The Lies That Binds

Chapter 188

Ch. 188 / 200 Jun 22, 2025

The Singapore sunrise painted the sky in shades of amber and rose as their private jet touched down. Piper gazed through the window, James sleeping peacefully in his carrier beside her. Two months had passed since the confrontation with Victor, since the wedding, since the dinner with her mother that had changed everything.

"Home sweet home," Gabriel said softly, squeezing her hand.

Behind them, Lily pressed her face to the window. "Look at all the buildings! They're so tall!"

"Wait till you see our house," Jasper told her, grinning at his daughter's excitement. "It's got a pool."

Noah was already on his phone, coordinating with the security team. "Perimeter's secure. Cars are waiting."

The inheritance properties had exceeded all expectations. The estate they'd chosen sat on two acres of manicured grounds, protected by state-of-the-art security systems that Noah had spent weeks upgrading.

As they descended the jet's stairs, the humid air wrapped around them like a blanket. A fleet of black SUVs waited on the tarmac.

"Welcome to Singapore, Mrs. Chen-Blackwood," the lead security officer said, bowing slightly.

The name still felt new on her tongue. Piper Chen-Blackwood. A bridge between past and future, just like Gabriel himself.

The drive to the estate took them through the heart of the city. Lily's eyes grew wider with each passing moment, taking in the gleaming towers and lush greenery that characterized Singapore's unique landscape.

"The offices are there," Gabriel pointed out, indicating a sleek building of glass and steel. "The top ten floors are ours."

"When do we start?" Jasper asked. He'd thrown himself into learning the Asian markets, determined to prove his worth beyond just being Lily's father.

"Monday," Piper said. "Today's for settling in. Learning our way around."

The SUVs turned onto a private road, winding through heavy gates and up a hill. As they crested the rise, their new home came into view.

"Wow," Lily breathed.

The estate sprawled before them, a harmonious blend of modern architecture and traditional Asian design. Floor-to-ceiling windows offered views of the city below. Gardens surrounded the main house, complete with a koi pond and meditation pavilion.

"The security center's fully operational," Noah reported as they entered. "Twenty-four-hour monitoring, direct links to local law enforcement."

Piper nodded, but her attention was on James, who had woken and was taking in his new surroundings with wide eyes.

"Your grandmother's paintings arrived yesterday," Gabriel said, leading them through the main hall. "They've been hung in the study."

The art had been Margaret's peace offering. Along with the truth about Project Phoenix. About the brother Piper had never known she had.

"Mrs. Chen-Blackwood?" A slim woman in a crisp suit approached. "I'm Alice Wong, your house manager. Everything has been prepared according to specifications."

The next hour passed in a blur of introductions and tours. The staff had been carefully vetted by Noah's team. No chances taken, not after Sarah's betrayal.

Later that evening, as Singapore's lights began to twinkle below, they gathered on the main terrace. James dozed in his bassinet while Lily splashed in the infinity pool with Jasper.

"The welcome party's tomorrow night," Gabriel reminded her. "Half of Singapore's business elite will be here."

"Good." Piper sipped her wine. "Time to show them what Blackwood Industries can do in Asia."

"Security's tight," Noah added. "Every guest is thoroughly screened."

"And the Malaysian facilities?"

"Ready to begin operations next week," Jasper called from the pool. "Contracts are signed."

It felt right, having them all here. Each with their role, their place in this new life they were building.

A staff member appeared with a silver tray. "Message for you, Mrs. Chen-Blackwood."

The envelope was heavy, expensive paper. Inside, a single card written in elegant calligraphy:

"Welcome to Singapore. Your brother sends his regards. The Phoenix always finds its nest."

Piper's hand trembled slightly.

"What is it?" Gabriel asked, instantly alert.

She handed him the card. His jaw tightened as he read.

"Noah-"

"Already on it." Noah pulled out his phone, barking orders.

Jasper lifted Lily from the pool, wrapping her in a towel. "Inside. Now."

But Piper remained seated, staring at the city lights below. Somewhere out there, her brother - the one she'd thought dead for thirty years - was watching.

Her mother's words from that last dinner echoed in her mind: "Project Phoenix wasn't just about money. It was about creating something that could never be destroyed. Someone who could never be destroyed."

"We should cancel tomorrow's party," Gabriel said quietly.

"No." Piper stood, decision made. "We're not hiding. Not anymore."

She picked up James, holding him close. Her son, named for a father who'd protected her by disappearing. History wouldn't repeat itself.

"Whoever my brother is, whatever Project Phoenix was... let them come," she said. "This is our home now. Our future."

"Together," Gabriel agreed, wrapping his arms around them both.

On the horizon, storm clouds gathered over the Singapore skyline. But Piper Chen-Blackwood had weathered worse storms than this.

Let the Phoenix rise. She was ready.

Another card arrived as night fell:

"The game begins again, little sister. This time, let's play for keeps."

Behind her, Gabriel and Noah were already planning security upgrades. Jasper was making calls to his contacts in Malaysia. And Lily was teaching her baby brother about their new home, her voice carrying across the terrace.

Family. Purpose. Power.

Singapore wouldn't know what hit it.
