Two weeks later, things had gotten better. Lena's dad was fine and she was back in the house.
After the Doctors discovered that his sickness mildly resurfaced, leading to the cardiac arrest he experienced that caused him to pass out. She had stayed with him at the hospital for one week, never for once leaving his side.
Darian had been an understanding husband, he visited them every day to check on her and made sure they were doing fine. They were discharged from the hospital after the Doctor assured them that Gavin was fine and could go home.
Lisa had been supportive too, she took a break from writing her novels to stay with Lena the whole week. Lena was grateful for the gift of Darian and her best friend in her life, she couldn't ask for more, they were the absolute best.
Darian had worked extremely hard the whole time Lena was at the hospital. He finally got information about the invisible man who was responsible for Lena's abduction and the atrocities that had been committed in the Darian family mafia over the months. He was a powerful man who had the aim to completely ruin the Dawson family due to a long-time grudge that he didn't state. They had tried to hunt him down, but only a little information about his nickname was obtained. His whereabouts were yet to be known, what the grudge was all about was yet to be stated. He was an underground worker and they were still working hard to track him down.
Darian was fatigued when he got back from work that evening; it had been a very stressful day at work. Organising presentations, closing deals and meeting with board members of three different companies. He was so tired and all he had in mind to do that night was to take a cold bath, eat and sleep until the next day.
He stepped into the bedroom to meet roses spread across the entrance. He wondered what was going on as he walked in.
Slamming the door shut, he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, Lena always came up with new ways to surprise him. The last time he checked, it wasn't her birthday or his, so what was she celebrating? Why were there roses spread across the walkway to the bedside? He shook his head and heaved a sigh.
His hand found his tie and he gently pulled it off his neck. He threw the tie on the drawer, striding to the mirror side to check himself out.
"You look hot, always hot." Lena slipped out from behind. He jerked, he didn't notice that she was in the room. He veered around to look at her, smiling as he gawked at her. The short red gown she wore perfectly highlighted her curves, and her hair bounced around her back as she walked close to him. She halted her steps, swivelling around for him to properly assess her. "How do I look?" She asked, smirking at him.
"Er," he scratched his nose, his eyes scrutinising her. "Beautiful!" He moved his hand, "Beautiful, beautiful. What's this all about?"
"Darian, you don't know what this is all about?" She widened her eyes in shock. She knew that he was busy, but she at least expected him to remember that today was their first anniversary.
She had sent him loads of texts and posted their pictures on Instagram with mind-blowing captions. He hadn't checked his phone since he left for work that morning. She wasn't surprised, there were times he went days without handling his phone, he used the business phone more, the one Jay always had with him.
"No, I don't." He leaned on the drawer, folding his arms against his chest, his eyes on her the whole time they talked.
"I think you should employ a phone handler. Someone who will check your phone for calls and messages and tell you about them." She rolled her eyes, bending down to wear her low-heeled stilettos.
"Is there a party in the house? Maybe Tina's birthday?" He arched his eyebrows at her.
She shook her head, "Darian, check your phone for texts." She simply said.
"Okay ma'am," he took out his phone from the pocket of his trousers. He scrolled through his messages and looked back at Lena. A small unbelievable smile twitched on his lips. "A year already?" He asked.
"Yes, happy anniversary to us, Darian. We are a year old today." She smiled heartily.
"Come here, Lena." He spread out his arms. She walked into their embrace and he enveloped her in a mind-blowing hug. "Lena," he heaved a long sigh. "It's been a year with you, time flies." He kissed her forehead and massaged his hand around the area. "I am sorry, I didn't remember. I have been so busy that I don't even remember." He uttered guiltily.
"Don't feel bad about it. I know and that's why I made the preparations with Tina." She looked up at him, kneading her hand on his cheeks. She raised her head to kiss his lips.
"You always do too much, I feel like I am not doing enough. I didn't even remember it was our anniversary."
Lena didn't like the guilt that wrecked his face as he looked at her. She knew that he was busy, and that was why she took everything into her hands.
She had fun putting things together with the help of Tina. She was his wife and she could surprise him if he didn't. She had purposely slept for too long that morning before he left for work. She woke up to no message and that was when it occurred to her that he didn't remember that it was their anniversary.
"You do so much, Darian. You do a lot." She said assuredly. That was the truth. Within the one year of living with him, he had changed in so many ways she never thought he could. He had been more tolerant, just perfect for her and she was glad meeting him had changed him a bit. "Go in there, have a cold bath and come out to the room, I cooked for us."
He nodded, bending his head to kiss her lips. The kiss was getting intense when Lena pulled away, chuckling.
"Why did you do that?" He frowned cutely.
