"Listen to me if you want to see your wife again. There is a building construction contract you are bidding for. The bidding started two days ago and you are likely to win like you always do. I want you to withdraw from it, step down and stop bidding."
Darian nodded his head. The contract he was bidding was worth millions of dollars, and he had the highest privilege of winning the contract for his company. He was surprised because it wasn't a contract that was related to the mafia. It was about the business world and he needed it to push his company forward.
"Call the manager in charge of the bidding and tell him you are no longer interested. You two should arrange an electronic document to sign. When you do and I get the call that you have, I will release your wife."
"Do not hurt her, I will do all that you want. Can I talk to her? Lena, can you hear me?"
"You will talk to her the next time you see her." The caller ended the call immediately.
Darian hit his fist on the car. He had messed with him too much, just too much. He wasn't weak, he was strong and ferocious, he killed whoever messed with him, but this invincible man sure knew how to hide well and perpetrate his acts. Darian scoffed, he'd get him and kill him with his hands but for now, he had to save his wife.
"The Indian building construction contract we are bidding for, can you withdraw it?" Darian said to Molly over the phone.
Molly yawned softly, "Boss, we can't do that. Is there a reason you want us to do that?" She asked him.
"Do not query me, withdraw from it now and contact the company to send an electronic document to my email within twenty minutes. They work all day, you can still talk to them now." He ended the call. "Let's go, she's not anywhere around here."
"Where is she?" Jay gave the keys to the smaller car to Harrison while he drove the one Darian was in.
"The same man has her in his custody, he wants me to withdraw from the bidding before he lets go of her. I have called Molly to do that, I hope he releases her soon." Darian said wearily. Everything was getting on his nerves and he was getting irritated.
"Boss, you are letting this man have his way with you. He's messing with you, I know you to be ruthless, why not haunt him down and slay him." Jay said angrily.
Lisa glared at him, how was it so easy for him to talk like that?
"He has Lena with him, I don't want him to hurt her," Darian said in a reserved tone. "I will fight back after he releases Lena. No one dares to mess with me and go scot-free." He thought of Lena. The faint sound of her sobs, his heart shredded into bits. He hoped she was fine, he didn't want anything at all to happen to her. He couldn't afford to see her in pain, it would break him.
Molly called later to inform him that she had done all that he asked her to do. He ended the call and tried to reach the strange man who had Lena with him, but the number wasn't going through.
That has been the problem since he ended the call. The number had not been going through, he knew he was doing that to deter Darian from tracking him down.
-
He got a text from a strange number, a location of where to pick Lena up. Darian ordered Jay to turn back the car and head there. Jay drove at full speed and within minutes, they were there.
"Lena!" Darian and Lisa yelled but didn't get a response. They roamed around the park in search of her.
Jay finally called their attention to Lena's unconscious body dumped in one of the swings. Darian ran over to get her, she was still wearing her bikini.
"Lena," he bent to feel her pulse. She was breathing slowly, he heaved her up, carrying her with his two hands. He smiled, he was delighted she was back in his arms. "She's breathing," he walked with heavy steps to get her into the car.
Lena blinked her eyes, "Darian," she smiled, closing those eyes back.
"Lena, are you fine?" He asked her, getting no response anymore. He clutched her hands tightly with his. "Take us home please, I will call the doctor to come and check on her at home." Darian took her hands and kissed them, he mashed a long kiss on her forehead. He was glad he had her back.
The Doctor was already waiting at home when they got back home. Darian carried Lena into the bedroom, and Lisa and the Doctor went in with him.
After the necessary checkups, the Doctor told Darian that she was fine but had to rest for a few hours. He thanked the Doctor and accompanied him out of the room while Lisa stayed back with Lena.
Darian walked back into the room, he sat beside his wife, stroking her hair.
"Darian," Lisa called him.
He squinted his eyes in her direction, "Is there a problem?"
"Are you mad at her?" She asked him.
"I am glad she’s safe," he smiled, still stroking her hair.
"I am glad she's safe too. She wanted to tell you about the anniversary but there was no chance for her to do that. She said you've been too busy for her lately. She kicked against the idea of going to the swimming pool because she didn't want you to get mad at her, but I pressured her into going. If there is someone you should be mad at, then it is me." Lisa poked her chest, lowering her gaze to the tiled bedroom floor. She didn't want to look at Darian at all.
Darian just nodded his head to her words.
"I will be in the guest room, please do let me know if she wakes up," Lisa said, darting out of the room.
Darian sighed, keeping close eyes on Lena. After three hours, she finally woke up. It was midnight and he hadn't slept at all.
"Darian," she touched him, looking into his eyes. "I am sorry, I am so sorry for going out without letting you know, I had no idea something like this would happen." She held onto his hand.
Darian smiled, "Come here," he pulled her to his chest. "I am not mad at you, and this is not your fault." He kissed her forehead before letting her go. "I should apologise to you for putting you in this situation because you are married to me. You'd have been living a free life if you weren't married to me."
"No, I was stubborn. I didn't let you know before leaving. I thought it was safe." Lena said to him.
"It used to be safe before you met me. Now it is dangerous because you are my wife and my enemies want to get to me through you. They know you are my weakness, Lena."
"Darian," she sobbed into his chest.
"Did he hurt you? Did he touch you?" He asked.
"No, he didn't. They didn't do anything to me." She replied to him.
"Did you see their faces? Do you have an idea of where you were carried to?"
"No, Darian. I saw the two men who kidnapped me, but they were the only ones I saw."
"Don't cry, I am here now. I am here for you. I am sorry I couldn't protect you even after I promised to always do." He looked into her eyes. His shoulders sagged and his lips formed a sad thin line. "I feel so incapable," he rubbed his forehead.
"You are capable, Darian. I am fine." She hoisted her head to kiss him. "Thanks for saving me, you always do."
"And I am always the reason you get into trouble. I hope this will stop."
Lena smiled, she rested her head on his chest. "Lisa and Harrison, are they safe?" She asked her husband
"Yes, they are. Lisa told me you wanted to tell me about the anniversary but I was too busy for you." He kissed her cheeks.
"Yes, you were always in your study and didn't want to talk to me." She pouted her lips and looked at him. "I guess you were mad at me."
"I wasn't, and you know that I will always listen to whatever that you have to say. I will always make time to talk to you. Hey," he heaved her up and looked into her eyes. "Don't hide anything from me anymore, tell me everything that I need to know before you do them."
"I will," she smiled, glad her husband was with her.
Darian hugged her dearly, her hair reeked of dust. He chuckled and pulled away from the hug. "You should have your bath now." He said.
"Do I stink?" She sniffed herself. "I guess I should." She pursed her lips, grimacing.
Darian giggled, he hauled her out of bed and carried her into the bathroom. He felt alive again, his whole world was back to him.
