"You may be shocked to hear this, but someone you cannot predict right in a thousand times saved you."
"You are keeping me in suspense now. Who is that person?" Sir Orton asked.
"The person was Desmond."
"Desmond?" He paused, clearly more confused now. "I don't know any Desmond."
"Are you sure you don't know any Desmond?"
"I know one. But it can't be him. It can't be the Desmond I know. It's impossible." The dad replied.
"I know you will not believe me, but he is the one. Desmond, Anabel's ex-husband, healed you. He is the one that saved your life." Jethro said, and Sir Orton let out a slow breath, shaking his head. "That doesn’t make any sense," he muttered. "Desmond is a businessman. Not a doctor."
Anabel was still quiet, listening to them. She was tapping her fingers lightly against the edge of her plate. She doesn't like the fact that Jethro was bringing Desmond up to his father.
"Yeah, you are right. I thought the same thing at first," he admitted. "But it turns out that Desmond knows his way around acupuncture. The specialist who failed to treat you gave him permission to treat you at last."
Sir Orton stared at Jethro for a moment, absorbing the information, before he turned to his wife. "Is this true?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied. "If it weren’t for Desmond, we would have lost you."
“This is unbelievable. But how did Desmond know I was in the hospital?” He asked in curiosity. "Is he now working for the hospital?"
"A nurse recommended him,” Jethro said. “She had seen him treat someone with a similar case before, and she suggested we call him. At that time, we didn’t know who she was referring to. None of us expected it to be Desmond.”
“So, you were caught off guard when he showed up?” Sir Orton asked, and Jethro nodded. “Completely. We were shocked. None of us had any idea that the person coming to help would be Anabel’s ex-husband. It was the last thing we expected.”
Sir Orton chuckled softly, shaking his head as he reached for his glass of water. “I'm still finding it hard to believe this. So he is the reason I'm alive today?"
"Yeah, he was our savior. We thought we had lost you already. It was as if he brought you back to life." Jethro said, but Anabel hasn't said anything. She was busy eating her food.
"I will admit that I always saw him as a terrible person after what happened. After the cheating, the divorce, and everything he put Anabel through. But now…” he paused, letting out a thoughtful sigh, “it seems he has a good side. This action shows that, at least, he is a decent man.”
Anabel, who had been quietly pushing the food around on her plate, frowned deeply at her father’s words. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Her father was already talking well about him just because he saved his life. She doesn't want to talk, but at that moment, she could not hold it anymore. She set down her fork sharply and looked at him.
“I don’t like the way you are talking about him,” she said with some trace of irritation in her voice. “Just because he saved your life doesn’t mean he’s a good person. He did what anybody in his position would have done. It doesn’t magically make him noble.”
Sir Orton smiled, but before he could respond, Jethro spoke up, “Anabel, you know that’s not true. Not everyone would endure the insults and belittlement he received from you, the so-called Sylvester, and the doctor. You guys pushed him with hard words, but still, he didn't leave. Not everyone will endure all of that." Jethro finished his explanation, and Anabel scoffed as if he wasn't making any sense before she replied, "He stayed because he wanted something.”
