Wedded To The Ruthless Mafia Boss

She's dead

Ch. 82 / 166 Jan 15, 2026

Darian was striding toward his study when he remembered that Jay was in the living room earlier on. He halted his steps, turning back to the living room. He sat down and called Jay on the phone. Some minutes later, Jay was standing in front of him.

"Why were you in the living room earlier?" He questioned Jay.

"To give a report that we found Nessa, but—" he drawled, his expression turning dark. "We lost her too, she took poison before we got to her, the same polonium poison she used in poisoning Gaius." Jay showed pictures of Nessa's corpse to Darian.

Darian shut his eyes regretfully, he wanted her alive. "Did you find anything on her?" He inquired.

"Yes, we did. She wrote a letter saying she'd rather die than stay alive to face the humiliation. She also confessed to poisoning Gaius' cup, but she didn't state why she did that." Jay told him all that happened when they got to Nessa’s hiding place.

She was still breathing faintly, but they were not able to save her. The poison had spread to her marrow, she couldn't survive it.

"How did she gain a job at the casino?" Darian asked.

"We did a background check on her. She's an orphan and lives alone, there is no information about her that is useful." Jay glanced at the tablet in his hand, he scrolled through and stopped. He looked back at Darian and shook his head. "Last year, there was an advertisement that cleaners were needed at the casino. That was when she applied and got the job, she's not related to anyone in the family, boss."

Darian bobbed his head, understanding Jay's words. He remembered when Gaius talked about it to him. He had mentioned that the women from the family shouldn't do the cleaning jobs and that cleaners should be employed. Though he wasn't the Mafia Lord then, Gaius still sought his permission before Talia posted the adverts.

"What do you think about her, Jay?" Darian asked, staring carefully at Jay. He trusted his instincts to work on things like that.

"She was gullible and fell for the bait just like those men who disrupted the family party. I think they are from the same people. Nessa was easily cajoled because she was gullible, and when she was on the run, she didn't have a choice but to poison herself." Jay said, "she could not have poisoned Gaius for no reason, I am not sure If they knew each other before she started working at the casino. She was paid to kill him, and she fell for their gimmicks."

"What if she wasn't paid to do it?" Darian wiggled his head. He was thinking too hard about what the beef could be all about. "What if she did it on her own accord?"

"I am not sure about that, boss. Nessa doesn't look like someone who would kill someone." Jay countered.

"Why?" Darian scoffed. "Do criminals write it on their foreheads that they are one?"

"No, but I am sure she wouldn't have done it on her own accord. There must be something that went wrong." Jay affirmed. "I am still going to stand on the fact that she was paid to kill Gaius."

"What do we do, we can't establish a fact since she's dead." Darian rubbed his temples in worry.

"Get the men in our custody to confess, I feel you're too lenient with them, boss. You should be harsh towards them, we need them to tell us the people behind all these atrocities. Firstly, it was the attack at the party and now Gaius was poisoned. We are surrounded, boss. We don’t know who they are coming after next."

Jay's words frightened Darian. Who were they coming for next? He was right, he was sure they were already strategizing. In search of other people to use to get to them. They needed to act fast Before they were fully invaded and consumed.

"I thought being nice will make them change their mind, but it's been months and none of them have said a thing to me." Darian sighed wearily. He didn't want those men to return to the dark room. But then, he had to act fast.

"I don't think so, boss." Jay retorted.

"Thank you, Jay. I will call a meeting to address the family members. I want you to keep this evidence, we will be needing them all to prove Lena's innocence."

"Yes, boss,"

Darian felt so relieved Nessa confessed before she died. It gladdened his heart. Now, he would show Judson that his wife was innocent of all the crimes she was accused of. And Talia too, he was disappointed she didn't trust Lena enough to know what she could do.

Now, they will all find out that his wife was innocent. He was hoping to make them apologize for the names they called her and how they all shifted the blame on her. He would make sure they begged for her forgiveness.

"How are things at the office? Have you been able to drop by?" The last time he visited was the day Lena fainted.

Since then, he'd been by her side, completely abandoning his work. But he was sure his assistant was doing great. Bruno was good at what he did, he felt he could rely on him until he was back in the office.

"A new secretary has been employed, you will meet her when you resume back," Jay informed him.

"Yeah, I heard about her. I should visit the office this week." He noted mentally. "What did you do to Nessa's body?" He asked.

"I called the cops after we left her place, they should deal with it. I didn't leave traces of us. You don't have to worry about that." Jay smiled.

Darian trusted him. He tried so hard to recall a question he had in mind to ask Jay, but he couldn't. When he didn't get the question, he asked him something else.

"The one who calls herself my mother, how is she?"

Jay squinted his eyes, "we've bought her a new apartment, I sent the money to the person in her care."

Darian nodded his head, he wasn't sure that he needed her right now. However, he couldn't resist the urge to whisper.

"Keep taking care of her. I have to go now," he got off the couch.

"Yes, boss." Jay stepped back, paving the way for his boss to walk through as headed back to his study.
