The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

The Shadowbound Attack

Ch. 420 / 790 May 05, 2026

The pack’s territory descended into chaos as the Shadowbound vampires swarmed in, their forms blending seamlessly with the darkness. Each movement of the enchanted creatures was fluid and deadly, their magic rendering most werewolf attacks useless. The clash of claws against shadowy flesh echoed through the night, accompanied by the sharp cries of the wounded.

Isla and Draven fought at the forefront, their attacks coordinated and relentless. Isla’s agility and Draven’s brute strength allowed them to hold the line, but even they were beginning to falter. Blood streaked their fur, evidence of the toll the battle was taking.

From the shadows, Variss emerged, her twin daggers dripping with venomous magic. Her eyes gleamed with cruel delight as she moved with predatory precision. “Where’s your precious Luna?” she taunted, her voice splintering into a thousand whispers that sent chills through the wolves.

In the heart of the fray, Lyra and Cassian fought side by side. Though their movements were initially disjointed, the bond between them began to take hold, syncing their strikes. Cassian’s claws tore through one Shadowbound, severing the magical tether that bound it to the Vampire King. The creature dissolved into nothingness.

“Stay close to me!” Cassian barked, his tone commanding but laced with concern.

Lyra wielded the silver blade Isla had given her, its weight unfamiliar in her hands but its edge biting against her enemies. She managed to fend off two attackers, her strikes fueled by determination, but the artifact’s lingering whispers began to cloud her mind. The dark energy whispered insidious doubts, and her focus wavered.

A Shadowbound vampire lunged at her, its claws outstretched and aimed for her throat. Lyra’s breath hitched, and for a moment, everything slowed. But before the creature could strike, it was split clean in half. Adrian stood behind it, his blade gleaming and blood trickling down his forehead. His crimson eyes burned with fierce determination.

“Adrian,” Lyra gasped, relief flooding her voice.

Another Shadowbound charged, but this time Cassian intervened, his massive frame a blur as he tore the creature apart with brutal efficiency. He turned to Lyra, his amber eyes glowing. “You told me not to die,” he said, his tone edged with humor.

Lyra’s lips quirked in a faint smile despite the chaos around them. “I didn’t think you’d actually listen.”

Cassian smirked, the exhaustion in his features masked by his bravado. “Didn’t think I’d listen to my new wife, did you?”

The Shadowbound vampires had retreated into the night, their dark presence leaving behind a trail of devastation. Fires crackled in the distance, and the ground was littered with the wounded and the dead. Despite the retreat, Variss’s parting words echoed in Lyra’s mind like a haunting melody: “The King is coming. And he’ll leave nothing but ash.”

The pack worked tirelessly to regroup. Isla and Draven coordinated efforts to care for the injured, while Cassian oversaw the fortification of the pack’s defenses. The atmosphere in the stronghold was heavy with exhaustion, fear, and a flicker of hope that they’d survived another attack.

Cassian found Adrian near the edge of the camp, where he was sharpening his blade with deliberate strokes. Adrian’s blood-streaked face was hardened, his crimson eyes distant.

“Thank you,” Cassian said, his deep voice carrying no warmth but a genuine weight. “For protecting the Luna.”

Adrian didn’t look up. “I didn’t do it for you,” he snapped, his tone cold.

Cassian’s brows furrowed, his jaw tightening. He stepped closer, his sheer size casting a shadow over Adrian. “What’s your problem?” he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Adrian set the blade aside and finally met Cassian’s gaze, his crimson eyes blazing with suppressed fury. “You’re the problem,” he hissed. “You’re not good for her. Lyra deserves better.”

Cassian’s nostrils flared, and his fists clenched at his sides. “You think you’re better for her?” he challenged, his voice dripping with disdain. “You think she needs a vampire who can’t let go of something that isn’t his?”

Adrian stepped forward, his voice rising. “The Moon Goddess made a mistake. She didn’t choose you because you’re worthy. She chose you because you’re convenient. Lyra—”

Cassian cut him off, his voice a thunderous roar. “The Moon Goddess didn’t choose you for her. She chose me! This is my pack, my territory, and my mate. You are welcome to stay here and fight with us, but insult me again in my own territory, and I’ll execute you with my bare hands.”

Adrian’s lips curled into a sneer, but he didn’t respond. His fists clenched, and the tension between them thickened, a powder keg waiting for a spark.

Lyra appeared between them, her silver eyes flashing with frustration. Her voice trembled but was firm as she said, “Enough. Both of you.”

Cassian’s glare softened, but his towering form didn’t step back. Adrian held his ground, his jaw tight and his body taut like a coiled spring.

“We can’t afford this infighting,” Lyra continued, her voice rising slightly. “Not when the King is breathing down our necks. Every moment we waste fighting each other is a moment we lose to prepare for him.”

The silence that followed was deafening. Cassian finally exhaled sharply and stepped back, his piercing amber eyes flicking to Lyra. Adrian didn’t move, his gaze still locked on Cassian, but his hands relaxed at his sides.

“Get some rest,” Cassian muttered, his voice gruff as he turned and strode away.

Adrian didn’t respond, his eyes lingering on Lyra for a moment before he picked up his blade and returned to his task.
