Macy POV
Nyx holds up a grossly high pair of black heels. I wrinkle my nose at the sight of them. My feet are already killing me because Cassian twirled me around the ballroom all day. I would never admit it to anyone out loud, but it was kind of fun. He managed to let go and be fun. He wasn't the stuffy Cassian I have gotten to know.
"You have to wear shoes," Nyx grumbles. "You…"
"I know, I know," I interrupt her. "I am a Princess, and I have to act as such. What happened to you? You were much more fun in the Human Realm."
"Was I?" She asks.
"Have you already forgotten?"
"There isn't as much holding me to the Human Realm as you," she tells me, but I can tell by the look in her eyes that it isn't the whole truth.
"What about all of the mates you had? What about all of your children?" I ask her.
Nyx swallows hard. "Those are things that I would rather never remember. We don't have time for this. Put on your shoes."
Lifting one foot at a time, I slide on the black shoes. She was right; they look amazing with the dress Destin gave me. As I spin in front of the mirror, my door swings open, and my mates are waiting for me.
Winston looks dashing in a black suit. He has opted for no tie, and the top buttons of his shirt are undone. It looks like he has added a few more tattoos to his collection while he was still in the Human Realm. My fingers itch to trace the lines, but I will keep them to myself for now.
Edward is hiding behind Winston, trying not to draw my attention. He knows he is still on my naughty list, but I cannot deny how great he looks in his suit. Unlike Winston, he has taken a more classic look. The blood red bowtie matches my dress perfectly.
"You both look nice," I break the silence between us.
Winston smiles and gestures to me. "Red should be your signature color," Edward replies. "I think that is what my brother is trying to say."
"What about you?" I ask before giving him a small spin. "What do you think?"
"You still look like the Goddess of Death," he replies.
I smirk at the reference. It is something he said to me when we were reunited after eight years. "Would you prefer I had chosen blue?"
"It would have matched your eyes," he grumbles.
For a split second, I forget all the bad he has done. He is the most difficult man I have ever met in my whole life. He annoys and vexes me at every turn. I don't think we will ever see eye to eye or get along, but I do love him and how he looks in that suit.
"We should get going," I tell them.
Winston offers me his arm, but Edward does not. I try not to let it feel like a rejection and remind myself that I am the one who is mad at him. He falls in line behind us, and Destin waits for us at the end of the hall. He blatantly looks me up and down, but when he looks at my mates, he turns away. We both know that whatever we had for the past few days is nothing compared to the bond between my mates and me.
Destin keeps his face emotionless as we walk into the ballroom. There are more Fae than I expected in attendance, but what I do not see are any Lycan. In fact, I haven't seen any since I came to the Immortal Realm.
The music stops, and everyone turns to look at me and the men at my sides. I can hear them whispering about me and my sudden appearance. I can't tell if their words are harsh or welcoming. I tighten my arm around Winston's and suck in a sharp breath.
He gently pats my hand. I reach out for Edward to join me at my side, but he takes a step away from me. So, Destin takes his place. He didn't have to. He could have let everyone think that I only have one adoring mate. Destin would never subject me to that.
Cassian pushes through the crowd and kisses me on the cheek. "My Granddaughter has finally decided to make an appearance," he chuckles.
The smell of Fae Wine is heavy on his breath, and I lean in to whisper into his ear. "Are you drunk?"
"Well on my way, child, well on my way."
I steal a glance at Destin, who shrugs his shoulders. "Well, this is new."
Cassian roars with laughter, and the whole ballroom joins in. He turns to them and shouts. "This is my Granddaughter, Princess Macy, and her mates."
The crowd rumbles with an excitement that I have never experienced before. The music picks back up, and everyone continues to dance, eat, and socialize. Destin disappears from my side, and Edward slips away, too. Leaving me with Winston, and I cling to him like he is my lifeline.
My plan is to fade into the background of the party and observe. Gently, I pull on Winston's arm to lead him to a corner to hide, but when I turn, I bump into a rather large Fae man. I can't tell his age, but the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes tell me he is much older than I am.
"Hello, Princess," he says as he dips into a deep bow.
"Hello," I nod.
"I would like to thank you for bringing my daughter back to the Immortal Realm," he continues.
"Oh my," I gasp. "Are you Nyx's father?"
"That I am," he replies. "That I am."
I almost squeal with joy. I bounce up and down on my toes, and Winston smacks his palm to his forehead. "You have to tell me everything about her," I beg. "I want to know everything there is to know."
"I do believe you could tell me as much as I could tell you," he smiles. "May I have this dance, and we can exchange stories?"
I look at Winston, though I do not need his permission. He pushes me toward the dance floor and nods. I kiss him on the lips, leaving a trace of my red lipstick behind.
I turn back to Nyx's father and take his arm. "I am afraid I am not a good dancer."
"Then we will make a scene because neither am I," he laughs.
"Oh dear," I giggle. "I was going to follow your lead."
