Bound By Blood

Chapter 39

Ch. 39 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

Lucien’s voice echoed through the chamber, steady and unyielding as he chanted the incantation from the ancient grimoire. The glowing runes on the floor pulsed erratically, barely holding back the tidal wave of shadows that surged from every corner. The room quaked with energy, and the air grew thick with malice.

The shadows were relentless, coiling and lashing out like living serpents. Their whispers clawed at Ella’s mind, insidious and relentless, but worse than the shadows’ physical assault was the bond. It flared violently, a maelstrom of raw emotions crashing into her with unbearable force.

Adrian’s emotions burned the brightest. His possessive love seared through the bond like a wildfire, intense and consuming. Beneath it churned fear—sharp, raw terror of losing her—that made her chest ache. His determination to protect her was as unyielding as his love, but it came with a suffocating intensity that nearly overwhelmed her.

Vincent’s devotion was quieter but no less powerful. It was a steady, grounding force, a deep well of loyalty that wrapped around her like armor. Yet even he wasn’t free of doubt. A thread of guilt wove through his emotions, a shadow of his past failures that he couldn’t fully silence.

Sebastian was a storm of contradictions. His desire crackled like lightning, fierce and unrestrained, but it was tangled with guilt and fear. Beneath his charming facade was a deep vulnerability, unspoken truths that weighed heavily on him. His emotions left Ella’s chest aching with a painful longing she didn’t fully understand.

Ella staggered under the weight of their emotions, her knees hitting the cold stone floor as the shadows pressed closer. Tendrils of inky darkness reached for her, their whispers weaving promises of power and freedom, laced with lies that gnawed at her resolve.

“Ella!” Lucien’s voice cut through the chaos, sharp and commanding. “Hold the bond steady! They’re feeding on your doubt.”

She clenched her fists, her breaths ragged as she focused on the threads of the bond. It was overwhelming, the intensity threatening to drown her, but she refused to let the shadows win. Grasping the connection, she pulled on the brothers’ determination, their unwavering strength giving her the resolve to push back.

And then the doppelganger appeared.

“You cannot save them, Ella,” it purred. “But I can.”

It stepped out from the flickering shadows, its form identical to Ella’s but infused with an unnatural allure. Its movements were fluid, almost hypnotic, as it approached Adrian, its dark eyes gleaming with malice.

Ella’s breath caught, her heart racing as the bond flared violently, Adrian’s emotions surging with raw intensity. Anger, suspicion, and a flicker of something darker bled through the connection.

The shadow-Ella moved closer to Adrian, its movements fluid and deliberate, like a predator closing in on its prey.

“Adrian,” it murmured, its tone a seductive echo of Ella’s voice. “You do not need her. I can give you everything you have ever wanted. Power. Control. Devotion.”

Adrian’s icy-blue eyes narrowed, his jaw tightening as he stood his ground. The tension in his body was palpable, and Ella felt his possessiveness surge like wildfire. But beneath the storm of emotions, there was a flicker of doubt—small but insidious, something the shadows fed on.

“You are not her,” Adrian said coldly, his voice steady but laced with venom. “And you never will be.”

The doppelganger’s smile didn’t falter; instead, it widened, slow and knowing, as it leaned closer to him.

“But what if I could be better?” it whispered, its tone dark and syrupy. “Could be everything she is too afraid to become?”

Adrian’s fists clenched at his sides, the bond vibrating with the intensity of his turmoil. Ella’s chest ached as she felt his conflict bleed into her—his rage, his protectiveness, and the gnawing fear that the shadow’s words might hold a sliver of truth.

“Adrian!” Ella cried, her voice desperate. She stepped forward, her hands outstretched, but the doppelganger’s form rippled, and Adrian’s gaze passed through her as if she weren’t there. The shadows had cloaked her from his sight, and no matter how hard she tried to reach him, he couldn’t see her.

The shadow-Ella stepped closer, its hand brushing against Adrian’s chest, and the bond flared violently. Ella gasped as a surge of dark energy crashed through her, a twisted mimicry of the connection she shared with him. It felt cold and hollow, but it was enough to sow chaos.

“Adrian,” the shadow murmured, tilting its head. “You have always wanted her to be stronger. To be yours. Completely. I can be that for you.”

Adrian’s breath hitched, his resolve faltering for a moment as the shadow’s words wrapped around him like a vice. The bond burned, Ella’s emotions clashing with his as desperation coursed through her veins.

His gaze flickered, uncertainty flashing across his face. But the shadow pressed closer, its lips brushing against his ear as it whispered something Ella couldn’t hear. His body stiffened, and for a terrifying moment, Ella thought he would give in. But then, his eyes darkened, the icy steel of his will slamming back into place.

“No,” he growled, stepping back from the shadow. His gaze shifted to the real Ella, his expression softening for a moment before hardening with resolve. “You have no power here.”

The doppelganger hissed, its form flickering as Lucien’s incantation grew louder. It turned to Ella, its dark gaze filled with hatred. “You will regret this,” it spat, its form rippling as it dissolved into smoke. “I will tear this bond apart.”

Ella forced herself to her feet, her body trembling but her resolve unshaken. “The bond is stronger than you’ll ever be,” she said, her voice firm.

The doppelganger shrieked, its form dissolving into smoke as Lucien’s magic consumed it. But the shadows weren’t finished. They surged forward, their tendrils wrapping around Ella’s arms and legs, dragging her toward the cavern doorway.
