Trapped by Him

Chapter 78

Ch. 76 / 398 Feb 22, 2026

Lucas saw how Gloria struggled deep down, and a smile appeared on his lips.

He thought, 'You are indeed a greedy woman.'

Lucas sighed silently.

He figured that Gloria's greedy nature could do him a lot of good since he was loaded.

After a while, Gloria slowly opened her mouth and asked, "What can I do for you in exchange for your tip?"

A trace of surprise flashed across Lucas' face. To his surprise, Gloria did not just take the money away. She wanted to do something in exchange for the money.

Lucas knew women in clubs. He knew those call girls even better.

Most of them hoped that they could gain things without having to do anything, or they would not choose such a career in the first place.

"Nothing. You just need to sit beside me and let me take you back to the dormitory," Lucas said affectionately. He figured that such sweet talk would move any woman.

However, he found no change in Gloria's expression. She just thought silently for a while.

She said, "Then let me make you a cup of coffee."

Her words shocked Lucas again, and at the same time, he grew more curious about her. He had the urge to know what kind of a woman Gloria was and why she was like this.

"I'm sorry. I only have some coffee beans in my dorm. I don't have anything better to offer you," Gloria said.

Lucas suddenly realized something and was slightly stunned. He thought, 'I get it now. She stood alone under the lamppost for such a long time, because she was thinking about what she could give me in return for my tip.'

Suddenly, Lucas felt the wad of money in his palm burning.

He glanced at the wad of money out of the corner of his eye. It was nothing to him, yet the woman opposite him pondered for a long time, exchanging the best thing she had for the money in his hand.

Lucas stared at Gloria under the street lamp for a long time. Then he slowly said, "OK."

He opened the car door himself, which was a rare thing, and got out. He went around the passenger seat and opened the door for her.

"Where is your dormitory?"

"Drive on. I'll show you the way. Drive slowly, Sir."

Soon after, Lucas' car reached her dormitory, an old apartment building.

"You live here?" Lucas got out of the car and looked at the apartment building. He frowned and asked.

"Yes. It's quite nice here." She was content to have a roof over her head.

"I thought Fittro Club would provide its employees with better accommodation." Lucas shrugged.

"Most of the employees do not live here," Gloria said calmly.

The call girls in the Public Relations Department earned a lot, and they preferred to live in the busy district, which was more convenient for them to go out and shop. Yet Gloria was different from them. She needed to save money, and she didn't want to waste her money on renting an expensive apartment.

They climbed upstairs, and she took out her key, which was brand new. The staff of the Administrative Department gave it to her a few days ago.

The door opened. The somewhat aged door gave a slight creak. Gloria said, "Sir, please come in."

Gloria did not talk much, because she found her voice unpleasant to anyone's ears.

"Have a seat." She put down the things in her hands and turned to the kitchen.

Lucas found a spot where he could see the kitchen and sat down.

Gloria wasn't moving fast. She boiled some water, pulled out a can of coffee beans slowly, and put them into a manual grinder.

She tried to shake the handle of the grinder. After a while, she opened the grinder and poured the coffee powder into the French press. Then she poured boiling water into it too.

Soon, Lucas smelt the coffee wafting from the kitchen, and he could tell that it was a cheap type of bean.

Shortly after, Gloria came out with a tray, on which was a white porcelain cup with coffee, and a white plate with several biscuits on it.

"Sir, here is your coffee and biscuits."

"You won't eat any?"

Gloria shook her head with a smile and wiped her hands dry. She replied, "I ate at work already."

Lucas took a sip of coffee and looked at her. "You put your heart in while making the coffee."

"I always wanted to learn how to make coffee so that I could make it for that person, yet I never had the chance. Sir, you are the first person to taste my coffee," Gloria said.

"You keep calling me Sir. Do you know my name?" Lucas suddenly asked.

Gloria shook her head in silence.

To her, the name of her customer was not important. Yet she did not say it out loud. Nevertheless, Lucas still got what she was thinking from her silence.

Lucas took out his wallet, grabbed a stack of money, and said, "Let's make a deal." Then he placed the money in front of Gloria.

He said, "Remember my name. My name is Lucas. Lucas Norman. The money here is what you'll get for remembering my name."

Gawking at the stack of money in front of her, Gloria was dumbfounded.

She looked up at the man in front of her and asked, "All I have to do is remember your name?"

Gloria did not get it. There were some things that she could not understand, but if Christine were here, she would know for sure.

Lucas chuckled and said, "You're right."

For Lucas, making her remember his name was just the first step in his hunt.

"It's getting late. I've got to go." Lucas stood up.

"Mr. Norman, let me send you off." Before Gloria finished speaking, Lucas bent down and kissed her on the forehead. She immediately pushed him away, stretched out her hand to cover the place he just kissed, and said, "Please don't do this."

She thought, 'I just had the stitches taken out of that new wound.

More importantly, maybe I'll let him kiss me on the lips, but he can never kiss this place!'

Gloria was trembling all over.

Instead of answering her, Lucas asked rhetorically while narrowing his eyes, "Why not?"
