The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Into the Shadows

Ch. 428 / 790 May 05, 2026

The air grew colder as Isla and Draven ventured deeper into the forbidden lands, the trees becoming gnarled and twisted, their branches clawing at the pale sky like skeletal fingers. The path ahead was littered with unsettling signs of Seraphine’s growing influence. Dark symbols, etched with precision, marred the bark of ancient oaks and the earth beneath their feet, pulsing faintly with ominous energy.

“Seraphine’s magic,” Draven muttered, his sharp eyes scanning the eerie markings. “It’s a warning—or worse, a trap.”

Isla knelt near one of the carvings, her fingers grazing its jagged edges. “No,” she said, her voice steady despite the tension in her shoulders. “It’s a message. Eryon is close. We have to keep moving.”

They pressed on, their steps cautious yet determined. Every crack of a twig or rustle of leaves set them on edge, but their resolve did not falter. Draven’s protective instincts heightened with every mile, his wolf barely contained beneath his skin. Isla, however, moved with a fiery determination that outmatched even his.

As they climbed a ridge, a piercing howl shattered the stillness. Moments later, shadow creatures, twisted and grotesque, erupted from the underbrush. Their forms were shrouded in darkness, their glowing red eyes the only indication of life—or magic—within them.

“Stay close!” Draven barked, shifting into his wolf form. His massive frame tore into the nearest creature, his jaws snapping with brutal efficiency. Isla moved with precision, her blade flashing in the dim light as she cut down another.

The skirmish was violent, their enemies relentless. Isla fought like a whirlwind, her blade a blur as she dispatched the shadow creatures one by one. Draven’s growls and snarls filled the air, his strength tearing through the creatures with raw power.

When the last shadow creature dissolved into smoke, Isla leaned against a tree, catching her breath. “We’re close,” she said, her voice firm despite her exhaustion. “I can feel it. We have to be.”

Draven shifted back, his breath coming in heavy pants. “Then we keep moving,” he said, though his eyes flicked to her with concern. “But you need to rest.”

“We don’t have time,” Isla replied sharply. “Eryon needs us.”

Unbeknownst to them, a pair of glowing yellow eyes watched from the shadows. One of the hungry wolves, hired by the Vampire King, slunk back into the darkness, retreating to deliver the information.

Far away, the King listened with a sinister smile as the wolf reported. “They’re getting closer,” the wolf growled. “Should we intervene?”

“No,” the King replied, his voice like ice. “Let them find the boy. We’ll take them all at once.”

“Lyra,” Adrian said, his voice low, “I need to know. Are you in love with Cassian?”

Lyra froze, her mind racing. She opened her mouth to answer, but no words came out. Her silence seemed to twist the knife in Adrian’s chest.

Frustrated, Adrian stepped closer, his voice trembling. “Say something, Lyra! Anything!”

Before she could react, Adrian grabbed her arm and pulled her into a kiss. His lips were desperate, pleading, but Lyra’s body stiffened. Her mind flashed to Cassian, to the bond they shared, and the moves he had taught her. Instinct took over.

Without hesitation, she kicked Adrian squarely in the groin. He let out a pained yelp, doubling over as Lyra gasped, horrified at what she had done.

“Oh my Goddess, Adrian, I’m so sorry!” she blurted, rushing to his side. She placed a hand on his back, unsure of what to do.

Adrian groaned, his face contorted in pain. “What… was that for?” he managed to choke out.

Lyra bit her lip. “You shouldn’t have done that, Adrian! You caught me off guard.”

Before she could pull away, Adrian grabbed her wrist and tugged her down beside him. She yelped in surprise, landing awkwardly on top of him. Their faces were inches apart, her silver eyes wide with shock.

“Lyra…” Adrian began, his voice softer now, filled with vulnerability. But before he could continue, the sound of a twig snapping made them both freeze.

One of the younger wolves, clearly out for an early patrol, stood a few feet away, his eyes wide with shock. “Uh… sorry!” the wolf stammered before darting off, clearly eager to escape the awkward scene.

Lyra scrambled off Adrian, her cheeks burning. “Great,” she muttered. “Now that’s going to start rumors.”

Adrian smirked despite his discomfort. “Maybe they’re not entirely wrong.”

Lyra glared at him, brushing herself off. “Adrian, this isn’t funny.”

Far away, in her shadowy lair, Velena observed the scene through her enchanted mirror. She tilted her head, her lips curling into a wicked smile.

“Ooh, a love triangle,” she purred, her voice dripping with amusement. “How deliciously chaotic. Let’s see how long it takes for this to tear them apart.”
