The Lies That Binds

Chapter 161

Ch. 161 / 200 Jun 22, 2025

The room was silent except for the soft hum of the computer. Noah's fingers danced over the keyboard, his expression grim as he pieced together the final details of Anton's plan. Gabriel, still pale but upright, stood by the window, his gaze fixed on the horizon. Jasper leaned against the wall, arms crossed, the tension in his posture mirroring the weight of what they were about to face. Piper sat at the center of the room, a blueprint of the warehouse Anton had chosen for his final stand spread out before her.

“This is it,” Noah said finally, his voice cutting through the heavy air. “Anton’s planning to detonate explosives at his supply depots across the city. He wants chaos, and he’s prepared to burn everything to the ground if it means taking us down with him.”

Piper’s stomach churned. “And the warehouse?”

Noah pointed to a red-marked section of the map. “That’s his command center. He’ll be there, coordinating everything.”

Gabriel pushed off the wall, his voice low but resolute. “We hit him there, take him down before he has a chance to execute his plan.”

“Easier said than done,” Jasper muttered, his arms tightening across his chest. “He’ll be expecting us. This isn’t just about brute force. We need to outthink him.”

Piper nodded, her eyes narrowing as she studied the map. “We’ll divide into two teams. One to handle the explosives, the other to confront Anton. If we can neutralize the bombs, we’ll cut off his leverage and force him to face us.”

Noah exchanged a glance with Jasper and Gabriel before speaking. “I’ll take the explosives. If anyone can disarm them, it’s me.”

“I’m going with you,” Jasper said firmly.

Piper looked at Gabriel, her heart twisting at the sight of him standing despite the pain he must still be feeling. “You’re with me,” she said.

Gabriel’s lips quivered into a faint smile. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Piper took a deep breath, her resolve hardening. “This ends tonight. No matter what it takes, we stop Anton for good.”

The night was thick with tension as the group approached the warehouse. Shadows clung to the edges of the building, and the faint sound of machinery hummed in the background. Piper’s heartbeat thundered in her ears, but her grip on her weapon was steady.

Noah and Jasper peeled off, disappearing into the darkness toward the supply depots. Piper and Gabriel moved toward the main entrance, their steps silent but purposeful.

Inside, the warehouse was a maze of metal and shadows. Anton’s voice echoed through the space, barking orders to his men. Piper’s pulse quickened as she caught sight of him standing on a raised platform, his sharp suit a stark contrast to the chaos around him.

“Welcome,” Anton called, his voice dripping with mockery. “I was wondering when you’d show up.”

Piper stepped into the light, her gun raised. “It’s over, Anton. Surrender now, and no one else has to get hurt.”

Anton laughed, a cold and hollow sound. “Do you really think you’re in control here, Piper? This game has always been mine to play.”

Gabriel moved beside her, his weapon trained on Anton. “You’ve lost, Anton. Your plan is falling apart.”

Anton’s gaze shifted to Gabriel, his smile sharpening. “Ah, the loyal soldier. Tell me, Gabriel, how does it feel to always be one step behind?”

Piper’s finger twitched on the trigger, her anger bubbling to the surface. “Enough. This ends now.”

Before Anton could respond, the sound of gunfire erupted from deeper within the warehouse. Piper’s heart lurched as she realized the fight had begun.

“Go!” Gabriel shouted, pulling her behind a stack of crates as bullets ricocheted off the metal.

Piper fired back, her movements precise as she took out one of Anton’s guards. Gabriel covered her, his aim steady despite his injury.

The sound of an explosion rocked the building, the shockwave sending debris raining from the ceiling. Piper’s thoughts immediately went to Noah and Jasper, her chest tightening with worry.

“We need to move,” Gabriel said, his voice urgent.

Piper nodded, her focus shifting back to Anton. He was retreating toward a hidden stairwell, his guards forming a shield around him.

“Not this time,” she muttered, breaking cover and charging forward.

Gabriel was right behind her, their combined assault cutting through the guards. Piper reached the stairwell just as Anton disappeared inside, her determination driving her forward.

The stairwell led to a narrow corridor lined with flickering lights. Piper could hear Anton’s footsteps echoing ahead, his movements quick and deliberate.

“Anton!” she called, her voice cutting through the stillness.

He didn’t answer, but the sound of a door slamming told her she was close. She pushed forward, her breath ragged as she burst into a small control room. Anton stood at the far end, a detonator clutched in his hand.

“Stay back,” he warned, his voice sharp. “One move, and I’ll take us all out.”

Piper froze, her gun trained on him. “You don’t have to do this.”

Anton’s laugh was bitter. “Spare me the platitudes, Piper. This is who I am. This is who we both are.”

“No,” she said firmly. “This is who you chose to be. But it doesn’t have to end this way.”

Anton’s grip on the detonator tightened, his expression twisting with fury. “You don’t understand. You’ve never understood.”

Gabriel entered the room, his gun raised. “Drop it, Anton. This is over.”

Anton’s gaze flicked between them, his eyes calculating. For a moment, Piper thought he might surrender. But then his lips curled into a cruel smile.

“You’ll have to kill me first,” he said.

Piper’s heart pounded as she took a step forward. “Don’t make me do this.”

Anton sneered. “You don’t have the guts.”

The next seconds blurred into chaos. Anton raised the detonator, his thumb hovering over the button. Gabriel fired, the shot hitting Anton’s shoulder and sending the device flying. Piper lunged, grabbing the detonator and smashing it against the floor.

Anton screamed in rage, lunging at her, but Gabriel intercepted him, the two men grappling fiercely. Piper scrambled to her feet, her gun trained on Anton as he threw Gabriel against the wall.

“Enough!” she shouted, her voice echoing in the small space.

Anton froze, his chest heaving as he glared at her. Blood dripped from his shoulder, his face a mask of fury and defeat.

“It’s over,” Piper said, her voice steady despite the chaos raging inside her.

For a moment, Anton didn’t move. Then, slowly, he raised his hands in surrender.

The warehouse was eerily quiet as Piper and Gabriel emerged, Anton in tow. Jasper and Noah met them at the entrance, their faces streaked with soot but their expressions triumphant.

“The bombs?” Piper asked, her voice trembling.

“Disarmed,” Noah said, his smile faint but genuine.

Jasper’s gaze shifted to Anton, his eyes darkening. “What about him?”

“He’s done,” Gabriel said, his grip tightening on Anton’s arm. “He won’t hurt anyone else.”

As the authorities arrived, the group watched in silence as Anton was taken away. Piper felt a wave of relief, but it was quickly overshadowed by the weight of everything they’d lost—and everything they’d risked to get here.
