I couldn't help but smile at how my life turned out. I loved Love so fucking much... She changed my life for the better. She and the precious gift of life _ our twins. Our children. My children. They were so precious.
Solara and Cayden were my great loves. They were similar in many ways while being different simultaneously, which was amusing. Solara was very cheerful and talkative. She was a ball of happiness, just like her mother. Cayden was introverted. He talked with his eyes and facial expression. He was quick to anger and loved roughhousing. I was smiling like an idiot just thinking about my wonderful family.
I opened my drawer and got the box. Inside was a ring I bought for Love several years ago. I would propose to her before Charlotte showed up, and I ruined everything. I didn't want to think about the past; I was looking towards the future with a smile. I would propose marriage to her tomorrow, at our favorite spot.
A happy future that awaited us. The door to my office opened, and my son walked in. He went straight to my chair and climbed on my lap.
" Hey, buddy," I kissed his hair.
" Dad, what is this?" he asked. My heart swirled with adoration. I thought I'd get used to the word Dad, but I still need to. Every time Cayden said Dad, and Solara, Daddy, my heart beat like crazy.
" This is a ring. I want to give it to Mommy," I told him.
" She has many rings," he frowned, looking up at me.
" Well, this is a special ring. It's an engagement ring."
" So, will there be a wedding?"
" Yes,"
He didn't look too pleased about that. He had a grimace on his face.
" You don't want me to marry your mommy?" I asked.
" No, Mommy tells me to wear a tux. I don't like it."
" You don't have to wear a tuxedo if you don't want to. You can wear anything at the wedding," I told him. His face lits up.
" You know Mommy won't let me, but I'll try as you told me," he said. I chuckled. He knew his mother too well.
" Where's your sister?" I asked. Typically, they would come together.
" She went to get a dress with Mommy at the mall because she spilled paint on the one she would wear later," he said. I carried him in my arms as I got up. I put him in the chair while I grabbed my phone to call the head of security. I wanted them to be careful. However, he told me he wasn't aware Love left the manor. I ended my call instantly and called my mate. How could she be so reckless? She had a stalker after her. To make matters worse, she didn't have her lycan!
She answered the phone. It felt so good to hear the voice. She was on her way home. I grabbed my son's hand and left the office. I need to go to them now. My heart was uneasy.
" Go find Granny. I'll be back," I kissed Cayden. He grabbed my pants and shook his head, and his eyes filled with tears.
" Something is wrong with Lara. She's scared,"
No sooner had he said it than he burst into tears. I hugged him tightly,
" Son-"
" Mummy, I'm scared. I think you should stop the car," my daughter's fearful voice said. My heart raced painfully, and fear ascended in my heart. I kissed Cay as Gina came to us and ran to my car outside. I sped out of the driveway. People screamed in fear as they dodged my vehicle.
" Love, babe... Is everything alright?" I asked. Nothing was alright despite questioning. I could feel it. I could feel their fear through the bond we shared.
" Ellis, I'm running fast," she was panicking.
" Step on the brake... Stop the car," I was desperate. My hands were shaking with fear. I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white. I stepped on the gas, violating every traffic law there was.
' Daddy... I'm scared,' Solara's mind linked me. It was the first time she had done it. I could sense her fear, and it drove Lias and me crazy. I felt something hot run down my face.
' You'll be fine, okay?' I assured her. I lied. I didn't know if she would be. I could only pray that she would be... That they would be alright.
' Dad, I need you,' she cried.
' I'm coming to you, my baby,' I whispered. More tears left my eyes.
' hurry,'
" Try again, babe... Please," I shouted.
" I love you, Ellis," was the last word I heard from Love before a loud crash echoed through the phone. Their screams and that horrid sound rang in my head. I was screaming, too.
' Ellis. What happened to Solara? Cayden is crying there, saying something terrible has happened,' Zey mind linked came. My head was pounding. I couldn't see or think properly. I was terrified. Very terrified.
