The Lies That Binds

Chapter 176

Ch. 176 / 200 Jun 22, 2025

The air was charged with tension as Piper sat at the head of the table in the makeshift command center, her team gathered around her. The map spread before them was littered with red circles and hastily scrawled notes—marking Salvatore Moretti’s operations and the weak points they planned to exploit.

“This is it,” Piper said, her voice firm, though her pulse raced. “We’re not just defending ourselves anymore. We’re taking the fight to him.”

Gabriel nodded, his arms crossed as he studied the map. “We’ve pinpointed three critical locations: the primary warehouse, the financial hub, and his communications center. Hitting all three will cripple his ability to retaliate.”

Jasper leaned back in his chair, a smirk tugging at his lips. “And send a message that he picked the wrong woman to mess with.”

“I like the plan,” Noah said, tapping on his laptop. “But it hinges on timing. If any one of us is late or gets held up, the whole thing could fall apart.”

“It won’t,” Piper said with conviction. “We’ve been through worse. We’re ready for this.”

The men exchanged a glance, each of them feeling the weight of her words. Piper had become the glue holding them together, and they weren’t about to let her down.

“Then let’s move,” Gabriel said, breaking the silence. “We’ve got work to do.”

The team split into three groups, each assigned to one of the critical targets. Piper and Gabriel would take the financial hub, where Salvatore’s funds flowed through shell accounts and fake businesses. Jasper, with his street smarts and connections, was tasked with the warehouse. Noah, armed with his tech expertise, would dismantle the communications center from a secure mobile base.

Piper’s heart pounded as she and Gabriel drove toward their target, the quiet hum of the car punctuated by the distant wail of sirens. She glanced at him, his expression unreadable as he checked the gun strapped to his thigh.

“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” she asked.

Gabriel smirked. “Always. The question is, are you?”

Her grip on the steering wheel tightened. “I don’t have a choice.”

“Good,” he said, his tone low but steady. “Because tonight, we will finish this.”

The financial hub was a nondescript office building nestled between two unassuming storefronts. Piper and Gabriel approached from opposite sides, moving silently through the shadows.

Piper’s earpiece crackled to life as Noah’s voice came through. “You’ve got two guards at the front entrance, another patrolling the alley. Security cameras are live but not recording—shouldn’t be a problem for you.”

“Copy that,” Piper whispered.

Gabriel motioned for her to follow, his movements precise and controlled. They reached the alley just as the patrolling guard turned his back. Gabriel struck first, his hand clamping over the man’s mouth as he delivered a swift blow to his head, leaving him unconscious.

Piper exhaled, her adrenaline spiking as they moved inside.

The office was eerily quiet, the hum of fluorescent lights the only sound. Piper’s task was to retrieve the files that detailed Salvatore’s financial dealings—evidence they could use to cut off his resources permanently. Gabriel stood watch, his sharp eyes scanning every corner of the room.

“Got it,” Piper whispered, pulling a stack of files from a locked cabinet. She shoved them into her bag, her hands trembling slightly.

“Let’s move,” Gabriel said, his tone urgent.

They slipped out the back just as a patrol car rolled by, their hearts pounding as they melted into the shadows.

Meanwhile, Jasper crouched behind a stack of crates at the warehouse, the scent of oil and metal heavy in the air. A forklift rumbled in the distance, its operator oblivious to the figure lurking just out of sight.

Jasper grinned as he spotted his target: a shipment of illicit goods that Salvatore was set to distribute the next day. With a small device Noah had given him, he planted a tracker on the crates, ensuring they could trace the supply chain back to its source.

“Too easy,” he muttered under his breath.

But as he turned to leave, a guard rounded the corner, his flashlight sweeping dangerously close. Jasper pressed himself against the wall, his breath shallow as the beam passed inches from his face.

“Come on,” he whispered, his fingers itching for the knife at his belt.

The guard hesitated, then turned away, leaving Jasper free to slip out. His heart raced as he sprinted toward the exit, ducking into the shadows just as a truck pulled up to the loading dock.

“Package is marked,” Jasper said into his earpiece, his grin audible. “Now let’s see if you tech wizards can work your magic.”

Noah sat in a van parked several blocks from the communications center, his laptop balanced on his knees. The glow from the screens cast sharp shadows across his face as his fingers flew over the keyboard.

“Cameras disabled,” he said, his voice calm despite the tension thrumming through his body. “I’m in their system now. Copying files and corrupting their servers. Give me five more minutes.”

Inside the building, a pair of guards checked their monitors, oblivious to the fact that Noah was watching their every move.

“Keep talking, boys,” Noah muttered, his smirk widening as he intercepted their radio chatter. “You’re making this way too easy.”

As he downloaded the last of the files, a red alert flashed on his screen. Someone was trying to trace his signal.

“Not today,” Noah said, initiating a countermeasure that scrambled the incoming trace. The system overloaded, leaving his attackers chasing shadows.

“Done,” he announced, leaning back with a satisfied sigh. “Let’s get out of here.”

By the time the team regrouped at the safe house, the adrenaline was wearing off, replaced by a heavy mix of relief and exhaustion. Piper dropped her bag on the table, the files spilling out in a disorganized heap.

“We did it,” she said, her voice shaky but triumphant.

“Yeah, but they’re going to know it was us,” Jasper said, pouring himself a drink. “We hit them where it hurts. They’ll want payback.”

“Let them come,” Gabriel said, his tone as sharp as steel. “We’ll be ready.”

Piper sat down heavily, her head spinning as the magnitude of their actions sank in. They had struck a decisive blow, but the war was far from over.

Noah looked at her, concerned flickering in his eyes. “You okay, Piper?”

She nodded, though her mind was elsewhere. “I’m fine.”

But she wasn’t. The events of the night had left her shaken, not just because of the danger but because of the men around her. Each of them had risked everything for her, and it was becoming harder to ignore the emotional currents pulling them in different directions.

Jasper’s cocky grin had softened into something warmer, his loyalty unmistakable. Gabriel’s steady presence was a constant reminder of his strength and dependability. And Noah, with his quiet humor and fierce intellect, had proven time and again that he would stand by her no matter the cost.

“Piper,” Gabriel said, pulling her from her thoughts. “We need to talk about what comes next.”

“Tomorrow,” she said quickly, her voice tight. “We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Gabriel hesitated, then nodded.

As the men drifted to their respective corners of the house, Piper remained at the table, her thoughts a tangled web of gratitude, guilt, and longing.

Her phone buzzed, breaking the silence. She picked it up, her breath catching as she read the message:

“You’ve made your move. Now it’s my turn.”
