The Dragon Princess and the Warrior

Chapter 148

Ch. 148 / 150 Apr 06, 2026

POV: Ravenna

The day arrives with impossible autumn sunlight.

Clear skies. Warm breeze. The volcanic valleys painted in gold and amber. Like even the GODS decided to show up for this.

I stand in my chambers while Morgana and Thalassa help me dress. The ceremonial robes are HEAVY—layers of fire-red and water-blue silk embroidered with gold dragons. White accents along the hem and sleeves for my hybrid nature.

At seven months pregnant, I'm ENORMOUS. The robes were designed to accommodate my belly but still—I look like I swallowed a dragon egg.

"You're beautiful," Thalassa says. Her eyes are wet. "You look exactly like Elara did. Strong. Regal. RADIANT."

"I look pregnant and terrified."

"That too." Morgana grins. "But mostly like a queen about to be crowned."

My hair is braided elaborately—white strands woven with blue and red ribbons. Mother's sapphire necklace at my throat. Simple. Elegant. mine.

"Are you ready?" Morgana asks.

No. "Yes."

"Liar." She takes my hands. "But you're going to be amazing anyway."

***

Representatives from all four kingdoms filling the front rows. Common citizens standing in the back, permitted to witness this historic moment.

I see Edmund with his Earth Kingdom delegation—he catches my eye and nods approval. Brynn beside him beaming like this is the best day ever.

Thalassa's Water Kingdom council in full formal regalia.

Even Skyreach representatives—three members of the Seer Council looking appropriately solemn and apologetic.

And Pyrstone. OH. Pyrstone sent observers. Not full delegation but—but observeRS. King Volcris acknowledging my coronation despite technically still being enemies.

All four kingdoms. HERE. Witnessing this.

Unity made real.

Father waits at the dais with the crown on a velvet cushion. The crown is STUNNING—gold base incorporating ruby, sapphire, emerald, and diamond. Fire, Water, Earth, Air. Four kingdoms united on my head.

Theron stands beside the dais in his own formal robes—black with red and gold accents, warrior honors displayed across his chest. He'll be crowned Consort immediately after me. Partners. EQUALS.

He meets my eyes across the hall. Mouths: You've got this.

I take a breath. Start walking down the aisle.

Every step feels impossible. The weight of the robes. The weight of my pregnancy. The weight of what I'm about to BECOME.

But I keep walking. Chin up. Spine straight. Every inch the princess becoming queen.

I reach the dais. Father steps forward.

"Kneel," he says formally.

I kneel. Carefully. Because kneeling while seven months pregnant is an ADVENTURE. Theron moves forward slightly, ready to help if I fall. I wave him back. I can DO this.

Father lifts the crown.

"Ravenna of House Aldric," he intones. His voice carries through the silent hall. "You have proven yourself through trials of strength, mind, and heart. You have awakened your gift. You have united kingdoms. You have fought for justice and peace. You have earned the right to lead."

He places the crown on my head.

It's HEAVY. Gods, it's heavy. But I hold my head up. Let the weight settle.

"I crown you Queen of Cindravale," Father continues. "Protector of the realm. Champion of the people. Leader of Fire Kingdom and ally to all." He pauses. "Rise, Your Majesty."

I stand. The crowd ERUPTS in cheers.

I turn to face them. All these people. All these kingdoms. All watching ME.

Holy shit. I'm queen.

"Your Majesty," the magistrate prompts gently. "Your speech?"

Right. Speech. I prepared one. Where did I—Morgana holds up the paper. I wave it away. Can't read from notes now. This needs to come from my HEART.

I step forward. The hall quiets.

"I stand before you not as someone who sought power," I begin. My voice shakes slightly. "But as someone who learned what power means. What it costs. What it demands."

Silence. Everyone listening.

"I am a hybrid." I let that hang. "My mother was Water kingdom. My father Fire kingdom. I was born between worlds, belonging fully to neither. For twenty-one years, I believed that made me LESS. Diluted. Weak."

I touch my belly. The baby kicks against my hand.

"I learned I was wrong. Hybrids aren't weakness—we're BRIDGES. We connect kingdoms. We carry multiple legacies. We prove that difference isn't corruption. It's STRENGTH."

The Earth Kingdom delegation leans forward. Interested.

"I awakened healing flames—my mother's gift passed through water bloodline to fire body. I should not have this gift according to old beliefs. But I DO. And I have used it to save hundreds of lives. Fire kingdom warriors AND Water kingdom soldiers. Earth kingdom prisoners. Air kingdom diplomats."

I meet Edmund's eyes. He nods.