' M- my mate, s- she is in an accident. There was screaming. I can't lose them,' I managed to formulate coherent sentences.
Why the fuck was this taking so long? Which route did they use?
' I will call everyone and check security cameras around the area,'
I reached the crash sight. My body trembled as I forced the door to the car open. There were many police officers. I passed through the yellow barrier tape. My breath ceased. There was so much broken glass and car parts.
" Sir, you are not allowed in," one officer said,
" That's Mr Carter. The alpha," another senior man said, scolding the younger officer with his eyes. He bowed his head to me,
" My wife and daughter. Where are they?" I growled. The earth felt spinning as I searched around with my eyes.
" Oh sir - Alpha, we didn't know they-"
" Where are they?" my voice broke.
" The little girl was in bad shape. She was taken to the hospital a few minutes ago," he told me,
" And the woman, Love, where is she?" Luis had entered the zone. His face was fear-stricken.
Zeyneb, Lilac, and Todd were with him. Jace comforted me by placing his hand on my shoulder and then went to his bawling mate.
" Well, we can't find the driver," the senior said.
" However, they are divers in the river, searching," he informed me. I couldn't think. I didn't know what to do. For the first time in my life, I blanked. My chest constricted painfully. Love was nowhere to be found, and my baby girl was in a bad state in the hospital ... Alone.
My sister hugged me, "Go to the hospital. CC is on her way there, too. We'll stay here and help the police with the search for Love."
I only nodded. Lilac came with me. Todd was the one driving the car now.
As soon as we arrived at the hospital, we were directed to the ER. I saw CC in the hallway. She rushed towards me and hugged me. I let her hold me for a long time. I needed this.
" What did the doctor say?" I asked, pulling away.
CC wiped my tears away with her thumb. I hadn't realized I was crying.
" She is being operated on," she told me, taking me to the chair. I didn't want to sit, though. I stood against the wall. My body was trembling uncontrollably, yet I was numb, so numb.
We waited there for an hour before the door to the ER opened. I stood up and rushed to the doctor.
" Doctor! How is my daughter?"
" Well, she took a blow to the head. We stopped the bleeding in her head. However, she was in the water for quite some time, which may cause spinal cord injury. The next few hours will be crucial," he said sullenly. My heart hurts... Badly. Drowning
" In the water? Doctor, what do you mean?"
" Yes, if she wasn't taken out on time. She would have died by drowning," he said.
The officer didn't tell us about finding her in the water. I collapsed in the nearest chair, my hands on my head as I prayed. I seldom prayed. I prayed that the goddess should heal my daughter fully. That she shouldn't be taken from us so soon. I furthermore prayed that Love is safe. However, the dread and knot in my stomach told me otherwise.
I felt arms around my shoulders. I looked up at CC. She caressed my face,
" Your daughter will be fine. I'll go and say my prayers now," she said. She left the hallway, her entourage following after her.
" Alpha Ellis, you can go if you want. We'll call you," Lilac said.
Zeyneb mind linked me, telling me they were still searching for Love, but it was fruitless. She told me she'd inform me of any news. Regardless, I needed to go there myself.
As I drove to the bridge of the accident, I thought about the doctor's words. The condition my daughter was in. I let out an antagonizing scream. I banged my face against the steering wheel over and over. I wasn't there. I should have been there to protect them.
' Jace, the doctor said my daughter almost drowned. Who got her out of the water?' I asked.
' How is she?' he asked, concerned.
' She's in a critical condition,'
' Shit. I'm sorry, man.'
' Someone got her out of the river on time. I want to know who. They could have seen something.'
' The police don't know either. When they arrived, Lara was lying in the middle of the road, wet and covered with a large jacket,' he informed me. Who rescued her and left?
I arrived at the scene. Jace and Luis rushed to me. They both looked worried,
" What is it?"
" I think a witch took Love," Luis said.
