Angela's cab arrived at Doris's place. She drew a deep breath, it looked so different from the last time she visited. Back then when she was happy…knowing that her family was healthy and safe. Now she feels like she's in the middle of a big ocean with no help in sight. No hope for tomorrow. Jace was like the pillar of her support, physically, emotionally and mentally. She closed her eyes to seal the tears from falling freely down her cheeks. The twins moved their heads from her shoulders. They woke up and were excited to see that they were finally at their supposed destination after a long journey filled with chaos and trauma. “We stopped?” Lia asked with a sparkle of excitement in her green eyes looking out of the window, her gaze returned to Angela's pale face. Angela forced a smile at her. “Yes honey. We've arrived at Aunty Doris's place”. “Really?” Liya snapped loudly in excitement, too. Angela nodded at her. “Yeahhhhh”. The kids screamed in excitement, forgetting the traumatic experience they had just a few hours ago. Kids… Angela thought. She was at least thankful they were not stuck with the trauma. The driver Damon gave to them opened the car door. “Thanks”. Angela muttered and emerged from the cab, followed by the twins, and then the van pulled up behind, carrying their belongings. She asked the twins to wait and walked over to the Van to help the men get their belongings out. Doris, who had been watching anxiously from the window, sighted them. “Oh my goodness they are here!” She informed her sister happily. Rachel put down her phone and gazed out of the window with a smile. A little more excited to meet them ever since Doris told her about Jace. Unable to see any of them with the description that matched Jace, she wondered if he was still waiting inside the car. Although Doris strictly warned her against flirting with him since she's two years older, she was just excited to see someone close to her age. “Fast! Microwave the food for the kids”. Doris instructed and rushed out to greet them, a look of relief and joy on her face. Angela was still getting their stuff out of the van when she saw Doris running towards them. She smiled with relief. “Oh Angela! Thank goodness you are all safe!” Doris exclaimed, enveloping the twins in a warm hug. The twins, who had been quiet until then, burst into smiles as they hugged Doris back. “Aunty Doris!” they chimed in unison. “Oh my babies, I miss you too, oh my goodness you all looked so worn out”. She snapped checking the girls out then proceeded to hug Angela too. “I was so worried about you all”. She said happily, then pulled away from the hug, but still holding her friend's ice-cold hands. “Come on, come inside, leave the luggage I will take care of it. You must be exhausted.” Angela smiled wearily, grateful for the warm welcome. “We have a lot to tell you, Aunt Doris”. The twins interrupted their interaction. Doris turned to them. “Of Course my sweet pies. I want to hear all about your trip to my place. But you look tired, you have to eat first. I made your favorite Pizza, and it's ready and served”. The girls made excited noises and ran towards the house. There Rachel was waiting for them with a broad smile. Doris smiled at them, then she turned to Angela. She couldn't help but notice the haunted look in Angela's eyes. “Oh, Angela, I was so worried about you! I've been frantic with fear. What happened?” Angela took a deep breath, trying to calm down, but she couldn't help to burst into tears. Doris's expression turned into shock and awe at the same time. “Angela”. She gasped. Angela kept crying… Doris was confused about her sudden breakdown, but she gave her time to put herself together. She hugged her, without saying a word. The drivers gave her a sign that they were about to leave, and she nodded at them. When they drove off, Angela cried even harder, squeezing Doris so hard, she never saw her that broken. “Angela…what happened? Please say something”. Doris pleaded. Angela pulled out of the hug, unable to look at Doris in the eyes, her body was shaking so much. “Please…don't let the kids see me like this”. She begged, her eyes closed, tearing up even more. Doris turned her sad eyes towards her house. The door was shut, and then she saw Rachel at the window wearing a sympathetic look on her face watching them. She must have been there long enough to know the content of their condition. “Close the windows”. Doris mouthed almost inaudibly. Rachel was good at lip-reading, she grabbed the words and nodded at Doris. Quickly, she pulled the curtain to prevent the twins from seeing Angela's condition. “This is delicious, let's go give some to Angela!” Lia suddenly shouted, attracting her attention to the twins. She quickly reached out to stop the hyperactive kid. “No…not yet honey…first you and your sister eat your Pizza. Angela is busy right now, having adult time with Aunty Doris. She will join us later, okay?” The twins exchanged glances then shrugged. “Okay.” They chorused. Rachel sighed, relieved that they were easy to convince. With a gentle touch, Doris guided Angela to the wooden bench in front of her family's farm house, where Angela collapsed like a rag doll, her body sagging with exhaustion. “It's okay Angela, you can talk now, Racheal is keeping an eye on the kids”. Then she remembered Jace. She looked around in alert. "Where's Jace? I thought he was coming too…I already told …my…” She paused, seeing Angela's face crumpled, and she immediately burst into tears. “H-he's gone, Doris,” she sobbed, her body shaking with grief. Doris' eyes widened in shock. “What do you mean gone? What the hell happened?” She asked with a hint of fear in her. “Jace is gone forever, my only brother is …..is…dead… I saw him with my own eyes…. I ….am…. I…am worthless… I couldn't protect… Jace is gone… Jace is gone…he is…gone…gone…gone…” Doris hugged her immediately, seeing she was about to lose her mind. “Why did I ever agree to Montero's contract?I killed my brother”. She cried into Doris's chest, who held her tightly in there. “Shhh…you didn't”. Doris whispered, her own eyes brimming with tears. “Why!” Angela yelled in agony. “Why did this happen? Why Jace!” She kept mourning. Doris breaks down this time, trying to keep Angela from attracting the twin's attention with her cries. “I am so sorry, Angela…I am so sorry about Jace. I'm so sorry you've had to go through all this." She kissed Angela's head. “What the heck happened?” She thought aloud.
