Bound By Blood

Chapter 45

Ch. 45 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The music room felt alive, its walls pulsing faintly as though breathing in time with the charged energy that filled the air. The manor had shifted its shape again, its intent clear—trapping Ella and Sebastian within this space as if orchestrating their confrontation. The dim light from the sconces cast flickering shadows across the polished piano and velvet-draped chairs, turning the room into an intimate yet ominous setting.

Sebastian paced near the piano, his golden eyes clouded with unspoken thoughts. His usually confident demeanor was fractured, the weight of their recent battles and the bond's volatile energy bearing down on him. Ella stood by the tall windows, her fingers gripping the sill as she tried to steady herself, the silence between them crackling like static.

He sat at the piano, his golden hair catching the faint glow of moonlight filtering through the high windows. His head began to bow as his fingers glided over the keys with a grace that belied the tension in his frame.

She stepped inside quietly, her heart thrumming in time with the melody. “Sebastian?”

He looked up sharply, his golden eyes meeting hers with an intensity that made her pause. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then, with a sigh, he turned back to the piano, his fingers faltering before he let them rest on the keys.

“Do you feel it?” Sebastian asked, his voice low but tinged with frustration. He stopped pacing, turning to her with an intensity that made her breath catch. “The manor... it knows. It is pushing us into this—whatever this is.”

Ella turned to face him, her gray eyes meeting his. “It is not just the manor,” she said softly. “It is the bond, Sebastian. It is us.”

His lips twisted into a bitter smile, sharp and self-deprecating. “Charming words, darling, but they do not rewrite the past. They do not erase what I have done. What I have become.”

“Then stop hiding,” she pressed, her tone firm but not unkind. “Tell me the truth. Let me understand.”

Sebastian’s hands tightened on the piano’s edge, his knuckles whitening. The bond flared faintly, carrying a wave of turmoil that made Ella’s breath hitch. Guilt, regret, desire—it was all there, tangled and raw. He stood abruptly, pacing to the other side of the room as if distance could sever the connection between them.

“Do you think I enjoy playing the charming fool?” he asked, his voice low and strained. “That it is some mask I wear for fun? It’s a shield, Ella. Because if I let people see what’s underneath…” He trailed off, running a hand through his hair.

She followed him, closing the distance with slow, deliberate steps. “What is underneath does not scare me, Sebastian,” she said.

He let out a sharp, mirthless laugh, the sound cutting through the charged air. “You do not understand, Ella. If I let my guard down—if I let you in—you will see it. The mess, the mistakes. You will see me.”

Her heart ached at the pain in his voice. She stepped closer, closing the distance between them, and placed a tentative hand on his arm. “I already see you,” she whispered. “And I am still here.”

Sebastian froze, his golden eyes searching hers, the bond between them humming with an intensity that left her breathless. Slowly, his hand covered hers, his grip firm yet trembling.

“You don’t know what you’re asking,” he murmured, his voice barely audible. “You say that now. But what if you knew everything? Every mistake, every selfish choice I have made. Every time I have manipulated someone to get what I wanted. Would you still look at me the way you are now?”

Ella reached for his hand, her fingers brushing his. The bond flared sharply, a pulse of heat and emotion that left her breathless. “Yes,” she whispered. “I would.”

For a moment, he just stared at her, his expression torn between hope and despair. Then, with a soft exhale, he let the tension drain from his shoulders.

“God help me, Ella,” he murmured, his voice breaking slightly. “You deserve so much better than me.”

Something in him broke at her words. Before she could process what was happening, his hands were on her waist, pulling her closer. His lips found hers, the kiss fierce and desperate, a collision of emotions that left no room for hesitation. The bond roared to life, amplifying every sensation until it was almost too much to bear.

Ella melted into him, her hands tangling in his hair as she lost herself in the moment. The world outside the music room faded away, leaving only the two of them and the fire that burned between them. Sebastian’s touch was reverent and possessive all at once, his fingers tracing the curve of her back as if committing her to memory.

But the moment shattered as a sharp burst of pain flared through the bond. Ella gasped, pulling back as the connection surged wildly, its instability sending a shockwave through her body.

“Ella!” Sebastian’s hands steadied her, his expression twisting with concern. “What is happening?”

Before she could answer, the door to the music room creaked open. Vincent stood in the doorway, his dark eyes narrowing as they took in the scene before him. His gaze lingered on Sebastian’s hands on Ella’s waist, his jaw tightening as the bond flared with his emotions—jealousy, anger, and something deeper, more painful.

“Am I interrupting?” Vincent asked, his voice low and dangerous.

