Ellison gave a mocking smile and thought, 'Patrick, it turns out you can't say no to the Moon Goddess' arrangement either. If you had known this was going to happen, would you have been so cruel?'
Ellison was very smart. He had figured out from Leonard's behavior that Patrick had changed his attitude toward Gloria.
He muttered to himself, "I was wrong to think Gabrielle was Patrick's soft spot. Behind her angelic face, she was actually a vicious woman. No wonder Patrick didn't do anything about Gabrielle's terrible death." His eyes sparkled with excitement, and he was thrilled because of the upcoming challenge.
Ellison dialed a number at once. With a nasty smile on his face, he said to Damon, "I got it. Patrick has already accepted Gloria as his mate."
As soon as he finished speaking, he heard the sound of something falling to the ground through the phone.
Damon, who was on the other end of the line, lost his grip on his phone and it fell to the ground.
After a while, he trembled, bent down to pick up his phone, and said, "Leonard is looking into what happened back then."
Damon said with great certainty.
"You're right," Ellison gloated. "I don't know if he can get the truth. Yet now that he's looking into it, I guess he's bound to find out what you did in the last three years. You'd better clean up your mess, Damon."
After that, he hung up the phone.
Damon clenched his fists and thought, 'If Leonard is looking into things that happened during those three years, then he's going to find out what happened in the werewolf prison.'
Then, Damon hastily changed his clothes and walked out. He knew that he had to race with time now.
The only thing he counted on was Patrick's trust in him, since he was the Black Thorn Pack's Beta. Yet once the trust was gone, he dared not imagine what would happen.
In the dark study, Patrick looked gravely at the report in front of him.
"This is what you've got?" The few pieces of paper in Patrick's hand did not help Gloria at all. On the contrary, they confirmed her evil deeds.
Leonard nodded. "Alpha Patrick, there is indeed no secret behind what happened three years ago. Now, Miss Carter is the only one who knows the truth. So, I could only check with Gabrielle's classmates who were close to her. Those three in the file were Gabrielle's roommates. As they recalled, Gabrielle was very happy that day, and she told them that Miss Carter was going to take her to have fun that evening. All three of them were sure they had heard Gabrielle say so.
"Other details are recorded on the file as well," Leonard said. "Alpha Patrick, there's no unturned stone behind what happened three years ago."
Patrick was sitting behind the desk. He kept tapping his slender forefinger on the desk, looking at the papers while pondering over something.
"Leonard," Patrick suddenly said in a low voice. "Go to the werewolf prison and do more digging."
"Yes, Alpha Patrick." Leonard wanted to refuse at first, but in the end, he didn't. He couldn't afford to go against Patrick's orders again.
Leonard thought expressionlessly, 'If Alpha Patrick is so concerned about what happened three years ago, then I might as well look into it. I don't believe Gloria is innocent, not even just for a second. Gabrielle was such a nice, tender, and kind person. Why would she lie?'
Leonard turned around and left the study with anger surging from deep down. He thought, 'Alpha Patrick must be suspicious of Gabrielle. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked me to dig into the werewolf prison again. What a hateful woman Gloria is! After I get to the bottom of this, Alpha Patrick can never take her side.'
In the study, Patrick looked through the file again with a complicated expression on his face.
In fact, when he got the report and saw the results, he had to admit that he was relieved. He felt better knowing that he hadn't wronged Gloria. Yet he couldn't ignore what was fishy with the whole thing.
Leonard's findings might be right, but what if the whole thing was wrong in the first place?
"Hank, you saw what happened. I'm sure you must have noticed something wrong, right?" Patrick's hawk-like eyes fell on Hank's face.
As he heard Patrick's question, Hank's pupils suddenly contracted. After a while, Hank nodded helplessly. "Yes, I did."
He realized that Patrick was suggesting that Leonard had an ulterior motive from the beginning, which was why there was something wrong with this report.
"Alpha Patrick, Leonard has been with you as a pack guard since he was a kid. He may have selfish motives, but he will never betray you," Hank tried to intercede for Leonard.
Before Hank finished speaking, Patrick raised his hand to stop him. "I don't think he made a fake report. However, Leonard might be taken advantage of for his prejudice. He will not lie about the report, but I remain suspicious of whether the report is true or not."
Patrick pushed the report toward Hank. "Listen. I want you to find out what really happened three years ago. Don't tell anyone about it, including Leonard."
Patrick secretly hoped that Leonard wasn't being used and that the report was true. In that case, he wasn't wrong about Gloria three years ago.
Yet Gloria assured him with her character that she loathed such evil deeds, and she would never do something so nasty.
Patrick could no longer remain as indifferent as he was three years ago. He wanted the truth. He was the one who shattered her dignity, and he had to make things right for her.
Suddenly, the phone on the desk rang.
Patrick pressed the answer button. After hearing what the other said, he pulled a long face.
Maybe he felt a bit guilty just now. However, at this moment, he felt nothing but furious.
"Alpha Patrick, what happened?" Hank became serious since he rarely saw Patrick like this.
"Gloria has never stopped wanting to run away from me. What a nice surprise," Patrick said through clenched teeth word by word, burning with rage.
Patrick's deterrent aura made Hank shiver. Before Hank could speak, Patrick had already rushed out like a gust of wind.
Hank hurried out after him, but Patrick was so fast that it took all he could to keep up.
"Alpha Patrick, maybe it's just a misunderstanding." Hank caught up with Patrick and saw the murderous look on Patrick's face. Now he knew how much Patrick cared about Gloria, and he was worried that Patrick might do something he regretted in the heat of the moment.
Unfortunately, Patrick's anger got the best of him, and he ignored Hank completely.
