "Mr. Singers, you must be lying to me," she exclaimed.

Mr. Singers, feeling unmoved by Agatha's disbelief, simply replied, "Have I ever lied to you?"

Agatha took a step back, reeling from the revelation. She realized that Mr. Singers had always been truthful with her, and the weight of her actions began to sink in.

Agatha's understanding dawned as she realized why Mr. Singers, who had faithfully mourned his late wife for over two decades, had chosen to marry Andrea and showered her with love and devotion.

Filled with regret for her impulsive actions and selfish desires to possess Mr. Singers, Agatha wished she could turn back time, but it was too late.

"Code S, I underestimated you. I now see why you left back then, for the sake of your daughter and wife," Banito said with a sigh, his face reflecting a mix of emotions and memories.

Banito recalled the time when he had desperately tried to stop Mr. Singers from leaving, only to watch him depart despite his efforts. It was a decision that haunted him, especially considering Mr. Singers' absence at Rebecca's funeral due to Banito's actions.

"Give me the code," Banito demanded coldly, aiming the gun directly at Mr. Singers' face.

Agatha's eyes widened in shock as she witnessed his unexpected actions; this was not part of the plan. She was supposed to persuade Mr. Singers.

Moving swiftly, she positioned herself between the two men, using her own body as a barrier to shield Mr. Singers from the gun pointed at him. "I will persuade him to hand over the code to you," she declared with determination.

Banito's response was a scoff filled with disdain. He regarded Agatha as a delusional daydreamer unlike any he had encountered before. "Do you truly believe he would heed the words of a traitor like you?" Banito sneered, his skepticism evident in his tone.
