Ian's POV
So far, I thought everything had gone rather well. I made an impression in the kitchen, made a different one in her sister's room, and then confused the shit out of myself in her room. Hailey has definitely been bringing a side out of me I didn't even know I had, but that kiss in her room- I have to be careful.
"Ian, you said you organize charity events, correct?" Mr. Medina asked me.
"Yes, sir, I do."
"So you're kind of like a party planner?" Juan asked, trying to diminish what I do.
"Not really, but if that's all you can compare it to, then sure. They are similar in some aspects." I tried being polite, but this man was honestly, truly annoying. I feel bad for Hailey with the way her father keeps trying to put them together. At the same time, it did anger me that Mr. Medina knew I would be here, and- to his knowledge- I am Hailey's real boyfriend. Yet, here he sat, inviting the man he wants his daughter to truly date, even with her boyfriend present. I think I see where Hailey gets her boldness from.
"What made you choose that as a career? I didn't even know that was a career," Mr. Medina asked, seeming genuinely curious. I don't think he meant any offense by it, even though it certainly sounded that way.
"It's definitely a career, and my father influenced it in a way. He's always helped out with charities, and one day he introduced me to the man that organized them all. I spent a summer with him back in London, and he showed me how amazing it could be. If you organize an event just right, you end up making that charity a good amount of money- and honestly, how could that not be a rewarding feeling?" I thought back to Daren and all the things he had taught me, and how amazing it felt to know we were helping people.
"I hadn't thought of that. I could see how that could be a rewarding job." Mr. Medina nodded as he held his chin in thought. "I should probably go make sure the girls are staying on task. They get so easily distracted when they are all together." He excused himself as he got up from the table, leaving Juan and me alone. I could tell he was going to try to say something to intimidate me or make me feel small in some way, so I just sat there and waited for it.
"Hailey's quite the wild child, isn't she?" He smirked, as if he were thinking of some fond memory of Hailey being Hailey.
"She sure is, but I quite like that about her."
"Oh, I am sure you do, seeing as she's even wilder in bed." He raised his brows, telling me so much with that single sentence.
How can Hailey be annoyed at the thought of dating him if she's slept with him before? It's no wonder the man feels so entitled- so damn daring. The fact he's sharing this with me only tells me how little he respects her and how little he cares about our relationship. Is he hoping we fight about this later? Does he think I'm going to make a scene right now? Perhaps he does, hoping I make a bad impression on her dad.
"I wouldn't know. We've only recently started dating, and I tend to respect a woman enough to not sleep with her right away." I jabbed at his callousness.
"That's surprising. Hailey usually doesn't take no for an answer. If she really wanted to sleep with you, it would have already happened," he continued, making my blood boil with his arrogance.
"Maybe she's taking it more seriously, as this isn't just a hook-up but an actual relationship." Only it's not, and really Hailey could have initiated sex if she really wanted to. I may be in love with Liv, but I also enjoy sex, and when a beautiful woman like Hailey presents herself in that way, well, I wouldn't turn her down, that's for sure.
"Could be," he shrugged, trying to say that probably wasn't it. I am not going to lie, I really wanted to punch this man. Even though I don't actually have any claim to Hailey- not really- he doesn't know that! So what the hell is up with this man?
"Ya, Papi, we got this!" Hailey said, shoving her dad out of the kitchen door. "Actually, you know what? Ian, come help me," she called me as she eyed Juan suspiciously. Was she worried he would tell me what he already implied? I got up from the table rather roughly, letting my emotions get the better of me. Hailey, seeing this, walked over to me, grabbing my hand, and headed for the front door.
"I love you, Papi. We're going to go now. I just remembered Ian and I are going to see Liv. I missed brunch with her today. I'll tell her you say hi!" she called back as she continued to drag me out.
"You should have had her come here. You know she's always welcome. I will see you next Sunday!" he yelled from down the hall as we crossed the threshold.
We quickly got into my car, but my mood was sour. Juan had angered me more than I thought I would. I really shouldn't be, though. Hailey doesn't owe me an explanation. Even if we were really dating, it's not like I would expect a list of her past conquests. The way Juan went about it, making it sound like Hailey just wasn't interested in me in that way, really annoyed me. I kept silent, trying not to let my emotions show as I drove us back to the penthouse.
"Revealing Hearts?" she asked, clearly picking up on my mood. For once, I wanted to play. I wanted to ask her about Juan, so I nodded.
"Why are you upset?"
"Juan," I answered, tightening my grip on the steering wheel.
"What did he do?" she asked, sitting up suddenly, looking upset.