"Gifts are not corruption," I say firmly. "They are not evil. They are not threats to be eliminated. They are BLESSINGS. Rare. Precious. Worth protecting." I pause. "The Eclipse tried to destroy gift-bearers for thirty years. They failed. Because we FOUGHT back. Because we stood together—Fire and Water and Earth and Air—and said NO. No more hunting. No more genocide. No more FEAR."

The crowd is absolutely silent. Hanging on every word.

"I rule now," I continue. "And I make this promise: Gift-bearers will be protected by LAW in Cindravale. Openly. Proudly. Hybrids will be celebrated for bridging kingdoms rather than shamed for 'diluting' bloodlines. And we will build alliances—real alliances based on TRUST—across all four kingdoms."

I look at Thalassa. "Water kingdom is family now. Not just through blood but through choice. Through shared battles. Through sacrifice."

At Edmund. "Earth kingdom representatives honor us with their presence. I hope this is the beginning of real peace between our peoples."

At Pyrstone observers. "Even kingdoms we fought against are here. Witnessing. ACKNOWLEDGING. That is progress."

At Skyreach representatives. "Air kingdom sheltered our enemy. But they also sent representatives today. That takes courage. I recognize that courage."

Back to the entire hall. "We are stronger together. Fire and Water allied. Earth and Air watching. Gift-bearers and common-born side by side. Hybrids and pure-bloods building a future together."

My voice rises. "I am seven months pregnant with a child who will be the next generation. The next HOPE. And I promise you—I will build a world where my daughter never has to hide what she is. Where she can use her gifts OPENLY. Where she is celebrated for being a bridge rather than shamed for being different."

The crowd erupts. ERUPTS. Cheering. Applause. Edmund and his delegation STANDING. Thalassa crying openly. Even Pyrstone observers nodding approval.

I let the noise wash over me. Let the weight of the crown settle fully.

Theron's coronation as Consort is mercifully brief.

Father places a simpler crown on his head—silver with warrior symbols. "Theron of Cindravale. You have proven yourself worthy through actions rather than birth. I name you Royal Consort. Partner to the queen. Protector of the realm. EQUAL in leadership."

Equal. Father said EQUAL.

Theron stands. Turns to me. We face each other as crowned monarchs.

"Together?" he murmurs.

"Always," I whisper back.

The crowd cheers again. We're both crowned. Both official. Both LEADERS.

The feast lasts ALL DAY.

Tables covering the gardens. Food from all four kingdoms—fire-spiced meats, water kingdom seafood, earth kingdom vegetables, air kingdom wines. Music. Dancing. Celebration.

I sit at the head table with Theron beside me, receiving congratulations from EVERYONE.

Edmund approaches with Brynn. "Your Majesty. That speech was—it was perfect. Exactly what the kingdoms needed to hear."

"Thank you for coming," I tell him. "For bringing your delegation. For giving Earth kingdom representation at this."

"You earned it." He bows. "You've proven yourself a hundred times over. I'm honored to witness your coronation."

Brynn hugs me carefully. "You're going to be an amazing queen. And your baby is going to have the best mother ever."

Thalassa pulls me aside at some point. "Elara would have been so PROUD. So incredibly proud." Her voice breaks. "Thank you for—for being everything she hoped. For building the world she dreamed of. For this."

"I learned from the best," I tell her. "You and Father and everyone who refused to give up on me."

Father finds me as the sun sets. "How do you feel, Your Majesty?"

"Exhausted. Overwhelmed. Like I'm going to vomit from either pregnancy or nerves or both." I lean against him. "But also—also right. Like this is what I was meant to do. Who I was meant to BE."

"It is." He kisses my forehead. "Lead well, my daughter. Lead with your mother's compassion and my fire. Lead with strength and wisdom. Lead with love."

"I will." I squeeze his hand. "I promise."

That evening, after guests finally leave and the celebration winds down, Theron and I escape to the ramparts.

Our place. Where we first held hands. Where we've stood through battles and trials and HELL.

I lean back against him, his arms around me and my pregnant belly. The crown is still on my head. Too heavy. Too important. Too MUCH.

"We did it," I whisper. "We survived everything. Found each other. Built a future. And now—now I'm queen."

"WE'RE leaders," he corrects. "Partners. Together."

"Together," I agree. "Always."

Below us, the city sparkles with celebration lights. OUR city now. Our kingdom. Our responsibility.

"This is only the beginning," Theron murmurs. "Ruling is—it's going to be hard. Exhausting. Impossible sometimes."

"I know." I turn in his arms. Look up at him. "But we'll do it anyway. Because someone has to. Because these people TRUST us. Because we can build something good."

"We can," he agrees. "We will."

I kiss him. Long and deep and certain.
