The Lies That Binds

Chapter 190

Ch. 190 / 200 Jun 22, 2025

The command center hummed with activity, screens displaying every angle of their Singapore operations. Piper stood at the center, watching as Noah's team implemented their new security protocols.

"Perimeter sensors are live," Noah reported, fingers flying across his keyboard. "Any unauthorized movement within fifty meters of our properties triggers immediate alerts."

Gabriel entered, looking grim. "Local police are cooperating, but they're limited in what they can do without concrete evidence."

"Show them the factory fire," Piper said.

"Already did. They're calling it an industrial accident." He moved to stand beside her, studying the security feeds. "We're on our own here."

The door slid open as Jasper arrived, his usually immaculate suit showing signs of a long night. "My contacts in the old quarter are talking. The Chen family's been busy - buying property, making connections, spreading cash around."

"How far does their influence reach?"

"Deep enough to worry about." Jasper pulled up a map on the main screen. "They've got people in the ports, customs, and local government. Twenty years of patient networking."

Piper watched as red dots appeared across the map, each representing Chen family connections. The web was extensive.

"Noah?" she prompted.

"Cybersecurity upgrades are almost complete." He highlighted several buildings on the display. "We've isolated our most critical systems, implemented quantum encryption protocols. No one gets in without us knowing."

"What about Lily's school?" Gabriel asked.

"Triple-layered security," Noah assured him. "Armed guards disguised as maintenance staff, facial recognition at all entries, panic buttons in every classroom."

Piper nodded, but her attention was on another screen - the nursery where James slept, monitored by cameras and motion sensors.

"The estate?" she asked.

Gabriel took over the main display. "Complete overhaul. Bulletproof glass, reinforced walls, safe rooms on every floor. Security teams working rotating shifts, all personally vetted by me."

"And the business side?"

"That's where it gets interesting," Jasper said. "I've been meeting with old school friends, people who remember how the Chen family operated before their fall. They're not just after revenge - they want their old position back. Their power."

"Through us?"

"Through you." Jasper pulled up financial records. "If they can destroy Blackwood Industries' Asian operations, prove you can't handle the market here..."

"They step in to fill the vacuum," Piper finished.

"With backing from other families who remember your mother's tactics." Jasper's expression was serious. "You're not just fighting the Chens, Piper. You're fighting history."

An alert flashed on Noah's screen. "Movement at the south gate."

Security cameras showed a delivery van approaching. Noah's fingers flew across the keyboard, running scans.

"It's clean," he reported. "Regular food delivery."

But none of them relaxed. Not anymore.

"What about my brother?" Piper asked quietly.

The room fell silent. The mysterious sibling remained a shadow, his messages appearing and disappearing like smoke.

"Nothing concrete," Gabriel admitted. "But we're tracking every lead."

"He's connected to this somehow." Piper touched the screen where the factory fire still smoldered. "Mother knows more than she's telling."

"Should we bring her here?" Jasper suggested.

"Not yet. She's safer in New York, where we can monitor-"

An explosion rocked the building.

Alarms blared as smoke billowed from the parking garage. Security feeds showed chaos - cars burning, people running.

"Jasper's car," Noah said, enhancing the footage. "Remote detonation. If he'd been in it..."

"Where is he?" Piper spun around, but Jasper was already gone. "Find him!"

Gabriel was on his phone, mobilizing response teams. Noah's fingers blurred across multiple keyboards, tracking security breaches.

Piper's phone lit up with a message:

"Warning shot, sister. Next time, we won't miss it. Ask Mother about the price of defiance."

The smoke alarms cut through her thoughts, driving them to action.

"Lock down everything," she ordered. "No one in or out without triple verification. Get Lily from school, bring her here. And find Jasper!"

Camera feeds finally located him - in the stairwell, heading down toward the garage.

"Stop him," Gabriel snapped into his phone. "He's walking into a trap."

But Jasper had disabled his comm link. On screen, he pushed through the smoke-filled garage, gun drawn.

"Second device detected," Noah called out. "Under the executive parking area!"

"Evacuate the building," Piper commanded. "Now!"

Gabriel was already running toward the garage, security teams converging from all directions.

On screen, Jasper approached a dark figure standing beside another car.

"Feed's breaking up," Noah reported, fighting to maintain the connection.

The last image showed Jasper face to face with someone. Someone wearing a jade pendant.

Then the second explosion hit.

The command center shook. Screens flickered. When they stabilized, the garage was an inferno.

"Gabriel?" Piper's voice was steady, controlled. "Report."

Static crackled over the comms.

Then: "Target escaped. Jasper's down. A medical team was needed."

Piper was moving before he finished speaking, Noah close behind.

Her phone buzzed one final time:

"Family against family. Blood against blood. The game escalates, sister. Choose your players wisely."

In the garage, through smoke and flame, Gabriel crouched over Jasper's still form. Blood pooled on the concrete.

"He's alive," Gabriel reported. "Barely."

Paramedics swarmed in, but Piper's attention was caught by something glinting near Jasper's outstretched hand.

A jade pendant, broken in the struggle.

And beneath it, a photo. Old, worn. Two children smiled at the camera. One was her.

The other - a boy with her eyes, her smile.

Her brother.

The Phoenix wasn't just watching anymore. He was here.
