Chapter 82

Ch. 82 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

Malcolm felt alone all these years before the day Marilyn suddenly appeared. Marilyn lit the hope of his life. Once again, he felt life was bright and beautiful.

Therefore, this time, he would not stand aside miserably, seeing the other man happily being with Marilyn.

He wanted to tell Marilyn about his feelings. He hoped they would have a happy ending.

Marilyn selected a lot of things, from the daily necessities to the food.

When it was time to pay, Malcolm stopped her and swiped his card.

Marilyn signed. Then she checked the receipt and was about to transfer the money to Malcolm.

Malcolm held the shopping bags in both hands. The sharp-eyed man noted what Marilyn was doing. He frowned and said, "Lynn, Arturo and you have the employee benefit. Our company will cover all these expenses. You don't have to transfer the money to me."

Marilyn glanced at him and thought it was too good to be true.

She quickly shook her head, "Mr. Lowe, these are some groceries. The employee benefit written on my contract doesn't cover these expenses."

Marilyn lowered her head and transferred the money to Malcolm.

Malcolm's face fell when he heard the notification on his phone.

On their way back, neither of them said a word.

Marilyn knew that Malcolm was upset.

However, she was a proud and principled woman. She didn't want to be helped when she could handle it by herself.

She adhered to this principle since she was a kid.

Even though the Chambers family hadn't given her a penny after she went to university, Marilyn gritted her teeth and still made it.

With the scholarship and the money she earned from her part-time jobs, she lived frugally and scraped up enough money to finish her university studies.

In college, while others were busy dating and dressing up, she was busy with work to make money.

Marilyn was one of the most beautiful girls in the university. At that time, many boys were after her. But she was too busy to pay any attention to them.

She was always hurried on the road, rushing back and forth between several jobs.

However, she did not feel tired at all and always wore her dazzling smile.

Malcolm carried the bags and insisted on dropping Marilyn home.

Marilyn had no way but to follow him resignedly.

She shouted in her mind, "What the hell's wrong with him?"

Marilyn lived in the small apartment that Malcolm had asked the company to buy back then. It was for the employees of the branch company to live in.

Tonight was Malcolm's first time coming over. He looked at this one-bed flat and frowned. "It is too small," he thought.

Marilyn glanced at Malcolm, but she could not drive him away. "Thank you, Mr. Lowe. Just put the bags on the table first. I'll get you a cup of coffee."

Marilyn did not understand what Malcolm wanted to do.

It was said that one's faults are not written on their foreheads. She should be careful!

"Alright!" Malcolm nodded. His voice was deep and mellow.

He put the things on the table and looked at the beauty in the kitchen who was making coffee. He smiled slyly, "Lynn, I'm hungry."

Marilyn was grinding coffee beans. Her hand trembled slightly as she heard Malcolm.

"Why did he say that to me? I'm not his maid. Why did he ask me for food?" Marilyn thought angrily.

She calmed herself down and said to Malcolm, "Mr. Lowe, what would you like to eat? I can order some takeout for you."

Malcolm frowned and shook his head. "I don't like takeout!"

Marilyn was dumbfounded. "Was he asking me to cook for him?"

Marilyn smiled and asked patiently, "Then what would you like to eat, Mr. Lowe?"

"Come to my home at midnight and ask me for food? He has thick skin!" thought she angrily.

Malcolm looked at her with a rare charming smile on his handsome face. "I'd love to eat whatever you cook."

Marilyn cursed in her mind, "How about an empty plate?"

She caught a glimpse of the bags on the table. "No, those are my favorite food. And Dominic also likes it."

Then she saw the flour bag. She said with a big bright smile, "Alright, I'll make you ravioli."

It would not take her long even though she needed to knead the dough from the beginning. She didn't eat much food at the banquet tonight. That was why she bought some cheese. She planned to make ravioli for herself.

"Alright!" Malcolm did not expect that she would agree to make him food.

He was indeed hungry. He had never been full at every banquet.

Marilyn brought the coffee to Malcolm, picked up the flour on the table, and walked back to the kitchen.

Suddenly, Marilyn's phone rang. It was her mom. Marilyn smiled happily, "Mom!"

"Lynn, Dominic bought the ticket for the day after tomorrow. Remember to pick him up at the airport."

"Okay, I'll be there on time."

"Alright, go home early when the banquet is over."

"Mom, I'm already home. Don't worry."

"That's good. Don't stay up late. I have to go."

The loving voice of her mom cheered Marilyn up.

She quickly kneaded the dough and skillfully cut it into beautiful pieces.

Malcolm stared at her with a happy smile.

He wanted to walk over and tell her, "Lynn, I'm Malcolm, your Malcolm. Come home with me!"

He wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

However, Malcolm knew that he could not be anxious. She had already grown up, and he should win her heart back bit by bit.

"Julian is right. Now she is Marilyn, not Carolyn who I met in our childhood."

Malcolm thought and smiled happily. In this world, only Carolyn could make him smile so happily.

Marilyn nailed the meal in less than forty minutes.

The home-cooked ravioli was the best, tasty and healthy. Marilyn liked to cook it when she had time.

Her mom and three kids also liked it a lot.

Marilyn brought over two plates of ravioli and two kinds of sauce with a tray.

Malcolm hurriedly moved the things off the table to make room.

Marilyn said with a sense of accomplishment, "Mr. Lowe, try some. I made you spinach ricotta ravioli. I wonder if you like it."

She liked pecorino cheese. But in case Malcolm didn't like this flavor, she only made the ricotta ones.

Malcolm looked at the beautiful cuisine and smiled, "Lynn, this is the first time I've eaten spinach ricotta ravioli."

Home-cooked meals rarely appeared in the banquet. And the top restaurants were not good at the simple but beautiful dishes. He had never tried them.

"First time?" Marilyn was quite surprised. But soon she figured out, "Right. The rich will only eat those fancy food.

However, the simple food was my favorite."

"Yes!" Malcolm nodded as he picked up one, dipped it in sauce, and took a bite. The cheese fragrance was accompanied by the unique taste of spinach. It was really delicious.
