Doris's family bakery, "Sweet Delights," is a cozy and welcoming spot, filled with the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked goods. The walls of the place were painted a warm yellow, and the floors were made of gleaming hardwood. The bakery was adorned with vintage baking utensils and colorful ceramic tiles, adding a touch of charm to the space. The bakery was filled with the sweet scent of freshly baked bread, and the sound of sizzling pizzas filled the air. Her mother was a known baker if not the best in their small town and her three kids including Doris, of course, took over her incredible skills. No wonder the twins were so excited to have a taste of her Pizza again. In the kitchen, Doris was busily preparing pizzas, her face flushed with excitement. She was wearing a flour-dusted apron and a bright smile, her curly auburn hair tied back in a ponytail. Her younger sister Rachael was there to help. She knew little about Angela apart from Angela was an old friend of Doris. It's been long they met, so she was also in expectation to see her again. Their kitchen was warm and inviting, with a large wooden table in the center, covered in flour, yeast, and various toppings. As she spread the sauce and cheese on the dough, she thought about how much the twins loved her pizzas. Their interaction during the last phone call from Angela made her smile. She loves baking, but for those sweethearts she would do more than just baking. She had a flack back the last time she had visited their, how they devoured her famous pepperoni and cheese pizza, she made for them. Their tiny appreciation and thanks, will forever live in her mind. She smiled at the scene replaying in her head. Angela is indeed a good parent and raised them to be little adorable angels. However, her mind was also filled with concern for Angela. She suddenly wore a long face she worried about her Angela's well-being. She knew that Angela had been through a lot, letting go of Antonio. Then the news of him and his ex being back together, that news must have shattered Angela, she thought and sighed deeply. Anyway she is on her way to her place, at least that will be a relief. She will take good care of them until Angela is strong enough to move out. “What is on your mind, spacing out in the middle of your baking, not so professional mom would say”. Rachael cuts into her thoughts and they both laughed. Doris had the pizzas spread out on a long counter topped with assortment ingredients. “That's a lot of cheese”. Rachael said seeing the ingredients for the pizza toppings: juicy tomatoes, crispy pepperoni, and fragrant fresh basil, melted mozzarella cheese, a lot of cheese. “The kids love it that way”. Doris smiled. “The kids?” Rachael asked curiously. “The twins, remember Angela's sister Kerry, she is a single mother of two twin girls, but they are like Angela's babies…she is the one taking care of them”. “Oh I see…so you are making the Pizza just for them?” Rachael asked, preheating the oven so it can get ready to bake the pizzas. “Yup, Angela is not really a Pizza lover”. Kerry replied, washing her hand in a vintage tap. “Wow! I thought everyone likes pizzas”. Rachael snapped. “Not Angela”. She giggled and shook her head as she recalled a scene of Angela forcing herself to finish a slice. “Rachael can you help me get the room ready for them, also she had a teenage brother, Jace". Rachael eyes opened widely, glistening with excitement. “Really, a boy my age?” Doris dimmed her eyes, thoughtful calculating the age gap. “Well in the same age bracket, you are older”. “I don't think that's an issue”. She said with a grin. “Whatever you are thinking stop thinking it” Doris snapped at her. Rachael laughed and pull off the kitchen apron. “I will get the rooms ready”. She added before leaving. Doris shook her head and continued working on her baking, humming a happy tune. She brought out her phone and texted Angela, her eyes shining with anticipation. She couldn't wait to welcome Angela and the twins, and have them taste delicious pizzas she had made especially for them. Outside, the sun was shining, casting a warm glow over the bakery. The streets of the small town were quiet, with a few people strolling by, enjoying the peaceful afternoon. The atmosphere was serene, with a sense of joy and contentment filling the air. Many hours gone. Everything was set. The bakery, once filled with the warm aroma of freshly baked pizzas and the sound of sizzling crusts, was now quiet and still. Doris had the pizzas, perfectly cooked and topped with a medley of colorful ingredients, lay on the table, waiting to be devoured. However, she is yet to receive a reply from the text she sent to Angela. Not a call from her or her brother Jace either. All her excitement and anticipation turned to worry and concern. She glanced at her phone for what felt like the hundredth time, her eyes scanning the screen for a message or call from Angela. But there was nothing. No update, no word, no sign of life. Doris's troubled mind began to race with worst-case scenarios, her imagination running wild with thoughts of accidents, delays, and unforeseen circumstances. Her heart starting pounding as she became anxious. “This is so unlike Angela, what could have happened?”
