Austin's expression froze. He turned to Annette and asked, "Who told you that?"
Annette dared not to look at Austin. She whispered, "It's just some rumor."
"Ann," Austin's voice became cold, and he asked seriously, "Rumor? From whom"
Dwayne was behind Annette. He said calmly, "That's what Alpha Connor said. If there's any problem, you can go talk to him."
"Shut up!" Austin looked coldly at Dwayne and said, "You're just a butler, and you're from the Blood Moon Pack. This is the Black Thorn Pack. You don't get to speak at the table."
Austin's tone upset Annette. She stood up and slammed the table. "Enough! Do you people of the Black Thorn Pack enjoy humiliating others? Listen up, Dwayne is with me, and no one is going to talk to him in that tone again!"
Austin looked up at Annette with anger in his eyes.
Annette stared at him with a stubborn face.
Dwayne was defending her, so she would speak up for Dwayne.
Austin meant to blame her when he reprimanded Dwayne.
The two were at a stalemate, and Jessica slowly came down the stairs.
She looked at Annette with disdain on her face and said with contempt, "Annette, my home was peaceful, but you managed to turn it into a mess in just one day. That's impressive."
Annette glanced at her and said, "Thanks for the compliment."
Austen said coldly, "You think it's a compliment?"
Annette asked, "Since this disgusting family can become the peaceful and harmonious one she is talking about, why can't I think she is praising me? Or do you think I should fight with the person who humiliated me?"
Jessica witnessed how Annette fought before, so she stepped back.
"What do you want to do? Don't think that I'm afraid of you."
Lance shook his head and shouted, "Enough. Haven't you had enough of this?"
Annette sat down, ignoring Lance's emotions.
"I can't eat. If you have something to say, just say it, and don't waste everyone's time."
Lance calmed himself down and said to Jessica, "Sit down."
Jessica walked over and sat down across from Leslie.
Lance said, "Now that Ann has returned, I plan to hold a press conference to welcome her as a member of the Fisher family."
"I object."
"I do not agree."
They all disagreed.
Lance felt surprised, then Leslie shouted, "I let you bring her back, but that's my bottom line. Don't make me furious, or I'll drive you out of the pack with her."
Jessica was also angry that she stomped her feet and screamed, "Exactly! How can she be the same as me? She doesn't deserve to share the property of our pack!"
Lance looked at Annette, suppressing his anger as he asked, "I can understand if others don't agree, but why do you oppose it? Do you not know that accepting you requires a great deal of courage?"
"Then, you might as well keep your courage to yourself. I don't need it." Annette was unaffected by his self-indulgence and wondered what was wrong with him.
Lance frowned and said, "Annette, don't push it."
"I'm already 22 years old. And now you recognize me as your family. Don't you think this is ridiculous? When Sharon had no other choice but to give me to you, what did you say?"
Lance lowered his eyes and remained silent.
Annette recalled the past and felt bitter in her heart. She spoke with a hoarse voice, "You said I was just a bastard and that you didn't have a daughter like me. Then, you asked us to get lost."
"It's all in the past. Are you going to hold a grudge against me for my impulsive words for the rest of your life?"
"I am. I can't forget the pain you caused me so easily unless Sharon can be resurrected!"
Lance stared at Annette. Did she have to mention the past?
After Annette finished speaking, she stood up and looked toward Leslie and Jessica.
"Don't worry, it's okay if you don't want to accept me. I also have no desire to become family with you."
Annette turned and walked away from the dining table and said to Dwayne as she went upstairs, "Dwayne, I'm going to eat in my room."
"Okay, Luna."
Soon, Dwayne brought lunch upstairs.
After putting it on the table, Dwayne was ready to leave.
Annette said, "Dwayne, I need you to help me with two things."
"Of course, Luna."
"Can you return the dresses I bought today?"
"Return them?" Dwayne was confused.
Annette nodded and said, "I just wanted Leslie to spend money and get angry. Now that I've achieved my goal, you can return the clothes and put the refunded money into my bank card."
Annette took a card and handed it to Dwayne.
Dwayne took it and nodded, "Okay. What's the other thing?"
Annette hesitated and said, "I hope you can keep what happened downstairs a secret and don't tell Connor about it."
Dwayne was puzzled.
Annette explained apologetically, "I'm afraid Connor might misunderstand and think I refused the Black Thorn Pack for his sake. I refused because I hate people from the pack."
Dwayne couldn't help but laugh and said, "Alright, got it. I'll leave now. If you need me later, just give me a call."
Ann nodded.
After leaving the room, Dwayne couldn't help but smile. Luna thought as he expected.
It seemed that Alpha Connor's concern was unnecessary because Annette cared about him.
After eating, Annette didn't want to leave the room.
Fortunately, Connor told Lance before he brought her here that she would only be staying for seven days.
If she stayed for too long, she would probably go crazy.
Annette's phone rang.
It was Jessica.
Annette answered the phone and said in an aggressive tone, "What do you want to say now?"
"Annette, there's something I'm quite curious about and I'd like to ask for your advice."
Annette frowned when she heard Jessica's strained voice.
What did Jessica want to do?
"Jessica, stop trying to trick me."
"I dare not. You have so many men as your backers."
It was the softest tone Jessica had ever spoken in since they had met.
Therefore, Annette knew that something was wrong with Jessica.
And she was right. Jessica asked again, "I want to know how you manage to get those men to willingly speak up for you."
"You lunatic."
As Annette was about to hang up the phone, she heard Jessica say, "One, Alpha Connor is fascinated with you, and two, Austin is obsessed with you. How charming you are!"
Annette then understood that Jessica had learned something.
Conor once said that with Jessica's mind, she would not keep quiet if she got the goods on someone.
"If Alpha Connor knew that you and Austin were close, not as biological siblings, what would he think?"
Annette sneered.
Jessica said unhappily, "Annette, aren't you worried? I hold something that can make you lose everything you have. No man can accept his wife's infidelity."
Annette said seriously, "You make a good point. You should go and complain to Connor. I'm curious to see if he'll listen to you."
Jessica fumed.
"As for the answer to your question, it's super simple. You just need a beautiful mother to give you a face that doesn't require plastic surgery. But I guess you'll never understand it."
Annette hung up after she finished speaking.
