" Hired?" the words escaped my lips as dread filled me.
" I'm sorry," he whispered. Ellis tried to comfort me. He placed his hand on me comfortingly, but I shrugged away from him. I don't want any comfort right now. I just found out my best friend was being paid to be by my side!
" Dad, explain," I said, glaring at Luis. My body was shaking in anger.
" Well, you were adamant about going to New York alone, and our family was under attack by a notorious enemy pack. My children were targeted to hurt me," Dad said,
" We didn't tell you because we didn't want you to live in constant fear," Mom added. She looked sad.
" So, I reached out to the Vander's SHIELD. The chairman and I figured it would be easier if someone you knew protected you without your knowledge. So, he suggested to his son, Luis," Dad finished.

" Good morning, mummy," they said. I kissed their hair and looked at Zeyneb. I greeted Apollo, too. The boy seemed more cheerful than the last time I saw him. Zeyneb must have convinced Maybin to share custody.

She gestured for me to sit, and I did. The chef served me my breakfast. We ate in silence. Zey watched me carefully.

" He sent you here?" I scoffed. I wasn't going to let this go so easily. My best friend lied to me. He was my hired protector!
" Did you know?" I asked, eyeing her intently. She shook her head.
" No," she pressed her lips together. I didn't believe her.
" He told you!" I boomed, scaring the kids. Zey stood up and dragged me into another room. I was fuming. He told someone he met a few months ago, but not me.
After my discussion with Zeyneb, and knowing how sorry Luis was, I decided I would talk to him. Just not now.
" I need to talk to Ellis. I'll see you later," I grumbled.
I went to the office building. I realized I have been neglecting my office duties, but so much has happened lately. However, my assistant has been doing a good job with the work.
I went straight to the CEO's office. I knocked once before I walked through the door. Ellis turned his head to me with a smile.

He stood up and walked to me. He suddenly hugged me. I couldn't help but hold him tighter as he rubbed my back,
" I'm sorry about what happened. However, Luis has the best intentions for you,"

I explained everything to my mate. He was deep in thought. I could see the conflicting emotions on his face.
" But you still have your strength and speed?"
I nodded to answer his question. He cupped my face after a few minutes and said,
" We'll find a way to get her back. Don't worry too much. We have many mage allies that can help. For now, I'll double security on you,"
" I'm meeting my brother and Prince Nicholas. They might help me try to get her back through natural forms of connecting with Vee," I informed him.
" Just remember to take it easy, and don't force it,"
I nodded. I was ready to leave his office but the urge to kiss him overwhelmed me. I gave in to my urges and kissed his lips.
' Mate,' I heard the small voice of my lycan inside my mind. She sounded... Different. My heart was racing in my chest. A slither of hope came to me now.
