A crisp slap rang out.
It was particularly clear in the corridor at night.
Lucas' face went sideways. After a long while, he slowly raised his hand and touched his cheek in disbelief.
"That was quite a slap," Lucas said.
Gloria's hand was shaking, but her eyes looked determined. She felt the pleasure of revenge.
She said, "Mr. Norman, you enjoy rubbing salt on other people's wounds so much. Now you know. It hurts."
After that, she angrily turned around and walked up the stairs, ignoring his reaction.
Lucas was still standing on the stairs. He touched his cheek, which was in pain, and he did not chase after her.
His eyes were flickering with an obscure light. He kept staring at her back till she disappeared.
He walked downstairs, went out of the neighborhood, and got into the sports car parked on the side of the road, his cheeks burning.
He touched his face again and sighed, "It does hurt."
He picked up his phone and called Mike.
"Do you know what time it is now?" Mike complained.
Lucas ignored Mike's question and said, "Someone hit me."
"Which pack is the person from? How many are there? Can you handle them?" Mike said, and Lucas could hear the sound of him getting dressed over the phone.
"Just one," Lucas said.
"One?" Mike raised his phone and frowned.
Mike was a little confused. He went through all the people he could think of, yet he still couldn't think of anyone in Gabbs who could defeat Lucas alone. He hesitated and asked, "Patrick?"
Mike didn't mean to look down on others. Though Lucas was Sea Moon Pack's Beta, he was always good at combat. Lucas' father used to be Sea Moon Pack's Gamma.
"No. I mean I was slapped," Lucas said.
Mike frowned. He didn't think that a man would slap him. He asked, "By whom?"
Mike felt strange.
"The prey. The one I talked to you about. Mike, I am getting more and more interested in this prey. I wish I could leave a scar on her body that she wouldn't allow anyone to touch it." Lucas sounded very excited.
Before he could finish, Mike interrupted him, "Lucas, do you have any idea what you're doing?"
Mike was never this serious. "You're playing with fire!"
"Enough. I'm going to drive. Got to now," Lucas said with a smile.
"Stop what you're doing. Now! Do you hear me?"
Mike was only halfway through his sentence when he heard the busy tone.
He smashed the phone in his hand into the mattress.
Mike had heard the so-called prey too many times from Lucas now, and he found Lucas' behavior strange. He had never seen Lucas acting so weird for a woman.
"Damn it!" Mike cursed fiercely. He glanced at the phone in the mattress, picked it up, and texted Lucas: "Just stop! Don't let yourself become the second me!"
Lucas was waiting at the traffic light. He saw the text and sneered, muttering, "Stop? This hunting game is just getting more fun. Why would I stop?"
As for Mike's last sentence warning him, he didn't take it seriously at all.
Lucas pressed a button on the car, and the top cover of his sports car was lifted. The car was driving at a high speed, and the wind was whistling in his face. On the empty road at such a late night, Lucas shouted against the wind. The wind messed up his hair.
The next day, Gloria saw Lucas again at the door of her dormitory.
"Didn't I tell you not to come again? We shouldn't see each other again."
Money issues had been bothering Gloria recently. She thought, 'What's wrong with me? Why did I drive someone so rich away? He was probably my only source of money!'
She felt that the wound on her forehead was starting to burn again.
"I'm hungry," Lucas said in a magnetic voice. He took out a check for 100 thousand dollars to Gloria and asked in a tempting tone, "Are you really going to turn me down that thoroughly? Does self-esteem mean that much to you? You need a million dollars, right? A million dollars means a lot to you, right? Are you sure you won't think about it?"
Gloria began to waver.
"So, what if I want to touch your wound? You can always dodge. If you can manage to dodge once, I promise that I won't touch it again," Lucas said.
It was a deal, and what Lucas wanted was the pleasure of hunting.
And what Gloria wanted was money.
"You know, whether you say yes or not, I can always get my way. Even if I don't come here, I can go and find you at Fittro Club," he said.
Although Gloria was annoyed, she knew that Lucas was right.
She lowered her head, and Lucas did not urge her.
After a while, she raised her head and said, "I have one more request. You can't use force on me. Otherwise, I can't dodge you. Mr. Norman, you know this very well."
"Sure," Lucas agreed readily.
He was a werewolf, so in terms of speed, he was still way ahead of her.
Gloria looked suspiciously at Lucas in front of her. He agreed so quickly, which made her feel that something was off. However, after carefully thinking about their conversation just now, she couldn't find anything wrong with it.
"I'm hungry," Lucas said.
"Come in." Gloria opened the door to the dormitory and went to the kitchen as usual.
Lucas sat in his usual seat and looked at the woman in the kitchen. He was getting better at this routine.
After eating, he took out a handkerchief and wiped the corner of his mouth. His movements were so elegant. There was not much communication between them during that time. Yet everything was strangely harmonious, as if it had happened a million times before.
However, right now, Gloria turned vigilant.
She did not speak. Her eyes were fixed on Lucas, and she kept her distance from him.
