Bound By Blood

Chapter 35

Ch. 35 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The chill in the air was sharper that morning, the usual gloom of Blackthorn Manor infused with a tangible sense of unease. Ella stood in the library, her arms wrapped around herself as she gazed out at the mist-covered grounds. She hadn’t slept much since the shadows began invading her dreams, their whispers haunting her even in the waking hours.

As she turned away from the window, a shadow unfurled from the corner of the room. It moved with eerie fluidity, its formless shape stretching toward her like ink spilled in water. Her breath caught, her instincts screaming at her to move, but she was rooted in place as the shadow glided closer.

Before she could call out, the shadow struck. Its tendrils wrapped around her arm, cold and suffocating, sinking into her skin with an almost sentient intent. Ella cried out, the bond flaring violently as pain shot through her. The tendrils left behind a dark stain, a twisting pattern that spread across her forearm like an intricate tattoo, pulsing faintly with a life of its own.

Footsteps thundered down the hall, and Adrian burst into the room, his icy-blue eyes blazing as he took in the scene. The shadow recoiled at his presence, slinking back into the corners of the room before vanishing entirely. Adrian crossed the space in an instant, his hands gripping her shoulders as he searched her face.

“What happened?” he demanded, his voice sharp but laced with worry.

Ella clutched her arm, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

“It marked me,” she managed, her voice trembling. “I can feel it… inside me.”

Adrian’s gaze dropped to the dark stain on her arm, his jaw tightening. “Come with me.”

He led her to his chambers, the space dimly lit by the flickering light of a fire. The room smelled faintly of cedar and smoke, its walls lined with shelves of ancient tomes and artifacts. He guided her to sit on the edge of the bed, his expression grim as he knelt in front of her.

Adrian’s gaze pinned her where she stood, the weight of it making the room feel smaller, the air heavier. “I will need to use blood magic,” he said, his tone dark and steady, edged with a quiet warning. “It is the only way to purge the mark before it spreads further.”

Ella’s heart stuttered in her chest. The shadows’ mark had crawled up her arm, a faint stain that throbbed with an ominous heat. She swallowed hard, but her trust in Adrian outweighed the fear.

“What do I need to do?” she asked, her voice quiet but resolute.

His icy-blue eyes softened at her question, the harsh lines of his face easing just slightly.

“Nothing,” he murmured, stepping closer, his voice like a low hum in the stillness. “Just stay still.”

Adrian’s hands moved with deliberate precision as he began rolling up his sleeves, drawing her attention and Ella couldn’t look away. The crisp white fabric sliding back to reveal his forearms—strong, muscular and threaded with faint, dark veins of magic already stirring to life beneath his skin.

There was an intimacy to the moment that wrapped around her like a silk thread, tugging her closer. When he finally touched her—his fingers ghosting along her wrist—it was as though a spark ignited in her veins, surging through the bond like wildfire.

“Breathe,” Adrian said softly, his voice deeper now, controlled but fraying at the edges.

Ella nodded, her breath hitching as his thumb traced the dark stain curling up her forearm. Adrian closed his eyes, his lips moving as he murmured an incantation under his breath. The ancient words vibrated in the air, laced with power. She could feel the energy building in the space between them, his magic coiling around the mark, fighting its dark pull.

A strange heat spread beneath her skin, radiating out from where his fingers lingered. It was foreign and intoxicating, tinged with something that made her pulse quicken. Adrian’s other hand moved, his grip tightening gently around her wrist, and the skin-to-skin contact sent another jolt through the bond.

“The mark is responding to the bond,” he said, his voice strained, as though holding something back. “I have to draw it out. This will require… more.”

Adrian's eyes burned with an intensity that seared Ella's very soul as he prowled around her, the predatory grace of his movements sending a thrill of anticipation skittering down her spine. Every nerve ending in Ella's body seemed to hum in response, her breath coming in ragged gasps as her heart raced in her chest.

The backs of Adrian's fingers grazed the sensitive skin of her neck as he moved past her, a feather-light touch that set her skin alight with fire. She shivered as her core clenched with need. It was a struggle to maintain her composure, but she managed to keep her breathing steady, her gaze locked on the far wall as she fought to master the riot of sensations coursing through her.

Adrian came to a stop behind her, his chest pressed against her back as his arms encircled her waist. His breath was hot against her ear, his voice a low growl that sent a shiver down her spine.

“Trust me,” he murmured, his voice so close it sent a flush crawling across her cheeks.

Slowly, deliberately, Adrian's hands began to move, his fingers splaying wide against her stomach as he pulled her back against him. Her breath hitched in her throat as she felt him, the heat pressing against her lower back, the evidence of his arousal making her pulse race even faster.

While he held Ella tightly to him with one hand, the other slowly but surely started to lift the light hem of her dress, working its way up her leg. His fingers continued to move, tracing a path along the sensitive skin of her inner thigh as he urged her legs wider still.

She could feel the heat building within her, the coiling tension in her lower belly that begged for release. It was maddening, this slow, deliberate torment, and yet she found herself unable—or perhaps unwilling—to resist.

And then he bit.

