Connor met Zachary downstairs while waiting for Annette.
Zachary was surprised to see Connor.
"Connor, what brings you here?"
"Well, you," Connor said in disdain. "When will you clean up the mess between you and your ex-girlfriend?"
When Zachary heard Connor's words, his face turned slightly red and he said, "I'm sorry, I will handle it as soon as possible. So, you can go."
With that, Zachary walked toward the building.
Connor leaned against the car and looked at Zachary with a casual look as if it had nothing to do with him. He said, "Your personal life is none of my business, but Annette's affairs are my concern. So, for Annette's sake, I advise you not to be too weak."
Zachary stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Connor.
Looking cold and distant, Connor said, "Being kind to the wicked is being cruel to oneself. Since you can perform well in your work, I believe that you are not a fool in other aspects. It is not that you are not incapable of solving the troubles you are facing now, but just that you can't bear to do it. However, do you think you can still be the so-called kind person now? Look at how you have messed up your life because of a woman. Your compromise is not only cruel to yourself, but it also brings shame to your parents and makes your friends suffer with you. You should make a decision, let her pester you or get rid of her for good."
After a moment of silence, Zachary nodded at Connor and said, "Thank you, I'll keep that in mind."
Connor didn't say anything more.
Zachary turned around and went upstairs.
When Annette arrived, Connor had been waiting for almost ten minutes.
As soon as Annette saw Connor, she pulled him upstairs hurriedly.
Connor was not in a hurry. He said, "Take it easy. Zachary is home, so you don't need to hurry."
"How did you know?"
"I saw him."
Annette slowed down and said to Connor, "Thank you."
"Why? I haven't done anything yet."
Annette furrowed her brow and said, "I don't know why. With you here, I feel more confident."
Connor smiled calmly and said, "Well, I'm at your service, anytime."
Annette smiled at him, thinking that she would never find anyone else in the world who could spoil her as Connor did.
They arrived at Joseph's doorway and knocked on the door.
William opened the door.
"William."
William looked helpless and said, "Ann, Mr. Norman, thanks for coming."
Just as Connor and Annette entered the room, Barbara walked to Annette immediately.
With a worried expression, Barbara grabbed Annette's hand and said, "Ann."
"Barbara, everything will be okay. Don't worry."
Annette looked at Jennifer's parents who were arguing with Zachary.
Jennifer's father said, "Jennifer spent four years with you for nothing. So, how do you plan to make it up to her?"
"I didn't fight back, not because I did something wrong. I took good care of her when we were together. She spent all that time having fun and enjoying her life. I tried to satisfy her in every aspect. I hired a maid, I took her shopping, I bought her expensive dresses and I even bought you guys a house. But I'm not a fool. I don't want to do that anymore. You can't take anything more from me. Now, get out of my home!"
Jennifer's father wasn't convinced. "No way. I won't leave without one million dollars as compensation."
Annette was surprised and thought, 'Has Jennifer been pestering Zachary all the time just for money?
'Or was it her parents' idea?'
Barbara stepped forward and said, "You're going too far. The house you're living in now was also bought by Zachary. What makes you think you can ask him for more money?"
"Jennifer gave him her best years in life. You can't deny it even if we are outnumbered now."
Annette was about to help Barbara, but she was stopped by Connor.
Connor said, "Zachary, don't you have something to say? Since they are here to pick on you, then you should get things straight with them once and for all. What do you think?"
"I agree," Jennifer's father thought Connor was helping him and said, "As long as you give me the money, I will pretend that nothing has happened between Jennifer and you."
Annette didn't agree and said, "No way. This is blackmailing!"
"How? Are you going to send me to the police station again?" Jennifer's father looked at Zachary coldly and said, "I didn't ask for a lot of money. My daughter's time was priceless!"
Annette was furious. Before she could say anything, Connor reached out and put his arm around her shoulder, and whispered. "There's nothing you can help. If Zachary doesn't make up his mind to make some changes, no one can help him."
Zachary took a deep breath and said seriously, "You want to talk about money? Alright, let's get into it."
Zachary walked to the sofa. Perhaps because he had made up his mind, he looked like a different person.
"For the four years that I was with Jennifer, I spent at least 500 thousand dollars on branded clothes and bags for her. She made me lose a job with a salary of more than 800 thousand dollars per year. Also, I bought the house you are currently living in. The house cost 800 thousand dollars and its decoration cost 200 thousand dollars. Furthermore, the price of the house has increased, so shouldn't you give me money instead?"
"Why do you include the house? It belongs to us."
Zachary said, his eyes sharp, "Who told you it was yours? I still keep the receipt for the house. And you should not have forgotten the agreement we signed before buying it."
Jennifer's father said nervously, "If you broke up with Jennifer, then the house would belong to her."
"That's right. However, if she broke up with me, then the house would be mine. You added that term yourself at that time."
Jennifer's father looked regretful.
At that time, Zachary said that there was no need to do so.
Jennifer's mother said, "We will not give up the house. You are to blame for the breakup."
"That's right," Jennifer's father shouted. "It was all your fault."
Zachary remained calm and said, "I will sue Jennifer. I can prove that it was Jennifer who insisted on breaking up with me. I am confident that I can regain ownership of the house."
Jennifer's mother burst into tears and shouted, "You are so heartless! Jennifer tried to kill herself because of you. But you are so ruthless to her. How can you guys treat her like that?"
"She tried to kill herself several times. This time, I will not back down. You should leave now. I will take legal action to resolve the matter. If you still think I did something wrong, just sue me. I'll meet you in court at any time."
Jennifer's parents were still not leaving, so Zachary took out his phone.
"If you don't leave now, I will call the police for trespassing. This time, I won't help you."
Jennifer's father glared at Zachary and said, "You bullied Jennifer. And you even want to sue me?"
"It was Jennifer who ruined my life. You should go back and start packing. I will send someone to take the house back soon. If you don't move out, you have to bear the consequences."
