Winston POV
We sit silently at Macy's bedside and listen to what Mom had seen in Macy's mind. It is complicated, and I don't feel like I fully understand what is going on. Edward, on the other hand, is mumbling under his breath about needing to find the portal.
"There are a few things we haven't told you," Mom continues. "And see how Nyx is complaining about secrets. We should probably talk about it."
She glances over her shoulder, no doubt looking for our dads to help her out, but they are standing in the doorway with their arms over their chests. Both of them have disapproving looks on their faces. That means one of two things. Either they don't want Mom to tell us, or they think this should have been handled a long time ago.
"When Nyx belonged to a woman named Narah. She prophesized that a dark child would be born. One that needed to be raised in the light because he would be a creature that this world hadn't seen for hundreds of years. When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I wanted to believe that the prophecy wasn't about you two, but Narah was wrong and so was I. Instead of one dark child being born, there were two." Mom waits for us to respond.
"You have raised us in the light, Mom," Edward sighs. "We aren't going to turn into monsters. We might be lycans, and we might like to cause a little bit of trouble, but we aren't going to destroy the world."
"Tell them the rest," Dad grunts.
"I don't know if you know this or not, but Luna Tish delivered you," she smiles awkwardly. "While pregnant, I had several visions that told me she had to be the one that delivered you. It wasn't until right after you were both born that I understood why. Tish was pregnant with Macy, and the bond was already forming between you three. The words slipped from my mouth faster than I could think of them. I knew Macy would be your mate, but she was meant to tame you. Without her in your lives, death and destruction will follow. If you don't accept Macy as your mate, you will change, and the world as we know it will end."
Edward jumps to his feet. "You have known since our birth that Macy would be our mate, and you didn't bother telling us?"
"We thought it would be best for you to discover one another on your own," Mom whispers.
"But Macy knew," I respond with certainty. "That is why she bit you when we were three. Nyx told her she would one day have to mark us, and she tried that day."
"And she also knows we are going to destroy the world," Edward shouts, pointing to her. "Fuck, she knows more about us than we do."
"Look," Father growls. "It isn't too late to fix things. You can mend the bond between you."
"I don't know if Nyx will allow it," Mom sighs. "She wants to take Macy to the Immortal Realm when the veil opens. She isn't a human, and she isn't a werewolf."
"That's what you said," Edward growls. "If she isn't those things, what is she?"
"Fae," Mom says with a snarl.
I shake my head. "No, the Moon Goddess wouldn't allow it. Lycans and Fae are enemies."
"The Immortal Realm is divided between the two," Edward picks up where I left off.
"We didn't convince Tish to keep Macy, so you all could deny the bond between you," Dad says gruffly. "Fix the fucking bond."
I feel Macy shuffle behind me and see her lying with her eyes open, staring at the ceiling. "You couldn't find a better place to have this conversation?"
"They didn't want to leave your side," Mom tells her honestly.
"Well, I am so happy you decided to spill everything without my permission. At least I know now that I was an unwanted child, and I was only born to appease the twins," she laughs sarcastically.
"Macy, your mother loves you very much," Mom scolds her. "You know she does. That is why she sent us away when you were ten. She was trying to protect you."
"There is no protecting me," Macy chokes. "Death and destruction may follow your sons, but doom and gloom follow me. We could never make each other happy. I have no interest in mending the bond between us."
"You don't know what you are saying," Mom pleads with her. "You three need each other."
"No," Macy cuts in. "I need Nyx. She is all I need. She will get me to the Immortal Realm, and everything here can fall apart."
Mom stands up and tries to hover over Macy's bed but Edward growls at her. It shocks not only me, but Mom and Macy as well. "Leave," he snaps at her.
Mom steps back from Edward with tears in her eyes and walks out of the room without sparing us a second look. My fathers give Edward a suspicious glance, but they do not chastise him for his tone. They follow Mom out of the room and close the door behind them.
Edward turns his menacing gaze onto Macy and she returns his gaze with the same intensity. "We will deal with our parents later," he tells her. "Right now, we need to clear up whatever this is."
Macy pushes herself up in the bed and crosses her arms over her chest. "I am listening."
"We were all lied to," Edward begins. "Things may have been different between us if we had been told the truth from the beginning."
"Are you saying you might have actually been nice to me?" Macy rolls her eyes. Whatever Edward is trying to do is not working.
"We are sorry," I spit out.
Edward turns to me with his mouth open. That was obviously not what he had planned to say, but I know that's what he meant. We are twins. I can feel his wants in my mind as if they were my own. We both want Macy.
"You are only sorry because of some stupid Fae magic that makes me irresistible to men," she groans. "Let's be real here. You still hate me and think I am Crazy Macy. You just think I am hot now."
"Would you stop being so fucking difficult," Edward growls at her.
"Will you stop being an asshole?" She snaps back.
Edward pushes away from the bed and starts to walk into Macy's bathroom. Macy watches him with a smirk on her face. She gets to her knees on the bed, and I fight back the groan in my throat. She is wearing nothing but a tiny T-shirt and a pair of pink panties. She looks fucking delicious.
"Are you leaving Winston to fight your battles?" She teases. "Are you scared of me now that you know what I am?"
Edward turns slowly, his eyes darkening as he grazes them up and down her body. He is across the room in three steps and has gripped Macy around the throat. I hold my breath. Both anger and lust are filling my mind. I don't know what he is going to do next.
"Do it," Macy says through gritted teeth. "I welcome death."
Her blue eyes are ablaze with defiance. She is serious. I see Edward's fingers flex against her throat, and I step forward. I won't let him kill her.
"Ed," I say sharply.
He doesn't look at me. He jerks her forward, and his lips crash down on hers. She presses her hands against his shoulders as she tries to break free from the kiss, but Edward isn't letting her go. She tries to scream, but he silences her with a swipe of his tongue, and her eyes flutter shut.
He deepens the kiss for only a moment before he pulls away. "Are you going to be a Good Girl?"
"Fuck you," she spits at him, but the scent of her arousal is thick in the air.
"Oh, Crazy Macy," Edward smirks. "That was the wrong thing to say."
