Araceli POV
I gripped the glass of water in my hand and said slowly, "Eliezer, please ask Lexie for me if he has time to help me with a lawsuit?"
Eliezer heard my words and repeated my question to the phone receiver. He frowned slightly and said apologetically, "Araceli, Lexie has already signed a contract with Mr. Fleming, who has already paid 50 thousand dollars for the consultancy."
I nodded, frowning.
Eliezer hung up the phone.
He frowned and said, "Araceli, I know other lawyers. I can introduce you to another one if you need it."
I pursed my lips and said, "Eliezer, let me be honest, the person I'm dealing with is Ramon Fleming, so if you're going to introduce me to a lawyer, that lawyer will have to be more professional than Lexie."
Eliezer was silent.
I put down my glass and got up.
Since the best lawyer in New York had been signed by Ramon, I would go to the best lawyer in the entire United States.
There was nothing I couldn't do.
I looked up some information on the Internet, found the number of a law firm, and called for advice.
"Did you say the other side got Lexie Bowyer as a defense attorney? I'm sorry, our firm doesn't have any lawyer who can handle Mr. Bowyer..."
I asked calmly, "Do you know of anyone who would be willing to take on this lawsuit, please?"
"Ms. Chancey, I may be reckless in saying this, but no one else would dare. lexie is by far the best known attorney in the country. He almost never loses a lawsuit. Wait... Ms. Chancey, do you know Kenneth Easton? To the best of my knowledge, I'm afraid Mr. Easton is the only one who can handle Lexie..."
I frowned slightly. "Could you please give me Mr. Easton's contact information?"
"Ms. Chancey, I'm sorry. I don't have his contact information. I have to tell you that Mr. Easton is eccentric and only takes on cases that interest him. He has money and doesn't live on it, so he only takes one or two cases a year."
"Okay, thank you."
I hung up the phone and typed "Kenneth Easton" into the search box. Several pages of information came up instantly. The media described this man as "the most eccentric and brilliant lawyer in America".
He hardly ever lost a case, but he took very few cases.
This man was, indeed, good enough.
If I could get Kenneth to be my lawyer, I would be in strong hands.
I searched the Internet for a long time and found out that Kenneth was coming to a meeting with a law firm in New York at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
I made up my mind that I would hire him as my lawyer.
...
The next morning, I drove to the front door of the firm.
I didn't expect that a large group of people would be waiting here.
"I had to see Mr. Easton today, and if he would help me, I would win my case!"
"Move over! I'm the first one to come! I have to be the first to see Mr. Easton!"
"Get out of the way! Mr. Easton, I'll give you any money you want!"
A group of people were clamoring in front of the building.
Suddenly, a car pulled up in front of the building. Before the car door opened, dozens of bodyguards ran out of the building and surrounded the car.
A man in a gray suit got out of the car. He wore glasses and had a refined temperament, but his eyes carried a sharpness.
There were just too many people...
There was no way I was going to see Kenneth, so how could I ask if he could help me?
I watched Kenneth enter the building and didn't even get to say a word to him.
I was trying to figure out what to do when my phone rang in my pocket. I glanced at it.
It was an unfamiliar number.
I pursed my lips and put the call through.
"Ms. Chancey, I've called a lawyer. You can talk to my lawyer if you have anything to do in the future." Ramon's voice came from the other end of the line. "By the way, my lawyer says that the father has visitation rights to the child ex officio. That means I have the right to visit my children whenever I want. I'll be picking up Krish and Valeria tomorrow. This is just to let you know in advance."
I clenched my phone in anger and bit my lip.
Ramon had really decided to snatch Krish and Valeria...
No matter what, I had to see Kenneth.
I sneered, "Mr. Fleming, if my children were missing, I would call the police. And you will be the first suspect. Do you want to go to jail?"
"Ms. Chancey, why do you have to go toe-to-toe with me?" Ramon said contemptuously, "I'm telling you, you can't win against me in a lawsuit. As soon as the trial starts, the judge will definitely award me custody of Krish and Valeria."
"There's no way I'm letting you take my kids!"
I gritted my teeth, my voice filled with tremendous anger.
Ramon was silent for a few seconds.
"Or maybe there's another way to go about this..." Ramon said, "Krish and Valeria were raised by you, so I'm not really willing to just take away your custody. It would be cruel. If you marry me and stay with me, Krish and Valeria will have a father. They can grow up in a normal family environment and have a happy childhood. Do you think I'm right?"
I sneered, "How can we be together? You have a family!"
Ramon thought I was convinced and quickly added, "I'll buy you a house in New York. You and the kids can live there. After I clear this mess up and get a divorce, I'll marry you. I promise."
I snickered, "Mr. Fleming, do you realize that this is marital infidelity?"
"Ms. Chancey, yes, I did get married, but I can divorce her. It's not a big deal," Ramon said indifferently, "You know divorce is a bit tricky in a rich family like ours, and it can take years. In these years, you can wait for me to settle everything. After that, I will marry you..."
I just felt sick and couldn't listen any further and hung up the phone. I stared at the phone number and blacked out the number.
I just wanted to kill him when I thought that I was ruined by such a man five years ago.
I convinced myself over and over again to calm down before I could suppress my anger.
I stood at the entrance of the building and waited for a long time. Many people were waiting and shouting at the door. I waited until 4:00 p.m., but Kenneth didn't come out.
It seemed I had to think of another way...
