While Annette hesitated about whether to pick up the phone, Connor had already snatched her phone, and then he hung up directly.
Annette looked at him. He said seriously, "Annette, listen to me. It's not just your life that was at stake. Our baby's life was threatened, too. So, you mustn't be soft. My baby almost died at the hands of those from the Black Thorn Pack. How can I not make them pay?"
Annette glared at him and said, "I didn't say anything."
Connor curled up the corners of his mouth and thought, 'The way she talks now is no different from before.
I like the way she quarrels with me.
She's the only person in the world who treats me like an ordinary man.'
Annette's phone rang again.
"I'll pick it up." Connor stood up and walked to the ward door, picking up the phone.
Annette looked back when she heard the door close.
She didn't know what Connor would say to Lance.
Yet it didn't matter. It would be best if Connor was the one who took the call.
As soon as the call was connected, Lance blamed, "Ann, why are you so cruel to your sister? What good will it do to you if she goes to prison? Don't you think you've gone too far?"
Connor raised his eyebrows and said, "You shouldn't blame Annette for this. It was your daughter who dug her own grave."
Lance thought, 'Alpha Connor?' He felt nervous and asked, "I didn't know it was you."
"Well, I am the one who holds Jessica responsible."
"Alpha Connor. Ann and Jessica are sisters. It's not exactly appropriate for you to get involved in girls' quarrels."
Connor snorted coldly, "You? Telling me what's appropriate? Too bad that I've always been rude. I can't bear it if my woman is talked about behind her back, not to mention her being hurt."
"Is Jessica ought to get into trouble, simply because Annette found you as her partner?" Lance said angrily.
"You Black Thorn Pack people are so strange. Since you think Jessica is innocent, you might as well get the best lawyer to defend her. I don't believe for a second that people who attempt to kill will ever be acquitted," Connor said casually.
Lance said helplessly, "Jessica didn't know Ann was pregnant. We found out about the mess Ann had made from Austin."
"If that's what you think of Ann, what do you think of yourself when you go out behind your wife's back and force another woman to get pregnant?" Connor said mercilessly.
Lance was speechless when hearing Connor's words.
Lance thought, 'I want to hang up now if I may. But Connor is the only one who can save Jessica right now.
I cannot afford to quarrel with Connor.'
"Mr. Norman, I know you are very upset with me, but I hope you'll spare Jessica, as Ann is my daughter, too."
"How dare you still address Annette as your daughter?" Connor flipped out. He said angrily, "Even friends will call when they know their friends are in the hospital. And what about you? You never expressed your concerns to Annette after what happened to her. Your questioning tone even made me feel that in your eyes, Annette, instead of Jessica, was the one who made the mistake."
"I don't mean to blame Ann, and of course, I care about her. It's just that there are priorities when doing things, and now that Jessica has been taken away by the police, her issue is more urgent. That's why I'm like this," Lance explained hastily.
"Is the life of Annette's baby less urgent than Jessica's issue? Jessica doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as my baby."
Connor hung up the phone madly without giving Lance a chance to explain.
After returning to the ward, Connor told Annette about his conversation with Lance in a low voice, not hiding anything from her.
Annette sneered, "I won't go easy on him. I've had enough of this whole thing with Jessica. This time, I will not back down."
When Annette agreed to Lance's request and decided to go live in the Black Thorn Pack, she was determined to make sure they never got to live happily ever after.
She just didn't expect everything to happen so soon. Jessica had destroyed everything before Annette made a move.
Annette clutched the quilt as she recalled the scenes where the people worked together to torture Sharon.
It had been years since Sharon died. The two who drove Sharon to the wall were the couple who were flawless in others' eyes, and the couple continued to slander Sharon and even used Sharon to blackmail Annette.
Annette never forgot what they did.
She wanted those from the Black Thorn Pack to get what they deserved.
"Connor, can you promise me something?"
"Go ahead."
Annette said firmly, "I know those from the Black Thorn Pack, and I'm sure they won't let Jessica go to jail. They will hire a legal team to fight us to get Jessica back. I hope you make sure Jessica gets the punishment she deserves."
Connor looked at her expression and couldn't help but smile. "That's my girl."
Annette pushed his arms around her away, feeling her face burning.
"Have you forgotten? I won't do anything for nothing."
As he spoke, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
He did not let go of Annette until her breath became rapid.
Annette said angrily, "Connor, what are you doing?"
He smirked, "Getting paid."
Annette turned her head awkwardly and refused to look at him.
Connor grinned and sat down to send Hari a message.
In the afternoon, the news that Annette had been injured in the Black Thorn Pack and was hospitalized went viral.
Upon seeing the news, Roxanne went to the hospital at once.
She was furious and kept cursing Jessica.
In the evening, Connor asked Hari to take Roxanne out for dinner.
However, Zachary came.
When Connor saw Annette smiling at Zachary with her usual tenderness, he felt overwhelmed with jealousy.
Connor sat on the sofa with a cold face, staring at Annette and Zachary.
Zachary took the dinner, which had been kept warm, out of the container and put it on her bedside table.
"Barbara saw the news about you this afternoon and was very worried, so she asked William to make you dinner. Give it a go."
As Zachary spoke, he opened another food container and said, "This is the dinner William made for Connor."
Connor stopped frowning when he heard that there was food for him, too.
"This is delicious! I love it." Annette was very happy.
"William will cook for you again tomorrow if you like it."
Connor was sure Annette would say no.
Because she was not someone who liked to cause others trouble.
To his surprise, she said without hesitation, "Really? Then please thank William for me."
Her words made Connor's eyes wide.
Zachary smiled gently and nodded. "I'll bring it to you tomorrow at noon."
"Great."
Zachary turned around to Connor and said, "Connor, come over and join us."
Connor was angry, and he said stubbornly, "I'm not hungry."
"Then I'll put it away for you, and you can eat it later."
Annette pulled the containers in front of her.
"I'll eat it now that he won't."