Sebastian’s hands fell away from Ella as he turned to face his brother. Sebastian stiffened, his gaze snapping to Vincent. “Vincent, I—”

“You do not need to explain,” Vincent interrupted, his voice flat but edged with barely contained emotion. The bond surged again, feeding Ella a storm of his feelings—betrayal, longing, and a deep ache that cut through her like a blade.

Mariel’s soft laughter echoed through the room, and the air grew heavier. She materialized in the corner, her crimson gown shimmering like molten fire.

“Oh, how delicious,” she purred, her voice dripping with mockery. “So much desire. So much regret. It’s almost too easy.”

“Stay out of this,” Sebastian snapped, his arm tightening protectively around Ella.

Mariel ignored him, her dark eyes glinting as she turned to Vincent. “Why fight it, Vincent? You have wanted her from the moment you met her. Why let your brother claim what could be yours?”

Vincent’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides. “Enough, witch.”

But the witch only smiled, stepping closer to him. “The bond does not lie. She feels your longing, your pain. Why not take what you desire? Why let someone else leave you wanting?”

Ella’s breath hitched as the bond flared painfully, the weight of Vincent’s emotions crashing into her. “Vincent, do not listen to her,” she pleaded, her voice trembling.

Mariel’s laughter echoed through the room, dark and honeyed, as her piercing gaze shifted to Ella. “But do you even know what you are guarding, Vincent? Who she truly is?”

Ella stiffened under Mariel’s scrutiny, the bond flaring uneasily as a wave of curiosity and fear surged through her. “What are you talking about?” she demanded, her voice unsteady but firm.

Mariel’s crimson lips curved into a predatory smile as she approached Ella, her steps unhurried, deliberate. “Your bloodline, little dove, is far from ordinary. Do you truly believe this bond happened by chance? That the shadows, the power, are merely coincidences?”

The weight of Mariel’s words pressing against her chest.

“You are the key,” Mariel said, her voice soft yet charged with menace. “Your blood carries a legacy older than this manor, older than the brothers’ line. Untapped power flows through your veins—power the bond merely awakened.”

Vincent stepped between them, his body tense, his dark eyes blazing with protectiveness.

He looked at her, his dark eyes filled with conflict. For a moment, the room was silent except for the heavy rhythm of their shared breaths. Then Vincent turned to Mariel, his voice cold and resolute.

“Get out.”

Mariel’s smile faded slightly, though her amusement lingered in her eyes. “As you wish, Lord Vincent,” she said, disappearing into the shadows as her laughter echoed like a haunting melody.

The tension in the room was suffocating, the bond humming with unspoken words. Sebastian stepped back, his hand falling away from Ella as he faced Vincent. “Vincent, I—”

“Do not,” Vincent said sharply, his gaze flicking between them before settling on Ella. “We need to talk. All of us. Later.”

He turned and left, his footsteps echoing in the hall. Ella’s heart ached as the bond pulsed faintly, the weight of their shared emotions lingering long after he was gone.

The library was cloaked in darkness, the flickering light from a single candelabra casting long, shifting shadows. Sebastian paced near the heavy wooden table, his golden eyes flicking to Mariel as she lounged in a chair, her crimson gown pooling around her like blood. Her smirk was sharp, predatory, as if she had already won.

“You are hesitating, darling,” she purred, her voice a silken thread of persuasion. “But we both know you’ll agree. Don’t you want to know the truth about yourself? About the secrets buried in your blood?”

Sebastian’s jaw clenched, his hands fisting at his sides. “What I want is irrelevant,” he snapped, though his voice carried no real conviction.

The bond hummed faintly in the back of his mind, warning him, but the allure of her words was too strong. The weight of his own unanswered questions pressed heavily on his chest.

Mariel rose gracefully, her movements like liquid shadow as she approached him.

“Don not lie to me,” she murmured, trailing a finger down his arm. “I can feel your hunger for answers. Help me access the archives, and I will give you what you seek.”

Sebastian’s shoulders sagged, guilt washing over him as he nodded, the decision settling like lead in his stomach.

“Fine,” he said quietly. “But this stays between us.”

The bond surged suddenly, a violent pulse that left him staggering. He gripped the edge of the table, his teeth clenched as a wave of pain rippled through him. Across the manor, Ella gasped, clutching her chest as the bond crackled with instability.

Lucien appeared in the doorway, his sharp gaze narrowing as he took in Sebastian’s pale face. “What have you done?” he asked coldly.

Sebastian couldn’t meet his brother’s eyes. “Nothing yet,” he muttered, the weight of his betrayal growing heavier.

But the bond was already reacting, its fragile threads straining under the pressure of their secrets and turmoil, threatening to shatter them all.
