Macy POV
I wake up in the morning, and my bed is nothing but a tangle of arms and legs. Though I went to sleep with neither twin touching me, in the middle of the night, we became intertwined.
Hesitantly, I open my eyes, only expecting to see Winston holding me, but Edward's arms and legs are wrapped around me, too. Wiggling my arms out from under them, I notice that markings on my arms have gotten darker and have spread further.
I am studying them carefully when there is a knock on my door. I attempt to get out of bed, but the twins tighten their arms around me and pin me to the bed. The knocking gets louder, and my mother's voice yells through the door. "Macy, we need to talk."
Edward growls at my side, "She is sleeping."
"Let me up," I whisper. "I need to speak to her. We need to air out some grievances."
Winston tenses beside me. "Do you want us to come with you?"
"No," I shake my head, but I am unsure. "I can handle this on my own."
I climb over Winston, and Edward reaches out and smacks my ass as I leave the bed. A surprised yelp leaves my lips, and I glance back over my shoulder. He is grinning ear to ear and looks very pleased with himself.
Pulling on my robe, I crack my door open and peer out at my mother. "What?"
Only she is not alone. My fathers are at her side. No one looks pleased, and I get the odd feeling that I am in trouble. "Come with us," Dad commands.
Nyx growls in my mind at the force of the command. Her hackles are raised. She doesn't like to be told what to do. She doesn't want me to follow them, but I have always been an obedient child. I close my door and follow them into their bedroom.
Father closes the door and gestures for me to sit down at his desk, but I prefer to stay standing. "What is this about?" I demand to know.
Mom is staring at the marks on my arms in confusion and Dad is pacing the floor. He has never been the level headed one.
"Leo and Oliver may have told you something that wasn't true," Father begins.
"Oh," I roll my eyes. "You mean the part where I was an unwanted child and only exist for the benefit of my mates?"
Mom exhales sharply, and I know I have hit the nail on the head. Tears are rolling down her cheeks, and I try to feel some emotion toward her, but I can't find any.
"I had never planned to be a mother," she whispers softly. "I never had one, and I wasn't sure I could do it. Growing up in foster care is terrifying. You have to understand that. I thought I was too damaged to be a mother."
"So, you were just going to throw me away?" I snap at her.
"I had chosen to keep you before I found out about the prophecy," Mom cries. "You need to know that."
"Are we done here?" I can't keep the resentment from my voice.
"The marks on your arms," Dad begins. "Are they because you are Fae?"
I shrug my shoulders, and I am fully done with this conversation. "I guess so."
"You will need to keep them covered until we know more about what they mean," Father says stiffly.
I laugh loudly. "You could accept Mom being a human, but not me."
"That's not what we are saying," Mom whispers. "The South Pack has accepted a lot over the past eighteen years. We just need time to figure things out. You are a creature from another realm."
"How do you think I got that way?" I shout. "One of you must be part Fae as well. It isn't like my genes just manifested out of thin air?"
"Just give us some time," Dad pleads. "The stigma around fairies is not pleasant."
"I am not a fairy," I growl.
'It is time to leave this place,' Nyx whispers in my mind.
I bite down on my lip to fight back the tears in my eyes. She is right. I begin to walk toward the bedroom door, but Dad steps in front of it. "Where are you going?"
"Away," I respond shortly.
Dad refuses to move, and Father joins him by his side. Nyx jumps to the forefront of my mind, and a growl escapes my lips.
"This has nothing to do with you, Nyx," Father snaps.
Her voice travels through my mouth as if it is my own. "It has everything to do with me. Like you said, Macy is a creature from another realm, and I am just trying to help her return."
"You mean to take my daughter to another realm?" Mom screams from behind me.
"What did you think was going to happen?" Nyx growls. "She doesn't belong here. Neither do her mates."
"She is my only child," Mom cries. "You cannot take her from me."
"A child you didn't want," Nyx snarls. "I was sent here five hundred years ago to protect her and help her find her way home. She is a princess. The Immortal Realm has been waiting on her."
Nyx forces my body to turn back to my fathers, and we wait patiently for them to step aside. Nyx stares through my eyes, warning them not to interfere. After what feels like forever, they move to the side, and I race out of the door.
When I get back to my room, the twins are missing, and it hurts, but I don't have time to think about that.
'What do I need?' I ask Nyx.
'The portal is more than a thousand miles away,' she tells me. 'Take only what you need for the Human Realm because once we get to the portal, everything will have to be left behind.'
'Are we taking the twins?' I ask hesitantly.
'If they will come,' Nyx sighs.
I step into my closet and start to load up my suitcase. Everything I like is at the apartment above the bar, but I can't risk going there. There are too many unmated males and I don't know if the bond between the twins and me is strong enough to ward them off.
'I will protect you,' Nyx reminds me.
Her words put me at ease, and I zip up the suitcase. There is one final thing I need to get. Pushing my dresser to the side, I pull out the drywall I cut a hole in and pull out a small wooden box. I open it and pull out the wad of cash I have been saving from working at the bar. Hopefully, it will be enough to get me where I need to go.
I stand up and spin around to see my mother standing in the doorway. I hold my head high. "I am leaving."
"I know," she chokes on her words. "I have run away many times. I know the signs."
"I am not running away," I tell her. "I am going home."
"Please come speak with Raven and me. I promise I won't try to convince you to stay," she whimpers.
