The Doctor motioned to Darian to hug his wife, she needed him now. He stared at his wife who was reeling from the news of her pregnancy loss. She was going back and forth on the chair. He touched her but she flinched, backing away from him.
"My baby, I lost my baby." She stood up, her hand still around her tummy.
"Lena, you have to take it easy. You can always have other babies that will stay." The Doctor straightened up, walked closer to her, and tapped her shoulders.
Everything in front of her went blank, her senses went numb, and all she saw was her imaginary baby crying to her for help, cussing at her for being such a careless mother.
"My baby," she said again, hurrying out of the office before anyone could attempt to stop her.
Darian ran after her, he caught up with her in the hallway. He pinned her to the wall and held them down.
"Lena," he called, his heart was heavy. Burning with sadness, he would have wanted the baby even though they'd never talked about having kids. He still wanted her kids, but right now there was nothing they could do. "Lena, you will be fine." He said.
"No, Darian." She bobbed her head, "don't lie to me, I won't be fine. My baby just left me."
"Your baby didn't leave you. The Doctor said it was a biochemical pregnancy, it's not your fault." He let go of her when she was struggling so hard to break free from his grip.
"It was because I didn't know. The baby would have survived if I wasn't locked up in that dark room right? My baby would have stayed with me, I would have known I was pregnant and protected my baby."
Darian sighed, he pulled her closer, but she pushed him away.
"Lena," he touched her face, his voice low and full of emotions.
"Don't call my name, Darian." She walked away, "don't come after me too." At that point, she had lost it. The news of her miscarriage shattered her heart, she wasn't sure she could get over it.
Her head was spinning, her eyes blurry as she found her way to the parking lot. She was suffocating, her whole world was crumbling right before her eyes and she couldn't do anything. She thought of the things she'd have done to save her baby and she blamed herself for failing as a mother.
Darian helped her to the car but she wasn't looking at him. Her attention was on her tummy the whole time. He shook his head, he was pained.
"You will be fine," he took her hand and kissed her forehead. "It was our baby too, you don't have to suffer this alone, I will be right here with you, Lena."
She shook her head, jerking away from him like he was a monster.
"Don't touch me," she wagged her fingers in front of him.
She was stressed out from all the torture she'd been subjected to over a crime she didn't commit and now everything was adding up with the stress and the bad news she just heard. Her heart was aching like a dagger was piercing it.
She wanted to escape from this reality of her life. She wished it was a bad dream that she could wake up from, but it wasn't, it was real and she didn't know how to face it.
She couldn't go back home with Darian, she was scared they'd come looking for her and throw her back into the dark room.
She picked up her phone from the dashboard to call Lisa. Pressing the phone to her ear, she waited for her to pick up.
Darian watched her, he wondered what she was doing. It was obvious that she didn't want to talk to him, and that killed him.
"Lisa," Lena let out sniffles, wiping her tears with her thumb. "Are you back in New York?" She asked.
"Hey, Lena! What the hell happened to you? I have been trying to reach you for days but you've been ignoring me. What happened? Did I do something to offend you?" Lisa asked.
Lena forced a smile but it didn't come out, "are you back?" She asked.
"Yes, I am. And that's why I have been calling you for days. We need to see each other, I don't know where you are, I would have come over." Lisa said.
"Don't worry about coming over, send me your new address, and I will come over." Darian's countenance transformed into a big scowl when Lena dropped those words.
"There is no new address, I am still in my parent's old house. Wait, is there a reason you want to cover? Why are you sounding so faint? Are you sick?" Lisa was worried about her best friend.
"I will see you soon, Lisa." Lena ended the call, she turned to Darian and said, "I am not going home with you."
"Why?" He shook his head. She was making him look incompetent, he felt less of a man. "I can take care of you, Lena."
"Darian!" She yelled, the anger and pain she'd been holding in were now evident in her voice. "I don't want to go to your house. Your fucking mafia family members will come looking for me and take me back to that damn room. I am sick, I am losing it. Do you want to watch me until I completely go crazy?" She glared at him, tears dimming her vision, but she was able to catch a glimpse of his sad face.
She didn't care if he was sad, she was miserable, she just lost her baby.
"You are going crazy, Lena. I won't let you go to her and I will stop them from coming after you too." He started the car.
"Darian!" she gripped the door handle. "If you don't stop the car this minute, I will…" She paused mid-sentence and cried harder. "Leave me alone, get the fuck out of my life. You and your family, leave me the fuck alone!"
He didn't say anything to her. He understood she was angry, but he wouldn't let her go to Lisa. He was her husband and he needed to comfort her in times like this.
"Just leave me alone!"
Darian kicked the car again while she was still ranting, he checked for a clear space before zooming out of the parking lot.
He took the route that led to his mansion. He was not going to let her go to Lisa.
He would take care of her.