The moment his fangs pierced her skin, Ella gasped, the shock of it electric. The initial sting faded almost instantly, replaced by a pulsing warmth that spread through her in slow, decadent waves.

Her head tilted back instinctively as the bond flared violently, overwhelming every sense. The feeling of Adrian drinking from her was unlike anything else—sensual and consuming, the draw of her blood amplifying the bond until it became unbearable.

Her fingers curled back into his strong shoulder, clutching the fabric tightly as her breathing grew erratic. Every pull of his mouth on her neck sent fire straight to her core, the sensation building into a deep, aching need that left her trembling. Adrian growled low in his throat, the sound vibrating through her body as if it, too, was tethered to the bond.

“Adrian,” she whimpered, her voice shaking with both pleasure and desperation.

His hand slid down from her stomach, fingertips grazing the curve of her waist before moving lower. Adrian continued to lift the other side of her dress until his heated hand rested on the bare skin of the curve of her waist. The bond roared in approval, the energy between them crackling like lightning as his touch ignited every nerve in her body.

“Ella,” he rasped, her name like a plea and a promise all at once. “You are mine,” Adrrian said roughly, his voice raw and possessive, as his fingers slipped beneath the fabric of her dress.

Deep down beneath.

Ella arched instinctively into him, her gasp breaking into a moan as he stroked her, slow and deliberate, the friction driving her wild. The bond surged, amplifying every sensation tenfold—his touch, the heat pooling in her abdomen, the way his movements affected her.

As Adrian bit her and started to drink again, his fingers continued to move between her legs, stroking and teasing her with a skill that left her trembling. Each brush of his fingers against her wet flesh sent a jolt of pleasure rocketing through her, the tension within her building higher and higher until she was certain she would shatter from the force of it.

He lifted his head slowly, his lips stained crimson, his chest rising and falling with heavy breaths. His icy-blue eyes, darkened now with something primal, locked onto hers.

“Stay with me, little dove,” he growled, his thumb pressing gently where she needed it most. Ella’s head fell back against his shoulder, her body trembling as he worked her higher, the world narrowing to this moment, this connection, and the intoxicating feeling of him.

The tension coiled tightly within her, winding like a spring until it snapped, pleasure crashing over her in a wave so powerful it left her breathless. She cried out softly, Adrian’s name tumbling from her lips as the bond flared one final time, a blinding pulse of energy that seemed to ripple through the room itself.

Adrian held her as Ella’s breathing slowed, his fingers brushing soothing circles along her hip as if to anchor her. He tilted her chin up, his gaze softer now, though still smoldering with something dangerous.

“It is done,” he murmured, his lips ghosting over her jaw. “The mark is gone.”

But Ella barely heard him, her mind still hazy and her body humming with the aftershocks of what had just passed.

Whatever had happened between them had left the bond stronger—more alive—than it had ever been before. And as she looked into Adrian’s dark, unreadable eyes, she knew this was only the beginning.

The tension in the room was suffocating, the energy crackling like a storm held at bay. Before anyone could speak, a sharp knock shattered the silence.

The door opened to reveal Vincent, his dark eyes narrowing as they swept over the room—Ella’s flushed cheeks, the faint, uneven rise of her chest, and Adrian’s disheveled appearance. His expression hardened, the bond flaring sharply as he took it all in.

“What happened?” he demanded, his voice taut, clipped with barely restrained emotion.

Adrian stepped aside, his face a mask of calm. “The shadows marked her. I dealt with it.”

Vincent’s gaze snapped to Ella, his anger flickering, though it wasn’t directed at her. The intensity in his stare softened as he approached, his movements deliberate. “Are you alright?”

Ella nodded, but her voice came out soft, unsteady. “I… I am fine now.”

The bond thrummed, Vincent’s emotions bleeding through to her in a wave—relief first, followed by a deep, protective need that made her throat tighten. His hand brushed against her arm, the touch warm and steady, his thumb lingering just long enough to reassure her.

“You should not have been alone,” he said, his voice low but firm. “From now on, I am staying with you.”

Adrian stiffened, his jaw ticking, but before he could respond, a familiar voice broke the standoff.

“Well, well,” Sebastian drawled from the doorway, leaning casually against the frame as though he hadn’t a care in the world. His golden eyes glinted, playful on the surface, but Ella felt it—a sharp twist of fear and concern masked beneath his teasing smile. “Seems I have missed all the excitement.”

Ella tried for a small smile, but it faltered as the bond betrayed him. Beneath the bravado, Sebastian’s emotions were tangled—fear, frustration, and something deeper that made her chest ache. He held her gaze a second too long, the humor in his expression brittle.

“The shadows are feeding off this,” Vincent said suddenly, his voice slicing through the tension like a blade. His anger simmered just below the surface, evident in the hard set of his jaw. “They are growing stronger. We need to act before they take her again.”

Adrian’s icy gaze flickered to Vincent but didn’t linger. He stepped closer to Ella, the bond pulsing possessively.

“Then we’d better prepare,” Lucien’s voice rang out from the hallway, calm yet unyielding, his silhouette appearing behind Sebastian. “The banishment ritual will not perform itself.”
