Love
Ellis has been through the withdrawal, and it was terrible for him. His fever went up and down so abruptly. I couldn't help but feel so much anger towards Charlotte. She was the reason my mate was in pain. I will have to visit her soon to give her a taste of my fist.
I watched Ellis sleep after giving him the medicine my aunt gave me. I decided to call my brother. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he wasn't alright.
" Love," he croaked. My heart shattered for him, and I wanted to hug him.
" I heard what happened from Aunt Selene. I'm sorry," I said softly.
" She lied to me. Elizabeth betrayed me,"
" Don't rush to make any decisions right now. You'll regret it if you do," I told him.
" The council wants her dead. However, I can't do it. I need to find a way to save her and keep her away from the pack," he sighed.
After talking to my brother, I went to the children's rooms to get them ready for school. I first went to my daughter's room. She was a heavy slumber, and as for Cayden, I only needed to wake him up once. I ripped the duvet off her. A growl escaped her lips as she turned. I shook her gently until she sat up,
" Mummy!" she squealed, glaring at me. I stared at her without flinching.
" Time to get ready. Go brush your teeth, I'll be with you in a moment."
" Is Dad taking us to school today?" she asked. I shook my head. Ellis has been avoiding the kids since he fell sick. He didn't want them to see him in such a weak state, but they missed him dearly.
" No, sweetheart," I answered.
She sputtered for words but closed her mouth. She sighed and got off bed to go to the bathroom.
After getting the twins ready for school, I went to the bedroom to get ready myself. Ellis was turning and tossing in bed. I quickly got ready and kissed his forehead before exiting the bedroom. I was only going to drop off the kids and collect my laptop from my office so that I could work from home.
I dropped my kids off at school and went to the office. To my surprise, I found David there. He recovered in three days. He was still pale but looked in good health now than I saw him last.
" David," I sighed.
" Love, can we talk?" he asked. I nodded and guided him to my office. I sat on my seat, and he took the chair in front of me. I glared at him, and when our eyes met, I saw regret and shame in his eyes,
" I'm sorry," he started. David paused for a moment," For everything. I don't know where I lost control of my life,"
" Did you always want to use me for my inheritance?" I asked finally.
" No, and yes. When I got into debt and my family refused to help me, I looked at you as the way out of it. However, I honestly cared and loved you," he confessed. I appreciated that he was being honest with me.
" I still love you, and I'd like another chance, but we know that won't happen," he smiled faintly.
" Thank you for coming to help me even though I didn't deserve it. I promise I'll pay back the money,"
" No need to pay me back, David," I said. He shook his head, but I insisted. I heard from Michael that he had been fired, so things would be hard for him. I was afraid he would enter into new debt in an attempt to pay back the money.
" Thank you, Love,"
" Who were those guys?" I asked. Confusion swirled in his eyes for a moment. He sighed and leaned back in the seat. Luis went after the men, but he only caught two of the guys that day. The masked man was gone, and his second in command.
" They are Pacito's men. He's a -"
" I know. A well-known criminal, and now under the council's hold, thanks to Luis. Was he the masked man?" I asked. A shiver went down my spine when I remembered how he almost undressed me. David's eyes flashed with anger for a moment. He knew what I was thinking about.
" The masked man is Pacito's boss. Rumor has it that he is an arms dealer. I'd never seen his face, but he was always in charge of those games," he informed me. I was in thought for a while. That man felt so familiar to me. He musked his scent so well that I didn't know his true identity.
After separating from David, I collected my laptop and the documents I needed. I was on my way to the penthouse when I received a phone call from Jace.
" What's up?" I asked.
" Ellis is not answering his phone, and his mind link is closed. I need to talk to him," he was in a hurry.
" Why? What happened?"
" Rogues are attacking our borders in the East,"
I turned the car instantly and headed there.
" Why are they attacking, and this time?" I asked.
" I don't know. The attack is senseless, but they are quite a lot in number!" he said, " I need to speak to my Alpha, Love,"
" Speak to me. I'm his mate and your Luna," I said, not recognizing my voice.
" What is the plan?" he asked.
" If they are attacking near the east border, it means they are closer to the third packhouse, get the elderly, women, and children in bunkers. Let those who can fight to secure the premises, and no matter what, the rogues shouldn't enter the border!" I ordered. It was silent on his side for a moment before he answered,
" Yes, Luna,"
I reached the border in less than ten minutes. I was taken aback by the number of rogues there. The east border wasn't too vast, so it wasn't heavily guarded like the rest.
I jumped out of the car. I took the first two rogues I saw. Ripping their throats with ease. Unlike us, they were not coordinated and were attacking aimlessly.
I continued the fight against the rogues, killing them.
I got distracted when a howl resounded close by and I turned to check. Two rogues were beating down on a young lycan.
I lunged towards them, and they scattered. The young wolf was whimpering and bleeding badly.
The two rogues charged at me, and I braced myself to fight them, but only one reached me. I tackled it to the ground and ripped it apart with my claws. I looked to see where the other one was. I smiled when I saw Zeyneb holding the other rogues by the neck.
" Hi," she winked at me and broke its neck. Zey let it fall to the ground and went into the fight.
Zeyneb Carter was one of the best fighters I'd seen. She was quick and moved gracefully as she killed the enemies in her human form.
I attended to the bleeding lycan on the floor. She shifted back to human form, whimpering.
" You need to get out of her," I ordered. She nodded and went away.
The rogues were now depleting in numbers. Others ran when they saw their loss. I noticed there was a stronger rogue, fighting harder than any other. It must have been high-ranking. I jumped on him and tackled him to the ground. He pushed me off him, and I hit my back against the nearest tree.
' Shift,' Vee said. I shifted in my form just as the rogue charged at me. One of my perks was that I could shapeshift more quickly than others. He aimed to kill me, but I was faster than him though because of my slender frame. I clawed his stomach and eyes. He fought me, but I didn't let him dominate me. I forced my weight on him and bit down on his neck. I wanted to end him, but he needed to be questioned. Jace understood my intention. He rushed over and injected the rogue with a syringe.
