Gloria went back to the Public Relations Department lounge and sat inside. She was the only one there. Time ticked by, and soon, it was time to go home.
Same as yesterday, she received no work at all.
Gloria was not stupid. She had been out of work for the last month, sitting on her hands. She vaguely had a theory about the reason why.
She left Fittro Club and went back to her dorm.
She walked up the stairs, and just like yesterday, she saw Lucas at her door.
This time, Gloria did not ask anything. She just took out her key in front of Lucas and opened the door. Then she said, "Come in, Mr. Lucas. I'll make you something to eat."
Lucas looked at Gloria's back as she cooked in the kitchen in an orderly manner. The corners of his mouth curled up since he was in a good mood.
He ate up as usual. When he put down his knife and fork, there was a check for 20 thousand dollars at the corner of the table.
"I guess the food I make is more expensive and luxurious than that of a Michelin restaurant. Can you tell me why, Mr. Lucas?" Gloria asked again.
"Why what?" Lucas asked.
"Why are you willing to pay so much money every day to wait for me to come back at night just for the food I make? I know very well that the food is not worth this much. And don't tell me that you think it is worth it. I want to know why you think it is worth it. Is it the food I made or something else?"
Lucas was getting more amazed. He thought that Gloria was an interesting woman who loved money. To his surprise, she was also smart and clear-minded.
"The scar on your forehead is an eyesore, and I happen to be a person who loves challenges." Lucas was straightforward. "Miss Carter, let me treat the wound on your forehead. OK?"
As he spoke, he was about to stroke Gloria's forehead with his slender fingers, but she frowned and flinched.
"It's late. Please leave, Mr. Lucas," Gloria said.
Lucas did not say a word. He stood up and walked toward the door. Meanwhile, Gloria was very cautious. She sent Lucas to the door while keeping a certain distance from him, the dangerous man.
"Goodbye, Mr. Lucas." Before she could finish speaking, he pulled her again. She had a hunch at once and reached out to block her forehead, yet she was still too late. Lucas pecked at her forehead with his warm lips and retreated.
Gloria was annoyed because she was trying her best to stay out of his reach this time.
She shouted, "Do you find it amusing?"
Anger surged in her eyes. She thought, 'Why is he going against my will over and over again?'
"You can tell me not to come tomorrow. Miss Carter, I promise you, if you say that to me, I will do as I'm told," Lucas said nonchalantly.
Gloria clenched her hands next to her thighs tightly.
She needed money! She needed money badly.
So she remained silent with a sullen face.
Lucas curled his lips. He knew her weakness, and he had plenty of money.
"Well then, Miss Carter, since you won't say anything, then I assume that I'm welcome here for food," Lucas smiled. "If so, Miss Carter, I can't guarantee that I will be able to resist the urge to kiss your wound when I come."
Gloria lowered her head, looking gloomy. How she wished she could kick Lucas out right now for good.
Yet now, he was her only source of money.
"Mr. Lucas, you just love to rub salt in others' wounds, don't you?" Gloria asked.
"Miss Carter, you are wrong. I am treating your wound. Any discomfort during the process is only temporary. By the time the treatment is over, and after your wound scabs, everything will be fine," said Lucas.
Gloria thought, 'I can't believe you make rubbing salt in others' wounds sound so righteous.
How shameless are you?
But my hands are tied because I owe Patrick a million dollars.'
Lucas saw every bit of Gloria's struggle and reluctance. Suddenly, Gloria raised her head and said, "Mr. Lucas, I need a million dollars."
Lucas' expression did not change. While looking at Gloria, he suddenly felt bored. He figured that it was time to put an end to this hunting game.
Gloria loved money. It was precisely the reason why he could crack her. In such a way, he was able to approach her again and again, to hunt her, his prey, little by little.
In this game of hunting, money was bait, and she was the prey.
The fun of hunting lay in the prey's struggle and the process of it.
However, the moment Gloria asked him for money, it killed all the fun. Suddenly, the hunt became nothing but vulgar.
"It's late. I'll get going," Lucas patted his suit pants and said casually.
Gloria pursed her lips and said, "I'll see you off."
"No need." Lucas' cold voice made her feel a bit awkward.
His distancing attitude was evident.
"I insist." Gloria closed the door. This time, she was going to send him downstairs. He had been here several times, but she had only sent him to the door of the dormitory. Today, she would make an exception.
"Miss Carter," Lucas suddenly smiled, and there was a trace of impatience in his eyes.
He said, "I do have a million dollars, but I don't want to give it to you. Because just now, your food was no longer worth 100 thousand dollars."
A million dollars was nothing to Lucas.
However, Gloria asked him for money, which seemed too cheap for Lucas, and he lost all interest in her.
When he lost interest in a woman, he didn't bother to pretend anymore. He showed his cold side, which was his true color.
Besides, he never respected Gloria, so the difference in his attitude was clear.
If it were a woman like Lillian, she would feel very embarrassed and sad.
However, Gloria was not Lillian, and she was not like any woman Lucas had encountered.
