"Who is Sylvester?" The dad asked.
"The man who came around when you were in the hospital." Jethro answered, and Sir Orton’s expression hardened slightly. "I’m going to talk to her."
With that, he walked toward Anabel’s room. He got to her door and knocked lightly before pushing the door open. She was sitting on her bed, flipping through her phone.
When she looked up, she immediately knew why her dad was there.
"Anabel, are you seeing another man?" He bluntly asked without wasting any time.
Anabel raised a brow and dropped her phone aside. "Why are you asking me that?"
"Your behavior shows that you’ve seen another man that you plan to marry." He replied, and she scoffed lightly and shook her head. "Stop assuming too much, Dad. This has nothing to do with that. I just don’t want Desmond anymore. I despise him already."
Sir Orton exhaled and stepped closer to her. "I knew how much you hated him, but I think he has changed. You can give him a second chance."
"I've moved on already, Dad. He should do the same as well." She wasn't ready to listen to her father. Accepting Desmond back was not in her dictionary. "I won't marry him again."
"Don't say that. I believe in second chances. Besides, now that he knows your family, you won’t experience what happened before. If not for anything, he now knows your rich background. He’ll respect you, treat you differently."
"There is nothing you will tell me that will convince me to get back with Desmond, because it will never happen. Just because he saved your life won’t make me change my mind."
Sir Orton sighed in frustration. "Anabel—"
"We are divorced, Dad," she interrupted sharply. "And nothing in this life will bring us back together."
"Give him a second chance. The Desmond I saw tonight will take good care of you. Forget the past, Anabel." She frowned and shook her head. "I will not forget the past, Dad. I took the last experience as a lesson. So I won't let it happen again." She said, and just then, Lady Orton walked in.
"Listen to your father, Anabel," she said. "At least consider his words. We will not allow you to make a wrong choice. We want the best for you."
Anabel looked at both of them and chuckled. "It’s like Desmond cast a spell on both of you to persuade me. But let me make one thing clear—that spell will never work on me. I will never go back to him."
"If so, then present another man to us. It's clear you are seeing someone else to be talking this way. Introduce the man to us." The dad said.
"Who told you I have a man?" she demanded.
"Don't even try to deny it. Who is Sylvester to you?" The mom asked.
Anabel’s heart skipped a bit, but her facial expression remained composed. "Who would have told them that Sylvester is my boyfriend?"
"He’s just a friend," she answered. "A business partner. That’s all."
She didn’t want to introduce Sylvester yet. Not until her investigation was complete. Not until she knew the truth.
"You can't deceive us. Introduce Sylvester to us, or you marry Desmond. You have to choose one." The dad said and left.
"I will advise you to accept Desmond back. We trust him. Don't make the wrong choice again."
"He's already a wrong choice."
"Then, tell Sylvester to come and do the right thing." The mom replied. "I want your children to have a father before you give birth to them."
