The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

The Pack Fractures

Ch. 426 / 790 May 05, 2026

Lyra turned, her voice sharp. “Stop it, both of you!” Her silver eyes blazed with anger as she stepped between them. “We’re in the middle of a war, and you’re fighting like children?”

Cassian’s expression darkened, his voice low and biting. “I didn’t have this war until you came.”

Adrian bristled, his fists clenching. “Well, Lyra doesn’t need you.”

Cassian let out a cold laugh, his canines flashing. “Oh really? Who does she need? You?”

The tension between them was palpable, their growls reverberating through the night air. Lyra’s fists tightened at her sides as she fought to hold her ground, her chest aching with frustration. She could feel the pack members gathering nearby, drawn by the commotion.

Outside the meeting hall, the pack’s murmurs grew louder. The sound of Cassian and Adrian’s voices clashing echoed into the night, and the wolves exchanged uneasy glances. The Alpha and Adrian bickering so openly in front of everyone was unsettling, casting a shadow over Lyra’s authority as their Luna.

In the midst of the unease, Velena, the Vampire King’s shadow sorceress, wove her magic. Cloaked in darkness and unseen by the wolves, she whispered spells into the air, her words laced with venom. Her voice reached the ears of the most impressionable wolves, twisting their thoughts like threads on a loom.

“Is this the leadership you trust?” Velena murmured, her magic carrying her words into the minds of the pack. “The Luna brings strife, not strength. She distracts your Alpha. Can she really protect you?”

The seeds of doubt took root, her magic amplifying the uncertainty already lingering in their hearts. A few wolves began to mutter among themselves, their voices carrying traces of Velena’s insidious whispers.

“She’s too focused on her own drama,” one wolf said. “How can she lead us?”

“She’s putting us all in danger,” another added.

Meanwhile, inside the hall, Lyra took a deep breath, her voice trembling but determined. “This needs to stop,” she said, addressing both Adrian and Cassian. “We can’t afford to fight each other.”

Cassian’s growl rumbled low in his chest, but he held back, stepping away from Adrian. “Then get him under control,” he said, his voice cold. “I’m not the one playing games here.”

Adrian scoffed but said nothing, his crimson eyes burning with unspoken words.

Lyra turned away from them both, her mind swirling with doubts. Outside, the sorceress’s whispers continued, sowing dissent like a poison spreading through the veins of the pack.

Lyra woke early, the gray light of dawn just beginning to filter through her window. The events of the past few days weighed heavily on her, and whispers from the pack haunted her thoughts. She decided to head to the kitchen, hoping the quiet of the early morning would bring her some peace.

As she walked down the hallway, the hushed voices of two wolves caught her attention.

“She’s a distraction,” one muttered. “Cassian’s focus is split because of her.”

Another replied, “The pack can’t afford divided leadership right now. Maybe she’s not ready to be Luna.”

Lyra clenched her fists, swallowing the sting of their words as she hurried past. When she reached the kitchen, the familiar scent of herbal tea calmed her slightly. She poured herself a cup and sat at the long wooden table, savoring the quiet as she sipped.

The peace didn’t last long. A heavy presence filled the room, and Lyra glanced up to see Cassian entering, his amber eyes fixed on her. Without a word, he pulled out a chair and sat across from her.

“Couldn’t sleep either?” he asked gruffly.

Lyra shook her head, staring into her tea. “No.”

Cassian rubbed the back of his neck, his expression unusually tense. “I wanted to say… I’m sorry. For yesterday. For everything.”

Lyra looked up, surprised. “You don’t have to apologize. You were right. We did bring this war to your doorstep.”

He leaned forward, his gaze steady. “And I’d fight every day if it meant keeping you safe.”

Her heart ached at his words, but she shook her head. “You can’t keep fighting for me, Cassian.”

He frowned, the intensity in his eyes deepening. “What do you mean?”

Lyra set her cup down, her hands trembling slightly. “I mean, I need to stop being a burden. You have an entire pack to lead, and I can’t just stand here and let you shoulder everything. You have to teach me how to fight. How to be a real Luna who can protect her pack.”

Cassian stared at her, his surprise quickly replaced by something warmer, softer. “You want to train?”

“Yes,” she said firmly. “I don’t want to hide behind you anymore. I need to stand beside you.”

For a moment, Cassian said nothing, his gaze searching hers. Then he nodded, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Alright. But don’t complain when you can’t lift your arms after the first day.”

Lyra smiled faintly, her resolve strengthening. “I won’t.”
