The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 617

Ch. 607 / 790 May 05, 2026

The air was thick with tension as Bella stood at the edge of the forest, her senses heightened. The sound of approaching footsteps—heavy, deliberate—echoed in her ears. She exchanged a glance with Kael, who stood beside her, his body coiled like a spring, ready to strike.

“They’re close,” Kael murmured, his voice barely audible. His sharp eyes scanned the shadows between the trees, waiting for the intruders to show themselves.

Bella’s heart raced, but it wasn’t fear that gripped her. It was something else entirely—a strange, undeniable energy surging through her veins. Her muscles tensed, her fingers flexing involuntarily. It was as if her body was no longer entirely her own, responding instead to some primal force deep within her.

“Stay behind me,” Kael ordered, stepping forward.

But Bella didn’t move. She couldn’t. Her feet felt rooted to the ground, her breathing shallow and uneven. Every instinct told her to run, to hide, but there was another voice, stronger and more insistent, urging her to stand her ground.

The first figure emerged from the shadows, a Nyxthorn scout with piercing yellow eyes and a cruel sneer. He was followed by two more, each radiating hostility.

“Well, well,” the leader drawled, his gaze settling on Bella. “Looks like we’ve found the little rogue everyone’s so interested in.”

Kael growled low in his throat, stepping protectively in front of Bella. “If you value your lives, you’ll turn around and leave now.”

The scouts exchanged amused glances, their confidence unshaken. “You can’t hide her forever, Alpha,” the leader said. “Shadowbound wants her, and he always gets what he wants.”

Bella felt a surge of anger at the scout’s words, her fists clenching at her sides. She wasn’t some object to be claimed, some pawn in their twisted game.

“You don’t get to decide what happens to me,” she said, her voice steady despite the fire burning inside her.

The leader smirked, his eyes gleaming with malice. “Oh, you’ll come with us, girl. Willingly or not.”

Kael’s growl deepened, but before he could act, Bella stepped forward, her body moving of its own accord. Her vision sharpened, every detail around her becoming impossibly clear. She could hear the scouts’ breathing, the subtle shift of their weight, the faint rustle of leaves in the breeze.

The energy inside her grew stronger, more insistent, until it felt like it might consume her entirely. Her skin tingled, her bones ached, and a low, guttural sound escaped her lips.

The scouts faltered, their confidence wavering as they took a step back.

“What is she doing?” one of them whispered, his voice laced with fear.

Bella felt her body shift, though not completely. Her nails elongated into claws, her senses sharpening further. Her muscles rippled, and she could feel the wolf inside her clawing to be set free.

“Bella, stop!” Kael’s voice cut through the haze, but she barely heard him.

The leader’s eyes widened as Bella took another step forward, her presence commanding. “She’s not supposed to shift yet,” he muttered, his voice trembling.

Bella let out a low growl, her lips curling back to reveal elongated canines. The scouts were no longer looking at her with smug confidence. Instead, there was fear—genuine, raw fear.

“She’s huge,” one scout breathed, his voice barely audible.

Bella lunged forward, her movements almost too fast to follow. She stopped just short of the leader, her glowing eyes boring into his. The power within her surged, threatening to spill over completely.

“Leave,” she growled, her voice distorted, almost unrecognizable. “Now.”

The scouts stumbled back, their bravado shattered. But the leader hesitated, his gaze fixed on Bella as if trying to piece together a puzzle.

“It’s true,” he whispered, his face pale. “She’s one of them.”

The words hung in the air, heavy with meaning, but Bella didn’t have time to process them. The scouts turned and fled, disappearing into the forest as quickly as they had come.

Bella stood there, her body trembling, the energy inside her finally beginning to fade. Her claws retracted, her muscles relaxed, and she felt her knees threaten to give out beneath her.

Kael was at her side in an instant, his hands gripping her shoulders as he steadied her. “Bella, what was that?” he demanded, his voice a mix of concern and frustration.

“I don’t know,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She looked down at her hands, which were now back to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Kael’s jaw tightened, his eyes scanning her face for answers she didn’t have. “You almost shifted,” he said. “But that wasn’t… normal. You were stronger, faster. And your size…”

Bella shook her head, her mind racing. “I don’t know what’s happening to me, Kael. I can’t control it.”

He exhaled sharply, his grip on her shoulders tightening. “We need to figure this out before it’s too late. Whatever they think you are… it’s dangerous.”
