Damon led Angela out of the room, through a maze of corridors and into a waiting car. Angela's heart raced with a mixture of joy as her mind fixed on the kid's safety, then of sadness as she thought of Jace. She couldn't believe he was gone, couldn't bear the thought of a world without him. Her heart was shattered, she felt so weak and unbelievably stressed. Finally, they arrived at a small safe house on the outskirts of the city. Angela's heart leapt as she saw her twins, their little wet faces lighting up with smiles, relief, and hope. “Mommy!” They chimed in unison, crying out their hearts. She gasped hotly and rushed to them, sweeping them into her arms. “I'm so sorry, my babies,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Mommy was so scared. But I'm here now, and I'll never let you go again.” The twins squealed with delight, wrapping their small arms around her neck. She knelt down, hugging them tightly, her eyes welled up with tears as she inhaled their sweet scent, feeling their warm bodies against hers. She had thought she might never hold them again, never feel their loving embrace. “My babies, my precious babies,” she whispered, tears of joy streaming down her face. The fact that they called her Mommy and not Angela, made her so emotional. She held them close and kissed them, her heart full of gratitude for their safety. Liya and Lia's cries grew louder, their words tumbling out in a torrent of fear and relief. “We were so scared, Mommy…we thought we'd never see you again…the bad men were so mean…” Angela's eyes welled up with tears as she listened to the twins' terrified whispers. She felt a surge of anger and guilt, knowing she hadn't been able to protect them and Jace. Now he is…she sobbed loudly and hugged the twins tighter. “I am sorry for putting you all through this.” She whispered. Damon watched, then a text beeped on his phone notification. He glanced towards them. “I'm sorry to interrupt such a moment, Angela. But we can't stay here for long. We need to get you and the twins to a safe place, somewhere Antonio can't find you.” Angela nodded, then dried her tears and that of the twins. “Where is Uncle Jace?” Lia asked, searching around. Liya started crying. “Uncle Jace!” Angela's heart skipped a beat as she hesitated, unsure of how to break the news to her twins. “Uncle Jace…he didn't make it, sweethearts,” she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. Liya and Lia's tears paused, their faces looking up at her with confusion and disbelief. “What do you mean, Mommy?” Liya asked, her voice trembling. Angela took a deep breath and pressed her lips, trying to find the words to explain. “It's okay, you didn't have to tell them all that.” Damon cuts in. Angela shook her head in grief, then held the twins' hands to address them. “Uncle Jace was hurt badly, and he didn't survive. He's gone, my love.” The twins misunderstood the whole thing. Lia's face crumpled, her body shaking with new sobs. “No! Uncle Jace can't be gone! He promised to play with us again! Where did he go?” Liya's eyes filled with tears, her voice barely audible. “Why did he leave us? Will he come back?” Angela's heart broke, her tears falling as she held her twins close. “I have no idea for now. Uncle Jace was a hero, and he loved us all so much. We'll always remember him, and keep him in our hearts. Okay?” They nodded, still sobbing. Angela led them into the car. “Wait for me here, I promise I will be back.” The twins looked nervous but nodded. The fear in their eyes were understandable after their experience. Angela faced them with a reassuring smile and walked back to Damon with a tough expression on her face. “Is there a problem?” “Take me to see Jace, I had to say …….good…..bye.” She covered her mouth, trying to stay strong. Damon hesitated, looking at her uncertainty. He stepped forward, his voice softening. “Angela, I don't know if that's a good idea. You've been through a lot already…” Angela's eyes flashed at him, with a frown. “He is my brother, please, I need to see him. I need to say goodbye. Please, just let me see him.” Damon nodded and sighed, thrusting his hands into his pockets. “Okay, Angela. But prepare yourself. It's not…this will be difficult.” Angela composed herself as Antonio led her to a small room. Inside, she saw a figure covered in a sheet, lying on a table. Her eyes widened in horror as she gazed upon Jace's lifeless body covered. Her mind refused to accept the reality before her, and her body trembled with anguish. She felt as if she'd been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her lungs. Her heart suddenly started beating so fast she thought she would die in a blink of an eye. Slowly with heavy legs, she approached the table, tears falling freely down her cheeks. Her body was shaking as she stood in front of the covered body. Slowly, with trembling fingers she lifted the sheet, and her eyes fell on Jace's pale face. His eyes were closed, his features serene, but Angela could see the pain and suffering etched on his face. She felt a sob rise in her throat as she reached out to touch his cold cheek. A primal scream erupted from her throat, a raw, anguished wail that echoed through the room. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of pain, unable to escape the crushing weight of her grief. Her vision blurred as tears streamed down her face, her hands reaching out to touch Jace's face again, to shake him awake, to beg him to come back to her. But deep down, she knew it was futile. Her brother, her rock, her protector, was gone. The pain and agony that gripped her heart was unlike anything she has ever experienced, not even when she lost her mother. It was as if a part of her had been ripped away, leaving a gaping hole that could never be filled. She felt lost, alone, and adrift in a world that no longer made sense. At the thought of him taking his last breath, hoping she could save him, made her feel guilty. “Jace!” She screamed loudly and collapsed beside Jace's body, her arms wrapping around him in a desperate embrace. She held him close, as if she could bring him back to life, her tears soaking into his cold skin. “Why did you leave me, Jace? I am sorry for not being a good sister, I couldn't protect you, it's my fault for getting into Montero's business, this is what I was afraid of…why … .why did this happen!” she wailed, her voice cracking with pain. She rocked back and forth, holding him tight, her mind reeling with memories of their past, of the laughter they shared, the adventures they had, the secrets they kept. Her body shook with sobs, her heart heavy with grief, as she begged him to come back to her, to forgive her for not being able to save him. Damon stepped forward and placed a hand of comfort on her shoulder. “Angela… I understand your pain, but he is a corpse now, you should …” He paused, seeing that she would not listen to anything he had to say. As Angela continued to hold Jace's lifeless body, she knew that she would never be the same again, that a part of her had died with him. The pain was too much to bear, the loss too great to comprehend. “Jace why!” She cried and held him more tightly for what felt like an eternity, her tears exhausting her, her body numb with grief. Finally, she lay down beside him, her head on his chest, her arms still wrapped around him. “Forgive me, Jace, Forgive me.” Eventually, she was gently pulled away from Jace's body, her arms unwrapped from around him. She stood up and turned to see Damon's fake somber face, his eyes filled with compassion. He hugged her, and she had another breakdown in his embrace. She buried her face in his chest, her body shaking with sobs. “It's time to say goodbye, Angela,” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
