The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

The King’s Taunt Expanded

Ch. 416 / 790 May 05, 2026

The pack’s defenses were a flurry of motion as werewolves clashed with the Vampire King’s shadowbound forces. Variss, the Poisoned Shadow, led the charge, her movements fluid and deadly as she weaved through the battlefield. Her twin daggers glinted with green venom, each strike leaving wolves writhing in agony.

Cassian arrived on the front lines, his ferocity unmatched as he tore through the enemy ranks. His claws shredded a shadowbound vampire, his amber eyes scanning for the source of the chaos. Adrian appeared beside him, his blade flashing as he deflected a strike aimed at Cassian’s blind spot.

“You’re late,” Adrian growled, his tone biting. “Busy playing protector?”

Cassian didn’t reply, his focus on the enemy. Their movements, though begrudging, were in perfect sync as they fought side by side, their animosity temporarily set aside in the face of a common enemy.

Variss darted through the battlefield, her poisoned blades slicing into the werewolves with calculated precision. She paused in the middle of the fray, her crimson eyes narrowing as she spotted Cassian and Adrian.

“Well, well,” she called out, her voice smooth and mocking. “The Alpha and the traitor, fighting together. How poetic.”

Cassian growled low in his throat, his claws flexing. “Step into my path, and I’ll end you.”

Variss’s lips curled into a smirk. “Such bravado. Tell me, Alpha, does your Luna know how close you’ve brought her to death? Or is she still pretending to care?”

Cassian lunged at her, but she sidestepped effortlessly, her laughter echoing through the battlefield. “I’ll leave you a gift,” she said, tossing a blood-soaked scrap of cloth onto the ground. The message scrawled in crimson read: “The King sends his regards. Enjoy your false peace while it lasts.”

Before either man could reach her, she melted into the shadows, her presence disappearing as swiftly as it had come.

Adrian picked up the cloth, his jaw tightening as he read the words. “He’s playing with us,” he muttered, his voice thick with anger. “Toying with our defenses.”

Cassian’s claws flexed, his gaze burning as he surveyed the retreating forces. “Let him,” he growled. “Next time, we’ll make sure he regrets it.”

The dim light of Seraphine’s chambers cast flickering shadows across the walls, amplifying the tension in the air.

Misery stood rigidly before the table where Seraphine unfurled a map, her pale fingers tracing paths and points of interest with unnerving precision.

“Eryon is adapting well,” Misery reported, her voice steady despite the unease curling in her chest. “His strength increases daily.”

Seraphine’s lips curved into a cold smile, her silver eyes gleaming. “As it should. He’s my masterpiece, Misery. And when the time comes, the werewolves will bow to his might.”

Misery nodded absently, her gaze shifting to the map. Among the lines and marks, a particular symbol caught her attention—a dagger carved into the edge of werewolf territory.

It was clear this was a planned strike, a brutal ambush on the pack’s borders. Her heart raced as she forced her expression to remain impassive.

“And the King’s forces?” Misery asked, her tone measured, buying herself time to memorize the details. “How do they play into your plans?”

Seraphine chuckled darkly. “The King serves his purpose. But soon, even he will understand who truly holds the power.” She stepped away, leaving Misery alone with the map for a fleeting moment.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Misery fixed the location firmly in her mind before straightening and stepping back. Seraphine’s return brought an end to her observations, and Misery quickly bowed her head.

“I’ll continue monitoring Eryon.”

As night fell, Misery retreated to her quarters, her heart pounding as she scribbled a cryptic note.

“Attack imminent. Pack border. Be ready.” Folding the paper tightly, she tied it to a raven’s leg. Stroking its feathers gently, she whispered, “Find Adrian. Please.”

The raven took flight, disappearing into the dark sky. Misery leaned against the window, her resolve firm. She couldn’t stand idly by while innocent lives were lost—even if it meant risking her own.
