"Why are you always using that mistake against me? I told you already. I was manipulated. I was pressured by my family, by their lies, by everything they told me. I made a mistake. And I’ve admitted that mistake. Why are you still using it against me?"
"Admitting it doesn’t erase it. It doesn't make you a changed man." Anabel snapped. "You will never want me back if I'm not pregnant. You want me back because of the twins."
"Don't say that. I want you back because I love you. I want you back because of the truth. I want you back because I won't be able to have peace of mind for the rest of my life. I won't enjoy anything in this life without you. I don’t expect us to erase the past. But I do expect you to listen to me when it comes to Sylvester."
"Do you know what’s funny, Desmond?" She began. "You think you have the right to tell me who I should be with, but the truth is that you lost that right the moment you signed those divorce papers."
"And what if Sylvester is lying to you? What if everything you think you know about him is just an act?"
"Then I’ll find out for myself," she answered. "I don’t need you to tell me. I've not transferred the money to him, and I'm not planning to transfer it. I'm delaying things intentionally so I can find out that truth."
"That means you are listening to my advice."
"I'm not doing it because of what you told me. I'm doing it because of the signs I'm getting."
"You can never admit it, but no problem. The next time you visit him, go without informing him. Maybe, just maybe, you will find them fucking their brains out."
"That will never happen. I only suspected that they wanted to extort money from me. My only suspicion was that they did fake surgery to get money from me. Sylvester will never cheat on me. After all, not with her cousin sister."
"So you didn't believe me when I said she was her fiancée? You still believe she is his cousin?" He asked.
"You were saying that out of jealousy. You want me to leave him. That is why you say that. You want me to break up with him so you will have your way back into my life."
"Wait... I don't get something. Does it mean you will forgive and still be with him if you happen to find out that the surgery was fake?" He asked. "Because with the way you are talking, it seems like the only thing that will make you break up with him is cheating."
At this point, Anabel didn't know what to answer. Stealing is also a crime. She won't be able to stay with a man who wants to extort money from her. Any of the crimes will surely lead to a breakup. Deep down, she knew that Desmond was making sense, but she didn't want to admit it as long as it was him.
"This is not why I'm here. I'm here to appreciate you, but since you choose to become a philanthropist, I will be going." She grabbed her purse and sat up. "And... for your peace of mind and mental health, erase me from your mind. Take that as advice."
He turned to leave and stopped, then twirled toward Desmond. "And let me make this clear to you. Even if I break up with Sylvester, I will never accept you back, and you will never have any of my children. And… don't think that court will help you. Both of us know that the richer always wins. And to my father, you are just a poor boy."
"What if your father supports me this time? He can never hurt someone that saved his life." Desmond said, and Anabel couldn't help but laugh as if he just cracked a joke.
"So because you saved him, you now think you have his heart?" She asked. "Don't let what you did get into your head, thinking that my dad will stand against my wish because of you. He's still my father, and my happiness will always be his priority."
