The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 622

Ch. 612 / 790 May 05, 2026

The tension in the clearing was suffocating. Kael stood firm, his arms crossed, his gaze locked on Lira with unyielding defiance. Across from him, Lira radiated calm authority, her silver eyes gleaming in the moonlight as if she could see right through him.

“This isn’t your decision to make, Alpha,” Lira said, her voice even but sharp enough to cut through steel. “Bella is not just your pack member. She’s more than that, and you know it.”

Kael’s growl rumbled low in his chest, his protective instincts flaring. “She’s my responsibility. Whatever her past is, whatever you think she’s destined for, she’s part of Crescent Howl now.”

Bella stood between them, her heart pounding as their words swirled around her like a storm. Her wolf form had receded, leaving her standing barefoot in the grass, her fingers trembling as she clutched the glowing medallion at her neck.

“Stop it,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Neither of them paid her any mind.

“I’m not here to take her from you,” Lira continued, her tone softening slightly. “I’m here to protect her. The truth about who she is—what she is—will come out, whether you like it or not. And when it does, Crescent Howl won’t be enough to shield her from the enemies she’s inherited.”

Kael’s jaw tightened, and he stepped closer, towering over Lira. “I don’t trust you, and I don’t care what claims you make. Bella stays here. I’ll protect her, no matter what it takes.”

“Enough!” Bella’s voice finally broke through their argument. Both Kael and Lira turned to her, surprised by the force behind her words.

Bella took a shaky breath, her chest tight with confusion and frustration. “I don’t even know who I am. How am I supposed to decide what to do when all I get are half-truths and riddles?”

Lira’s expression softened further, and she stepped toward Bella. “You’ve always known who you are, Bella. You just need to remember. And when you do, the path will be clear.”

Bella frowned, her fists clenching at her sides. “That’s not an answer. Stop speaking in riddles and tell me the truth. Who am I? What do you know about me that I don’t?”

The air seemed to grow colder as Lira hesitated, her gaze flickering to Kael briefly before landing back on Bella. “Your parents,” she began slowly, “are alive.”

Bella’s breath hitched, her pulse racing. “What?”

Kael stiffened, his eyes narrowing. “What game are you playing now?”

“No game,” Lira said firmly. She met Bella’s gaze, her voice laced with a quiet sadness. “Misery and Eryon. Those are their names. They’re your parents, Bella. And they’re still alive—though their lives have been marked by tragedy and betrayal.”

The words hit Bella like a physical blow, and she staggered back a step. Her entire world felt like it was tilting on its axis. “Alive?” she whispered. “They’re alive?”

Lira nodded, but her expression was grim. “Yes. But finding them, understanding their story—it’s not as simple as you might hope. There are truths you’re not ready for, Bella. Truths you need to remember on your own.”

Kael growled again, his frustration evident. “You keep saying that. What does she need to remember? Stop being cryptic and just say it.”

“I’ve already said too much,” Lira replied, her tone calm but unyielding. “If Bella is to survive what’s coming, she must uncover her identity in her own time. No one can force it—not me, not you.”

Bella’s hands shook as she stared at the ground, her mind a chaotic swirl of emotions. “Why didn’t they come for me?” she asked, her voice barely audible. “If they’re alive, why didn’t they find me?”

Lira’s expression darkened, pain flickering across her features. “Because they couldn’t. They made sacrifices to protect you, Bella—sacrifices you can’t yet comprehend. When you’re ready, you’ll understand.”

Kael took a step closer to Bella, his hand hovering near her shoulder as if to offer comfort. “You don’t have to listen to her,” he said softly. “Whatever your past is, it doesn’t define you. You’re here now, and that’s what matters.”

Bella looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for reassurance. She wanted to believe him, to trust that Crescent Howl could be her home. But Lira’s words had ignited something deep within her—a longing for answers, for truth.

“I don’t know what to believe anymore,” Bella admitted, her voice shaking.

Lira stepped forward again, her gaze steady. “Then let me help you. Let me stay here, just for a while. I can guide you, help you uncover the pieces of yourself that have been hidden for too long.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed. “Absolutely not.”

“Kael,” Bella interrupted, her voice firmer this time. “She might have answers. I need to know the truth. If there’s even a chance she can help me figure out who I am, I can’t ignore it.”

Kael’s jaw clenched, his reluctance clear. After a long moment, he exhaled sharply. “Fine. She can stay—but only temporarily. And if she so much as looks at you the wrong way, she’s gone.”

Lira inclined her head slightly, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “Agreed.”

The tension eased slightly, but Bella could still feel the weight of everything that had been said pressing down on her. As night fell and the pack began to disperse, Bella retreated to her den, her mind too restless for sleep.

When she finally drifted off, her dreams were vivid and strange. She saw a woman with silver hair standing in a field of stars, her presence both comforting and powerful. The woman looked at her with piercing eyes and spoke in a voice that seemed to echo in Bella’s very soul.

“You are more than you know, child,” the woman said, her expression gentle but firm. “Remember who you are.”
