The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Cassian’s Ultimatum

Ch. 448 / 790 May 05, 2026

The full moon cast its silvery glow across the packhouse, its light spilling through the high windows and illuminating the dark wooden floors. The night air hummed with expectation, the pack restless as they waited for a sign that their Alpha and Luna were united under the sacred power of the moon.

In her room, Lyra stood before the mirror, her breath shallow as she adjusted the intricate gown Isla had prepared for her. Its white and silver embroidery reflected her lineage as the White Wolf’s heir, but instead of feeling regal, the fabric felt like chains binding her to a role she hadn’t chosen.

Her wolf stirred uneasily within her. “You know what they expect,” it said, its voice calm but insistent. “You have to decide if you’re going to give it to them.”

Lyra bit her lip, tears pricking at her eyes as she whispered, “Do I even have a choice?”

The door opened behind her, the sound soft but heavy with purpose. Lyra turned to see Cassian stepping inside, his presence commanding as always, but his expression uncharacteristically restrained. The ceremonial black tunic he wore emphasized the power in his broad shoulders, the scars on his forearms visible even in the low light. His amber eyes locked on hers, and for a moment, the intensity of his gaze made her chest tighten.

“It’s time,” Cassian said, his voice steady as he closed the door behind him.

Lyra looked away, unable to meet his eyes. She turned back to the mirror, gripping the edges of the vanity table as if it could anchor her. “Cassian, I—”

“You don’t need to say anything,” he interrupted, stepping closer. His reflection loomed behind hers, his expression unreadable. “This is about more than us, Lyra. The pack needs this. They need to see that their Alpha and Luna are united. That their future is secure.”

Lyra spun to face him, her voice trembling with frustration. “And you think an heir will fix everything? That it will make me forget everything that’s happened? Forget Adrian?”

Cassian’s jaw tightened at the mention of Adrian’s name, but his voice remained calm. “I don’t expect you to forget him. I don’t even expect you to love me.” He paused, his amber eyes boring into hers. “But I do expect you to stand with me. To be what this pack needs. To be the Luna you’re meant to be.”

Lyra’s breath hitched as his words struck a chord deep within her. “And what if I’m not ready? What if I can’t be what they need?”

Cassian stepped closer, the warmth of his presence radiating through the room. He reached out, his hand brushing against her cheek as his fingers tilted her chin upward, forcing her to meet his gaze. “You’ve already proven you can protect them, Lyra. You fought for them when you didn’t have to. You’ve stood by them when they questioned you. That’s what a Luna does.”

His touch was surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to the hard edges of his demeanor. Lyra’s throat tightened as her mind swirled with doubts and fears. “But I’m still figuring out who I am,” she whispered. “How can I lead when I don’t even know where I stand?”

Cassian’s voice softened, a rare vulnerability creeping into his tone. “None of us start out knowing exactly who we are, Lyra. I didn’t. But we learn. And we fight. And if you’re willing to stay with me, I’ll fight with you every step of the way.”

Lyra searched his eyes, looking for something—anything—that would make her feel less trapped. Instead, she found a flicker of something unexpected: hope. But it wasn’t enough to silence the ache in her heart.

She turned away, stepping toward the window and looking out at the moonlit forest. “This isn’t about us, is it? This is about duty. About giving them what they want.”

Cassian exhaled sharply, stepping up behind her. “It’s about survival. And yes, they need an heir. They need to see that their Alpha and Luna are committed to this pack. That we’re united.”

Lyra turned back to him, her voice tinged with frustration. “And if I say no?”

Cassian’s expression hardened, but his tone remained controlled. “Then we’ll deal with the consequences together. But you need to understand, Lyra—this isn’t just about me. It’s about you. About what you’re willing to sacrifice to protect the people who depend on you.”
