NOSTALGIA

Ch. 190 / 312 Apr 03, 2026

“On my way home, we will talk later, love you”. Angela replied and sent the message to Antonio. She sighed deeply after delivering the message, staring at the window deep in thought. As the cab lurched to a stop, Angela gasped and blinked absentmindedly then slowly she looked out of the window. They have arrived at her address. She sighed and stood to her feet, her body heavy with exhaustion and sadness. She paid the cab driver and made her way out of the cab, her eyes fixed into space, her mind consumed by thoughts of what would happen next. She entered the elevator to the last floor, which is a penthouse, brain calculating fast as she pressed the button for the penthouse floor. She knew for sure that Antonio must have contacted her little brother Jace and thought of a good lie to tell. As the elevator rose, she felt her tummy rumble not of hunger but fear, all her plans seemed perfect but the idea of leaving Antonio scares her more than she ever imagined. When the doors slid open, Angela walked to the door of her apartment and opened it. “Angela's home!” Lia shouted happily, dropping her dolls and running towards her aunt. “Angela!” Liya snapped loudly and joined her twin. Angela forced a smile. The twins' laughter filled the room, and for a moment, Angela felt her heart lift with joy. She knelt down to embrace the twins, savoring their warmth. Jace heard their giggles and came out of his bedroom. “Antonio..” “I know..” Angela cuts in, handing the twins the snacks she bought them. “So?” Jace replied with a facial expression asking more questions. Angela straightened up and made to walk into her bedroom. “If there's something wrong, why not discuss it with him, he was really worried?” Jace asked again, hands folded. Angela opened her mouth but nothing came out of it. “We spoke with uncle Charming on the phone, he promised to come this evening and take us out for a movie!” Liya announced, eating her snacks childishly. Angela slowly smiled at her then went into her bedroom, the door slammed after her loudly. It gave the kids a jumpstart. Jace was dumbfounded and confused still in the same position with his hands folded. Meanwhile, Liya was looking broken thinking she somehow upset Angela. “Did I say anything wrong?” She sobbed and looked at Jace questionably. He snapped out of his thoughts and smiled at his niece. “Of Course not, she is just exhausted, go play with Lia”. Liya nodded and returned to her sister. Jace walked to Angela's door, wanted to knock, but he pulled away, and changed his mind. “She probably won't like a conversation now, I guess”. He said to himself with a sigh and settled down on the couch in the living room. ***** Antonio sank onto the edge of his bed, staring at his phone, it was Angela's message. Even if she replied with a text message, he can't stop feeling that something's wrong. Why is she ignoring his calls, why didn't she call…why text? Is she avoiding hearing his voice? He sat in silence for a moment, his hands clasped together in front of him, his eyes staring blankly at the floor. A reminder notification flashed across his phone. The meeting at the Lover's bridge. He knew he had to prepare for the meeting, but the prospect filled him with dread. With a deep sigh, he rose to his feet, his movements sluggish, and slowly to the shower, his mind still distracted and anxious. Few minutes later he came out with a towel. He walked back to the bed double-checking his phone, hoping for Angela’s call but found none. The words of the unknown caller rang in his head. “Also put on something nice…something you would wear to a date night, a white suit this time don't forget to pick your size, this time”. How weird can that be? He thought, however he went ahead to get himself ready for the meeting. Few minutes later, Antonio stepped out of his room. He wore a bespoke suit in a rich navy hue, expertly tailored to fit his tall and athletic frame. He paired the suit with a crisp white dress shirt, the buttons fastened neatly up to the collar. His shoes were handcrafted Italian leather oxfords, shone with a mirror-like finish, their pointed toes adding a touch of sleek elegance to his look. His stylist complemented the ensemble with a classic wristwatch, its gold casing and intricately designed face speaking to an appreciation for good quality. As he emerged from the grand entrance of the Montero mansion, the servants in a queue across the hallway bowed immediately at his sight. One of his trusted drivers, a middle-aged man named Juan, stood ready and waiting, his posture straight and professional. “Good evening young master Antonio”. Antonio nodded. Juan quickly opened the door to the sleek black sedan, its polished surface gleaming in the sun. Antonio stepped inside, his movements calm and cold, as if to hide the turbulence brewing inside him. His driver noticed his cold presence; it was very different from the sunshine version they witnessed before. Antonio settled into the back seat while Juan closed the door behind him with a soft click, the interior of the car enveloping him in a cocoon of refined luxury. Juan, who had been a loyal employee of the Montero family for years, smoothly navigated the car through the estate's winding driveway, through the lush greenery of the manicured gardens. Juan drove the car onto the main road, his gaze focused on the route In Front of him, his every move aimed at ensuring Antonio's comfort and safety. He knew Antonio was in a very bad mood and could be triggered by any little mistake. “Where are we going, young master Antonio?” Antonio blinked absentmindedly and looked up at him through the front mirror. “Lover's bridge”. He muttered. “Okay boss”. The car glided through the streets, as Juan guided its wheels towards the said destination. As they got closer to the meeting location, Antonio's heart beat faster with each passing second. He peered out of the tinted windows, his eyes scanning the familiar surroundings, feeling a sense of nostalgia. He tried not to think about her, knowing it won't end well. His mind has been set up to move on and happily with Angela. What's the point of thinking of her? Soon they reached the end of the road, the car came to a stop at the parking lot. Antonio felt his stomach as he took in the sight, his nerves on edge. He took out his phone and dialed the number, but the stranger wasn't picking up. He drew a deep breath, his mind racing. Juan got down from the car and opened the door for him. “Here we are, Master Antonio,” he said.
