Back in Sylvester's house, they were having a small party. They were celebrating their winning in a cool style. It was as if they won a big lottery.
The weather was calm inside Sylvester’s home, but the atmosphere between him and Vanessa carried an undeniable sense of triumph. Sylvester leaned back in his chair, swirling a glass of expensive whiskey in his hand. He has a satisfied smirk curling on his lips. The day had been a success. Five million dollars—just like that, effortlessly transferred to his new bank.
The way the money flowed so seamlessly into his account made him feel invincible. If he had known it would be this easy, he would have aimed higher. He would have them aim for an amount that could totally change their life.
"If I had known it would be this simple," Sylvester mused aloud with a voice laced with arrogance, "I would have told Max to pull ten million… maybe even fifteen. He did this so effortlessly."
Vanessa, who was sitting across from him, had her legs crossed elegantly while sipping wine as if they were merely discussing weekend plans.
She chuckled at Sylvester's words and shook her head slightly. "It’s not too late," she remarked. "We can still get it. Whenever we want. All we need to do is pick up the phone and call Max."
Sylvester gave a very deep thought to her words. It was true. Max was in the perfect position to keep siphoning money. No alarms had gone off, and no investigations had started. They had gotten away with it completely unnoticed. He also believed that even if they start investigating, they won't find out.
"Once we finish spending this five million," Vanessa continued, "we will pull another ten million dollars. Anabel is definitely our new oil well."
Sylvester tilted his head slightly and rubbed his chin. "No, I never planned to spend all of it lavishly. I’m planning to put it in my business. It will make an impact on it."
"You will give me my share, though, won’t you?" she teased, and Sylvester smirked. "Of course. You will get your share." He took another sip of whiskey. "And with my portion, I will rebuild my business."
Vanessa sighed dramatically and leaned back in her chair. "You stress yourself too much, Sylvester," she murmured. "Come to think of this, why bother working so hard when you can always pull any amount from Anabel’s company? Why think of money when we have found a new source of income?
Sylvester paused and gave a deep thought to her words. It was a simple thought, yet suddenly, it was tempting.
Why should he put himself through the effort of running a business when this new system was already working? When Max is good at what he does.
"I think you are right," he admitted. "You are making sense. Why the stress?
Anabel’s company had practically become their personal credit bank. No need for strategic business planning. Just take what they want, whenever they want it.
"I'm so sorry, Anabel," he murmured, feigning sympathy. "But you caused this. You made me this way. You made me ruthless toward you. If you had sent the money, I wouldn't be doing all this."
Vanessa chuckled, "Are you having pity on her?" She asked and paused for some moments before she continued.
"She deserves it for delaying and trying to make a fool of us. We will teach her a lesson she will never forget."
Neither of them knew that Anabel had already discovered the truth. And that their celebration will not last. The funny part was that it will make them more broke. They have started the celebration with a bottle of expensive drink. Who knows the next thing they will get.
