Love
The machine's beeping in my ears pulled me from the darkness. My eyes opened slowly. I adjusted my eyes to the room I was in, yet it was still blurry. I winced at the throbbing headache I felt.
' You're awake!' Vee beamed. She seemed to have fully recovered her strength and returned to her usual self.
' Vee,'
" I think she's waking up, Cay," I heard my mate's distant voice. It was so good to hear the warmth in his voice, but my vision was still distorted.
" Mommy?" I heard a small voice call me. A small, delicate hand touched me.
" Hi, baby," I smile.
" Hi, Mommy. I'm glad to see you're awake."
As I regained my senses, my gaze landed on my baby boy. I wanted to chuckle and cry in happiness.
My eyes searched around until they found Ellis. He was smiling at me, bent down, and kissed my forehead.
" Oh, baby, you're awake," relief could be heard in his tone.
" Lara, where is she?" I asked, panicked. A gloom flashed in his eyes, and I felt my heart sink.
" She's fine,"
" Lara can't walk," Cayden said, frowning. I narrowed my gaze. My heart was pained. I felt physical pain pierce my heart.
" Can't walk? Ellis, what is he talking about?" I asked, my tone rising a bit. I tried to sit up but couldn't as I was attached to the machine. Also, it was sore.
" Her spinal cord was affected during the accident. Doctor Patel is positive she will walk again," he informed me. Tears built in my eyes. My poor baby must be devastated.
" I want to see her," I said, removing the IVs from my arms. I sat up before Ellis could stop me.
" Mommy, that looked painful," my son winces.
" I'm alright, baby,"
Ellis sighed and kissed my forehead. I wrapped my arms around his body. Tears rolled down my face.
" Don't cry, Mommy," I couldn't help a sob that escaped my lips.
" Tell me everything that happened."
Ellis wiped my tears with his thumbs as he began to tell me everything that happened.
Maleck was dead. I didn't feel bad to hear that news; he deserved what he got. Another alpha was running his pack. However, once his son, Finley, is of age, he will take over the pack. It was discovered that Maleck worked with vampires. There were no traces of their whereabouts. Hopefully, they hid and never returned.
I stayed in Maleck's pack clinic for hours before they brought me here to the city. I have been in the hospital for 48 hours. My body was healing. By the time I woke up, all my injuries had disappeared. Vee did a great job healing me as soon as she recuperated. The doctors were amazed.
Ellis and Cayden took me to Lara's room. She was deep in her thoughts and didn't bother to look up when we entered. Her left fingers were playing with the bracelet around her wrist.
" Hey, Sunny,"
She lifted her gaze at me. They were bleak. I was taken aback a moment.
" Mum, you're okay," she whispered. Her voice was dry. My daughter didn't sound excited, nor did her eyes sparkle as they did. She didn't wear any emotions on her face either. Typically, Solara was the cheerful one—the talkative one with a bubbly personality.
" Yes," I smiled at her.
I hugged her, and she wrapped her hands around me. There was nothing more filling than embracing her.
" I was missing you, Mum,"
" I missed you so much, and I'm sorry about what happened." I apologized, holding her fragile hand in mine, " It wasn't your fault," she glared at her father. I raised my eyebrows, wondering what that was about. I exchanged a glance with Ellis.
'I forgot to mention it; our daughter hates me now,' he said slowly, using the mind link. I felt a profound sense of sadness and loss in my mate. He was in pain at the thought of our daughter hating him. For some reason, Solara put all the blame on Ellis. Ellis stroked her hair gently and kissed her.
After talking to my children and asking them how they were, I went to my room because Solara didn't want to talk any longer and wanted to sleep.
" I'm worried, Ellis," I sighed.
" I know. She doesn't want to talk to anyone other than Cay," he said. He got in bed with me and held me tightly.
Being in my mate's arms, everything that happened hit me. I snuggled into him as tears escaped my eyes. Ellis was patting my back, consoling me.
" And since when does Lara call me Mum? It should be Mummy," I sobbed.
" Let's give her time to adjust, and slowly, she'll come back to us,"
I removed my face from his chest and looked up at him with eyes full of eyes.
" Are you sure?"
" Yes. She's been through trauma after the accident,"
Even though I felt well to leave the hospital, the doctor insisted I stay one more day for further observation. I have already received many visitors.
CC, Melody, and Seumo had just left when Luis and Zeyneb entered. They were both radiating happiness, and it seemed things were going well for them.
" Guess who's engaged!" Zeyneb exclaimed, showing me a diamond ring on her finger. I gasped and grabbed her finger to look at the ring closely. They sure did move fast.
" Wow. That was fast," I glanced at my best friend. He shrugged his shoulders with a grin,
" When you know, you know," he said.
" You guys are so cute. Congratulations on your engagement!" I beamed. I couldn't believe this was happening. Soon, they would get married and start a family of their own. I was filled with happiness.
After being discharged from the hospital, I found our friends waiting for us in the manor. There was a welcome party for me.
To my surprise, Finlay and Axton were there, too. I didn't know how their situation would be after their father's death, but it was good that the Carter family was looking out for them.
We chatted and enjoyed a barbeque. Cayden was glued to my side half the time, worried that I'd disappear again. Solara ignored us and would rather be with her Axton. They got along wonderfully.
Everything was peaceful.
" Todd, you should sing your new song," Lilac said. Michael rolled his eyes but clapped as his mate took center stage.
We clapped after he concluded his song. He had a lovely voice.
I watched my family laugh and dance when I felt his arms around my waist. I heaved a sigh and leaned to my mate. A shiver went down my bones when he kissed my neck and then my shoulder sensually. I was complete. " Fuck, I missed you,"
