Raphael POV
Why was Araceli suddenly so resistant to this?
Never mind. Since she had already made up her mind, I would not persuade her again.
I just felt a bit sad, because Krish was really a computer genius.
I thought about it, but couldn't come up with an answer, so I turned around and walked into the guest room on the first floor.
As soon as I entered, I saw a pair of men's slippers on the bed and a men's suit hanging on the hanger.
I had previously thought that no men lived here ever. It turned out that I had guessed wrong.
Could it be that this guest room was exclusively for men to stay overnight?
How many men had stayed in this room before?
A wave of irritation inexplicably rose from the bottom of my heart.
I turned around and walked out of the guest room, and found that this room was the only guest room.
I sat down impatiently on the couch, intending to just lie on it for the night. However, I tossed and turned for two or three hours and never fell asleep.
Just when I finally got some sleep, suddenly, there was a low shrieking sound.
It wasn't loud, but I had good hearing, so I was aware of it when it came.
I frowned, looked up, and looked in the direction where the sound came from.
It was Araceli's room.
I didn't know why, but I felt a little uneasy, so I decided to walk upstairs to make sure Araceli was okay.
It was dark and very quiet outside. The only lights in the house were the dim ones that were still on, casting my shadow on the walls. The windows fluttered slightly as the wind blew, making a low noise.
I was about to push the door in when a small figure came out of the corner of the hallway.
I was startled, but didn't show it.
Why did the boy walk without a sound?
I took a deep breath and prepared to explain to him, but Krish narrowed his eyes slightly and said coldly, "You can't go in."
I froze for a second.
"Your mommy is crying in the room. Didn't you hear?"
In the dim light, Krish's face blurred. I couldn't see the expression on his face, only that his eyes were clear, as if there was still a little tear glinting.
Krish lowered his voice and said, "Mommy has a nightmare, and that's why she's crying. When this nightmare is over, she will be fine."
I was a little shocked.
Krish's tone was flat, as if he had experienced this kind of thing often.
Did Araceli often have nightmares? What would she dream about before she cried?
A sudden pain passed through my heart.
My mother also often had nightmares and bawled in her dreams. When I was a child, I would get scared and try to wake her up, but instead of waking up, she would suffer more.
When I saw Krish at this time, it was as if I saw myself as a child. At that time, I was helpless and scared. I was afraid that my mother would leave me and leave me behind.
What kind of despair and grief gripped Araceli that she had nightmares like my mother to the point of bawling?
The cries came clearly from Araceli's bedroom again.
"No! My baby!"
I suddenly felt my breathing quickened a lot. It brought back a lot of heavy memories, so I subconsciously pursed my lips and didn't open the door to go inside.
Krish and I just stood in the doorway, saying nothing.
Until the cries from Araceli's room stopped, I lowered my voice and asked Krish, "How often does your mommy have nightmares?"
Krish appeared calm and collected, but I knew he must have been terrified to death.
Whenever my mother had a nightmare, I would crouch on the floor in front of her room and shiver. However, this eased a lot when I grew up.
Krish looked up, glancing at me with some disdain.
Just when I thought he was going to turn around and go back to his room, he bowed his head and said, "The year I turned three, Mommy used to have nightmares. About once every three or five days. Then I slowly grew up. She no longer needed to be so tired because I would help her take care of Valeria. After that, she stopped suppressing her talents and started to continue her research in artificial intelligence."
He took a deep breath and continued, "She met some friends, had a career, and stopped having nightmares. I consulted a doctor, and the doc said if she was awakened during a nightmare, it would only make the memory of her pain more etched in her mind. So, I never dared to go in and wake her up."
I listened quietly without saying anything. I didn't know why, but I wanted to hug this little boy in front of me.
What had they been through? What was it that made Araceli have nightmares so often? Did it have anything to do with Valeria having autism?
I sighed slightly, hoping that they would forget the pain as soon as possible, although it would be difficult.
I stood outside the door and suddenly thought of the news.
"Eclipse's eldest daughter, Araceli Chancey, was photographed by a reporter the day after her coming-of-age ceremony lying naked in a hotel room with men's clothes scattered on the floor. From then on, Araceli became a disgrace to Eclipse and was abused by everyone..."
"After that day, Araceli disappeared."
"Eight months later, Araceli gave birth to two dead babies and set Eclipse on fire, allegedly committing suicide by fear."
At the time, it was a shock to the whole of New York's upper class.
I didn't care about gossip, even though I heard a lot of people talk about it.
Araceli must have had a hard time for the past five years. Not only did she have to take care of her two children, but she also had to continue her research, even though she was doing both well.
Krish was a sensible boy, and Valeria was slowly recovering...
I sighed slightly as I thought about this.
I looked at Krish, who was shrouded in darkness, and slowly asked, "Where is your father?"
If that man had lent a hand, Araceli would not have had to suffer so much.
In the darkness, Krish's sneering voice came.
He looked at me and said coldly, "My father is dead."
