Margie angrily roared, "Do we have any other choice? This world is full of deception. We are either the bad guys or the victims. And we are the victims this time.
"But we must not give away our company. Your father and I have put so much effort into it, and we are attached to it. We must have it in our own hands."
Baron's expression darkened, and he said firmly, "Mom, I know what you mean. If we lose the company, we will have nothing. So, we must find out whether this woman is Marilyn."
There, Baron glanced in Sergio's direction and saw that they were in the middle of a routine video conference. Baron whispered, "Mom, are you sure she is Marilyn Chambers?"
Although he lived under the same roof as Marilyn, Baron didn't know much about Marilyn. Marilyn often kept her head down, and it annoyed Baron to see her like that.
Margie glared at Baron and lowered her voice. "I wasn't sure before, but she is allergic to mango. Her skin has been very sensitive since childhood and fairer than average. Plus, her allergy comes and goes quickly. Even the doctors said that her body is very special, so I conclude that she is the Marilyn we know."
Hearing this, Baron looked at Malcolm's office strangely. They were in a meeting. He would manage to talk to Malcolm when they came out of the meeting.
Baron said, "Mom, take Dad somewhere else to take a rest. I must see Malcolm today. He can't buy our company."
Margie still looked worried. She said, "Baron, I am so anxious. The shareholders have heard that Malcolm is going to buy our company and are all agitated.
"I fear they will betray us. At that time, we will not be able to control the situation."
Malcolm was the famous business genius in Fielddell, and everyone wanted a piece of the action. Moreover, if they worked for Malcolm, it could do them no harm but good.
Baron snorted, "Mom, don't worry! We have goods on those old geezers. They won't be a threat to us."
Baron said this to reassure himself and his mother. After all, sometimes, people would do anything for money.
Cameron sat there and said nothing.
Margie glanced at him and said nothing either.
Margie knew that her company had been losing money over the past few years. And she had been trying to improve the situation.
Now, the last thing that Margie wanted was for the shareholders to find out about this matter. Once they did, she would lose her company for sure.
What timing.
Time ticked by. When Marilyn came back with Alaina after the meeting, she saw that Margie and the others were still there.
Like before, Marilyn ignored them and went straight to her office.
Before she could enter her office, Baron's voice came from behind her. "Marilyn, do you have to be so cruel?"
Marilyn stopped in her tracks, and Alaina stopped too.
Marilyn slowly turned around and had Alaina go in first.
Her gaze fell on Baron's terrifyingly gloomy and handsome face.
It seemed that they were certain she was Marilyn now, but she could not admit it for the time being.
After all, they didn't feel guilty about what had happened back then, and they had become even worse.
Everyone loved money. Moreover, the Chambers family was now facing a major crisis. Naturally, they would not let go of any chance to save themselves.
Marilyn looked at Baron, her red lips curling up into a sneer. "Show me proof that I am Marilyn Chambers."
The Chambers hated her, so no picture was taken of her when she was little.
Because they didn't care about Marilyn, Marilyn bet that they didn't know much about her.
The only thing they knew was that Marilyn was allergic to mangoes and pineapples, and more allergic to mangoes!
This was all they relied on to prove she was that girl?
Marilyn sneered inwardly.
They were too naive.
Baron was slightly stunned by Marilyn's question. Looking at the intense eyes that were staring at him, Baron was not as confident as earlier.
He had prepared all kinds of retorts to Marilyn's denial. But looking at the confidence in Marilyn's eyes, he could not say a word.
When Margie saw Marilyn like this, the anger that she had been suppressing exploded.
Margie got up from the chair and stared daggers at Marilyn, wishing to tear Marilyn to pieces.
"Marilyn, drop the act. Maybe others can't recognize you, but I can. It's ridiculous that you ask for proof. You are just an ungrateful bitch that we adopted. You are an ungrateful bitch! An ungrateful and heartless bitch!
"You cunt, listen up. If you dare to bankrupt us, I will take you down with us," Margie said angrily.
She stared into Marilyn's eyes.
However, to Margie's disappointment, Marilyn remained calm and didn't change her expression.
It was as if the person Margie was talking to had nothing to do with her.
Marilyn suddenly smiled coldly. "Madam, I'm sorry. You might want to take me down with you, I don't. My life has just begun. I'm not as desperate as you."
In fact, many things were doomed to a certain ending, and all the shit that came after was only delaying the ending.
This applied to the relationship between her and the Chambers family. Marilyn had felt guilty several times, but now, the last bit of her guilt was gone.
Hearing this, Margie looked like shit. She felt horror, and her palms were covered in sweat. A fearless Marilyn gave her fear.
"Marilyn, it seems that you came prepared!" she sneered.
Marilyn said coldly, "Mrs. Chambers, show me some respect. My surname is Chapman, not Chambers. Besides, I don't think there are any official documents that can prove we are a family."
"You little..." Margie was about to curse Marilyn when she saw Malcolm and Julian walk out.
Marilyn looked up and glanced at Malcolm indifferently.
Malcolm was looking at her too, with a tender smile on his mouth.
Seeing this, Marilyn looked away.
