Unfortunately, people around him also joined the woman and talked about the terrible scars on Garrett's face.
Garrett didn't care about this talk at all and didn't plan to defend himself, but his silence made Lily think he felt bad about himself, so she decided to help.
Lily couldn't help but feel anger at how they were talking about him.
Lily had the urge to dig her claws into the woman and throw her around, but it was against the rules to hurt a human in any way, regardless of how much they deserved it. She made a beeline for the crowd and immediately hid Garrett behind her, protecting him like a hen would her chick.
Lily said loudly, "Watch your mouth! Your kid was the one who accidentally bumped into my man and even got cake all over his suit because of it! Why are you falsely accusing him of hurting your son?"
"Who the hell are you? Mind your business. You were not there to witness what took place. Do you not see how menacing this man is? Someone like you could never be with him. He must be abusing you. It is abundantly clear that he is up to no good. I have no doubt in my mind that he intended to abduct my child," the woman responded, indignantly. The people in the area whispered amongst themselves and avoided making eye contact with them.
"Yes. What if he scared the kid with this ugly face?"
"Keep your voice down. What if he's a pervert? I've seen a lot of news on TV that some people feel inferior because of their physical defects and eventually become cold-blooded murderers to take revenge on the whole society."
"Exactly! That's what I'm saying. He is suspicious!"
'Have they lost their minds? This isn't a TV show. Is this another attempt to destroy his image?" Lily was fuming with rage.
'Let me just maul them, Lily. We can show them true monsters,' Dina growled.
Listening to these harsh words, Lily felt heartbroken, even though they were not insulting her. They were talking about her fiance, her future mate, and Lily would have none of it.
Even if he was disfigured, he should not be harassed like this. It was cruel and callous. He was a victim of a fire; therefore, they should be ashamed of themselves for treating a burn victim in such a manner!
Lily, like a small beast, clenched her fists tightly as she gathered her strength in preparation for the right moment to strike.
Lily suddenly yelled, "Shut up!"
Everyone was compelled to be quiet as a result of her scream and the energy that was behind it. Lily resisted the urge to bare her fangs at them and instead clenched her fists even more tightly, to the point where her nails were digging into the flesh of her palms. She directed her gaze squarely at the mother of the child. Her stare was cold and made the mother back away from Lily a little.
"Verbal accusations are not enough to prove that he did anything wrong. Innocent until proven guilty, right? Let's go look at security footage," Lily suggested, while pointing to the surveillance camera that was located in front of the cake shop.
The kid's mother started to speak, but Lily interjected. "If your child was the one who collided with my man, you will be responsible for paying for his suit, or I will report the incident to the authorities and file charges against you for defamation and harassment. And if any of you want to continue gossiping about him, I'll add you all to the lawsuit!"
Everyone stared at Lily in shock and didn't dare to say anything else. "That's what I thought," Lily said. She took Garrett's hand and then led the way back into the cake shop after pausing for a moment to see if anyone else had anything else they wanted to say.
"Please allow us to view your security footage," Lily said to the cashier.
"Um, I'm not sure if I can do that. My manager doesn't allow me to do that, ma'am," the cashier said.
"Then, go get your manager, please. I am not going to stand for these people making false accusations against my fiance," Lily demanded.
The cashier nodded and went to the back room. Garrett didn't say a word, but he had a half-smile on his face. He had never protected anyone like this in his life. Garrett had no idea that having someone protect him could be such a pleasant experience.
His eyes softened, and he cast several thoughtful glances at their joined hands. Lily's hand was delicate, soft, warm, and even sweaty at the moment; her back was straight, like a pine tree that was never going to bend.
Garrett could tell that she was scared, too, but she was going to see this through. Her belief that those people were wrong outweighed her fear.
'Why would anyone believe that she couldn't be a Luna?' Garrett thought.
'Idiots. Idiots believe that. She is smart, doesn't stand for injustice, and is brave. She's perfect,' Berric, Garrett's wolf, remarked.
Garrett's secretary was riding with Garrett and saw everything. It was clear that the boy caused the collision. Most of the time, Garrett just threw money at annoying people. He was walking over to write out a check, but Garrett spoke to him through their pack bond.
'Stay where you are. My little she-wolf has it handled,' he told him. Garrett's secretary frowned because this could be a PR disaster if it wasn't contained, especially since there was a lot of attention on him now.
"Why is he letting her handle this? What if the video is at the wrong angle?" the secretary asked Adam. "This is not how we usually handle these situations."
"I saw everything. The child wasn't paying attention, but that's not the point," Adam replied. "Our Alpha likes to be fussed over, so we will let this play out. Keep an eye on that woman. I am sure she will try to flee once the truth is revealed."
